Really good game honestly. It took what the World Heroes games before it did and improved and refined it immensely. It was the Super Turbo of the World Heroes series. I’ll always have a soft spot for WH2 because it’s the one I played all the time at a local grocery store after school as a kid back in the day but this was without a doubt the best in the series.
Also the Death Match mode. That even if it's a less serious mode, it would have enriched WHP regardless. I personally consider it a big thing, that deserved to be brought back by the big companies because it has plenty of potential, and it was something notable for an early 90's idea. I think those smaller early 90's fg's like WH and FH, although they were fated with core game design issues difficult to overcome by those companies, they managed to come up with a few surprisingly good and original ideas for the time, and for games that one would expect to be just shallow "ripoffs" at first sight. Some ideas were disregarded very unfortunately (like WH's Death Match), and others kept on and were solid contributions to the fg genre.
Though i have admittedly no idea of the development circumstances around ADK and Snk around that time, but i just think it was a mistake to ditch the WH brand and work on Ninja Masters later on, even though the game has some cool things. But imagine those resources, graphics technology and gameplay advancements all had gone to a "new gen" WH in 96 instead? I think it would have been better to stick to the established brand and work to expand it with the mid 90's technology discoveries, getting it through the same evolution as FF2 to FF3, KOF 95 to 96 and SS2 to SS3. I still believe that evolved graphics and the right gameplay ideas, with solid refinements over WHP, could have saved the WH brand from death in the mid 90's, no matter how intimidating the 2d fg scene was around 96 (Kof96, Sfa2, Aof3, XvSf, SS4, Red Earth debuting the cps3, etc). At least it could maybe have lasted for 1 more "new gen" title around 97-98. That was the period all companies were dedicated to push the greatest optimized versions of their games: Kof98, Sfa3, LB2, DS3, Mvc1, RBFF2 (and the next year, SF3.3S and Jojo hftf).
@@carlosaugusto9821 Yea i honestly would have loved if ADK could have stuck around and kept the series going. A new game with WHP's refinements plus new characters and other gameplay enhancements would have been great. I liked Ninja Masters' myself and think it's HIGHLY overlooked, but it probably would have been a better idea to stick to their established franchise and kept refining it. But yea the mid 90's was definitely a tough era for lesser known fighting games to thrive in, there was a LOT of competition in the market at the time. It would have been hard for a new World Heroes to compete against games like Alpha 2, KOF '96, SS4, X-Men vs SF, etc. I'm guessing that's why ADK sort of let the series fall by the wayside.
@@orlanzo2621 And the current state of things is: since the series stayed dead and buried for so long, it's very hard for Snk to do anything with it. Even if the devs are suddenly struck with a genius to completely reboot the series in great fashion according to the modern parameters - like the genius of the Capcom devs in SF4. Even if that happened, the series is too distant from the common imagination of the average fg consumer. @@icecoldassassin8531 I looked that up, and turns out that's really true. A clear reference. Those 90s fg's all have a good amount of anime and manga inspiration.
Characters like the German soldier cyborg who explodes, zombie football player, and also ordinary kickboxer. Like literally there's a Son Wukong analog, a gay love making Rasputin, and also plain karate girl. I love it.
It has no chance in the current market. Besides it even died early in the 90s - when the fg war was just getting hotter with SFA1, MSH, KOF95, SS3, RBFF1, etc.
@Alex Arias You mean that BR would have no chance in the current fg market? That's a little trickier matter than WH's case. First, i don't think BR was supposed to compete against the big ones in first place. It wasn't even that serious. So probably a possible new game would follow that same style of the older ones and stay around that "small fg scene" (which in fact makes the largest group of fg's). Or maybe it could really try to reach the big fg scene for once. I have doubts about that (but it's not impossible, it depends on the company working on it). Let's not mix up the context here. The thing with WH is that it was truly designed as a real competitor in the early 90s arcade scene. And early on it truly had a fair bit of popularity (taking advantage of the times when everything was so new and fascinating in fg's right after Sf2). So in that sense, i said WH would have no chance nowadays. I could bet Snk doesnt even consider touching it... just using a few chars at best (like Janne).
@@tedjomuljono3052 I'd love to think WH would have chances to being represented in KOF regularly. But then i remember even chars from Snk's own original games have a lot of trouble to getting in, since a Kof char slot became a very disputed thing. Then i remembered that even Geese showed up rarely in main Kof titles. And Rock showed up the first time in XIV - just in the 14th game. Likewise other FF, SS, AOF and even old Kof veterans have trouble to find a way in/back in a new game.
@Communism is evil they're never gonna be in KOF, it would make no sense story-wise as World Heroes is about heroes from many periods of history. That's why Samurai Shodown characters were never part of KOF, different timeline.
