    Wonderful tip, this will be the method I will use for a whimsical birdhouse diorama that needs water in a small tin washtub for the bird’s “swimming pool”. Thanks for sharing this!!!

    • @mbunds
      @mbunds 6 років тому

      @@jedrek29t The trick is going to be applying your technique to an already-formed miniature (3") oval tin washtub. I'm thinking about filling the tub most of the way with resin with the "swimming" figures in place, leaving out a precise patch in which to lay a resin feature having concentric "ripples", (and then make the seam lines disappear). A tiny rubber duck gets glued to the center of the ripples. Wish me luck, and thanks again!

  • @TiffaniLD
    @TiffaniLD 7 років тому +3

    The viscosity of that reason is so low, it's amazing. The resin I use is a little thicker and can be a pain when trying to use it in smaller molds. I never thought of using hot glue to create texture. Very nice idea.

    What type of plexiglass do you use? Where do you get it? I’m making a ocean diorama with penguins and a narwhal. I think I used plexiglass that was way too thick, it took forever for me to get it off, I also found out that plexiglass is sharp the hard way 😂 now I will have to wet sand the sides because the plexiglass and my box cutter made some scratches.

    This is actually a good method and just have to learn to make the waves a little more pronounced by low heat on hot glue gun so that the wave lines will cool down quickly that way your next wave line of glue and the one before it do not start to mix and flatten out. I am going to try it this way anyhow because I think it beats buying on the internet the different wave molds because #1 all the ones that you can order and receive quickly are small squares with the biggest about the same size as a coaster and they are more expensive #2 the ones from china are very cheap and shipping is only 2-3 dollars and the sizes vary from coaster size up to the biggest I can find is almost size of note book paper which I think would be just fine but the now the down part is it can take between
    4-8 weeks depending on where you live, how it is sent, customs, and even possibly Covid 19 back things up a bit. So I have a handful on different projects to complete over the coming months so ill use this technique meanwhile wait for the big one from china to arrive and try it out since its so cheap nothing to lose.

    Question: Have you ever tried dyeing the epoxy resin before adding the hardener? It seems like it would mix in faster, then you could add the hardener. Maybe? Just wondering. Also, have you tried any spray-on mold release sprays? Would that help peeling that plastic off there at 5 minute mark? Or is leaving that out intentional to get the water-wavy effect?