Snk has explored every ways to make 2D fighting games , and todays fighting games bring nothing new except higher definition graphics . This is why Im not rushing to buy latest fighting games . This game has cooler attacks finishers whatever you wanna call it and more colorful characters than mortal Kombat or Street fighter i hate to say it but not really hahaha i had so much fun playing this game at my local mall arcade as a kid and i was totally stoked when i got it at home
uff al fin alguien que lo muestra de manera clara y concisa, con madres tus videos y saludos desde México 👍
The pirate one was wild but its one of these that took the cake...I think we all know which one was the absolute wildest one of all
2:37, LMFAO, yo, what in the fuck!?
Anyway, what a Mega underrated gem of a Neo Geo franchise. Let's hope to see either a brand new game or a World Heroes team for King of Fighters, someday, to spread more love for this franchise!
Good thing i got the world heroes anthology on the ps2, love these games.
Brocken reminds me of Von Stroheim from Jojo's Bizzare Adventure part 2.
Stroheim inspired both Brocken and Guile. But it's clear the WH devs used more of that reference than Capcom.
He's more inspired by Brocken Jr. from Kinnikuman.
He was most likely inspired from stroheim lord shadowmoon
@@icecoldassassin8531 I looked that up, and turns out that's really true. A clear reference. Those 90s fg's all have a good amount of anime and manga inspiration.
@@carlosaugusto9821 I think Guile is more modeled after Polnareff, but with hints of Stroheim.
Characters like the German soldier cyborg who explodes, zombie football player, and also ordinary kickboxer. Like literally there's a Son Wukong analog, a gay love making Rasputin, and also plain karate girl. I love it.
J Max, muscle power, and axel hawk should be the new American sports team in kof
Holy shit forgot this game existed always loved their character design though
I would love to see a "History of" video covering this franchise for sure.
Me too! 😀
Rasputin is dangerous 😂
I wonder how the russians feel about him
@@greed6is6good Being the bigots they are you can imagine.
@@Diegus- couldnt have said it better brother
@@Diegus- based Russians if you ask me
@@redddrago5198 Well, sure not all Russians are like those, fortunately.
Buen video Gracias,Saludos desde Veracruz Ver
I finished this game as "Janne d'Arc", my favorite lady.
Yeah. I love her.
@@regicorp6514 So do I.
If they only bring it back.
Hanzo , Fuuma, & Mudman is in Neogeo Battle Colliseum
Jeanne D'arc is a DLC for SNK heroines
Always wanted to see a world hero’s vs street fighter game.
Me too. Imagine the fun Janne would have with Chun-Li. 😍
8:36 your taste in waifus.
7:18 yeaaaaaah
Snk has explored every ways to make 2D fighting games , and todays fighting games bring nothing new except higher definition graphics . This is why Im not rushing to buy latest fighting games . I played street fighters, tekken, mortal kombat, samurai shodown , kof, fatal fury and more, a lot in the 90's, Im in my 40s now, Im now seeking fir games I couldnt afford back in the days, or Im trying to find 90s fighting games moves we didnt know existed because they weren't mentionned in the booklet
I'm 33 and I love classic fighting games oh how I wish I could fight you in the arcade just to relive good old nostalgia having friends enjoying with pizza and drinks. Good old times.
They just don't make em' like they used to. I too am more investing in games of my youth I couldn't afford back in the day...
@@KamenRider1 it's always evolving and changing and sometimes less fun not like the old days.
@@iamthepunisher47
I'm all for innovation and going forward but it is indeed evident that it's more like they take 1 step forwards and 2 steps back in some of the decisions they make.
Sadly it's also because of the way certain (unhealthy) trends have been cemented in modern gaming.
🙏😔🥋
@@KamenRider1 Indeed True.
This game certainly had some unique characters. Don't think I've seen another fighting game series with a Mongolian or a Viking character. Rasputin has *not* aged well, though.
The liberties of the 90's games...
C'on, give the man a break. He just wants some love! 😆😆😆
Gotta love Rasputin’s little rape ultimate attack. Press his buttons fast enough and he’ll give it a double go!
Just a clarification: World Heroes was an ADK property, not SNK.
But didn't SNK bought those games afterwards?
@@Talessaga2 True, developed by ADK would had been more accurate.
@@Franken981 Wtf I always thought SNK developed these games
@@aegisreflector1239 Sadly, that is what most people think. 💔 ...but ADK deserves recognition for the games they created.
@@Janne_d_Arc yea for sure. Sorry I don't mean to sound rude but why do you have a pf pic of a girl?
2:37 ...WTF DID I JUST WATCH!?
Tossing of thee salad
A man's cheeks getting clapped
Rasputin 😂😂😂 WTF?!
Rasputin gosta do nervo 😏
Some of these look really cool
And some are really nice ideas for 1995, and coming from a smaller fg company at the time.
