    Interesting purchase. When you get a dresser, always good to check the underside & backside of each drawer since people sometimes tape money or other things there.
    They say one person's junk is another's treasure... I'd throw away a used sleeping bag unless it was a great brand like North Face. You said it was worth keeping, dry-cleanign it and putting it in a yard sale. That makes no sense to me. $10-15 cleaning fee but it's, at best , a $5 yard sale item.
    I hope you guys did really well on reselling.

    I'm three minutes in. And I'm thinking that the old Stanley plane is worth something. One turned up on a TV show here in the UK, it was a number one, first issue and it was worth thousands! Some of those old tools can be worth alot.

    Put the Indian head cufflinks on EBay, a coin collector will buy those. Price depends on the shape they are in. Nice find tho.

    I went to a recent storage unit auction here in central Texas where I live. Out of pure curiosity I asked the auctioneer, "Have storage unit prices and the number of people participating increased since fake-reality TV shows like Storage Wars?" He said he only has done a few storage auctions in the past 5 years, but knows everything has increased. Number of customers, the amount paid for units at auction, and the number of auctions occurring. He said treasure is very rare.

    I've got one of the old tread-operated singer sewing machines in the lovely wooden cabinet. I think every Australian house used to come with one! there is actually the singer catalogue from the 20's that came in one of the drawers, and there was actually an optional electric motor that you could get and it had a lead that you had to unscrew one of your lightbulbs and connect it to the bayonet fitting (obviously wall plugs hadn't been thought of yet) way cool

    Be careful! When my wife left me (great for me, not so good for her!) and refused to come get her shit, my attorney told me to rent a locker for 3 months, fill it with her shit (99% worthless junk) and send her a certified letter. I'm sure her crap went CHEAP! Hope so! I laughed my ass of for years! Still brings a smile to my face!

    Congratulations on your first unit. You should easily get back $300 or more with all those items if you are looking at doing it for resale purposes or thriftstore/garage sale type. Those old sewing machines not worth much, be sure to clean it up nice and polish the wood while making sure the machine itself works great should fetch a Jackson or two.

    the 1901 indian head cufflinks are actually pennies turned into cufflinks. idk what year they started but until 1909 the US made the penny with the indian head on the front and wheat on the back. the following year they changed it from the indian head to Abraham Lincolns head but they kept the back of the penny the wheat until 1959 (also known as a wheat cent). 1959 they changed it to the Lincoln memorial on the back

  • @cadenrymer3517

    great video man. yeah i got into storage auctions about a year prior to the shows comming out. the shows totally destroyed my business. at first it was me and maybe 3 other guys buying units and basically taking turns as to not bid each other up. once the shows came on man its was hundreds of people at auctions and took years for that to die down.
    i was actually at an auction xmas eve thinking it would be slow, over 300 people. i saw a POD unit with 3 mattresses and nothing else go for 1100. as all of us know mattresses not only have no value but are a liability as you typically have to pay to toss them as everyone is freaked out by bedbugs so there's really no second hand market for mattresss and even donation centers wont take them. only thing we could figure is people must really believe the shows and think even bad units at the last second your going to find a 10k value antique or jar of gold coins or something. i figured people must think the matreses were full of cash lol.
    i wound up kind of tweaking my strategy instead of tyring to buy overpriced units i put together a website where i posted upcomming auctions for free for buyers. i also wrote a book called how to make money with storage unit auctions to help newbie buyers know what to do when going to an auction. if you wanna check out my book send me a private mssage and i would be more than happy to send you a copy for free if you'd like to do a review or give it a read.

    You don't need to dry clean the cheaper sleeping bags. Just wash them. I use Arm and Hammer on mine and it gets very clean. Cats love those folding laundry hampers. And the sewing machine, I used to have one. Make sure you secure everything because if you move it, it may stop working.

  • @viddrome
    @viddrome 8 років тому +4

    Thanks for posting -- but what a bunch of junk. The sewing machine isn't worth much. You'd think it would be but there's really not a lot of demand for them... $50? The Playboys are worth like a dollar each unless they're in mint condition and from the 1960s or 1950s and it doesn't look like you have those. There was a shop-vacuum in there I saw -- you can probably get a few bucks for that. $50-$75? Overall a lot of crap but you'll probably break even. Your TIME is worth money too and unless you're making at least 3x the purchase price is kind of a waste of effort.

      Ezra Graber
      You should think to yourself: Can I sell this for 3x what I paid for it? Unless you can get those margins pass on it. In the long-run if you're selling stuff for 3x what you paid for it (or more) - it'll cover your costs on crap that doesn't sell. Of course, if you find a sure seller that you know 100% you can resell it I'd invest my cash in a quick profit turnaround that's less than 3x.

  • @TruAnRksT
    @TruAnRksT 9 років тому

    I had a neighbor who tried to get into this crap, he ended up in prison for trying to make a drug contact pay up by force but that's another story. One thing about these auctions everyone has to realize is that the property owners have already gone through those default units. Anything of real value has already been removed. For the shows they salt the units and get paid back by production. It is possible to make some money off what is left, the common furniture and shit if you get it cheap enough and have a distribution network, but forget about a "big score".

  • @shirleyjeanpilger5000
    @shirleyjeanpilger5000 8 років тому

    Those Indian Head Pennies are not in permanent mountings and are still in very good to good condition. Those are worth more than the price of the unit. Congratulations on your first buy. If that $2.00 bill is from the first printing, it is worth a lot more than the second printing when the post offices were date stamping them. DO NOT RESTORE ANY OF THE FURNITURE BEFORE YOU HAVE THEM APPRAISED. They are sometimes worth more not restored, people want to see the ageing process.

    Theres all kinds of ways to make a lil extra cash, nothing really good lately has fell through for me. Scrappin', ebay, craigslist, amazon, live auctions, having a ft job, etc are good ways to get paid. I work ft now & hustle part time, about a month ago a friend called and said they threw out some shelving at his store. I picked em out the dumpster and sold them as scrap cause most were damaged and made 200 bucks for 15 mins work. I would never knock a man for doing what he has to/wants to do.

    When it comes to making money you can't be lazy, unless you're highly intellegent and have a fortune to back your ideas or others to do the work (which'll cut into the bottom line as well). Usually if i get a good enough unit i just re-rent the space or move it to my house if its just fair-good profit to be made. I did the whole Craigslist car deal as well. Just the quality went down and the prices went up. Only good thing was the no wait on titles. I still do better at seized car ones.

      g bridgman Yes there are some issues that are worth something either because of a celebrity nude or interview. For example I paid about 15$ for the issue that has Walter/Wendy Carlos (guy who did famous album in 60's called "Switched on Bach" with Moog synth) discussing his sex change... very rare interview but has music/synth interest. I'm sure there are others like that... but generally yea there are an awful lot of these magazines around still so not worth that much.

I went today and didn't get anything, cheapest unit was 50 and had barley anything in it. Used car prices are outrageous here as of late. The bad economy has everybody trying to make a buck anyway they can & the cheap police/gov auctioned cars dried up for me in Feb this year. Too little profit in that wait for paperwork vs craigslist buy it today and sell it today/tomorrow.

    Value on the 1901 pennies isn't much, their not perfect condition so worth ~$8 each for badly rubbed coins. They have liberty written across the Indians headband if perfect. But as you had carpets, the dresser, and sowing machine and ray bans, overall should make a decent profit before anything else is considered.

    I used to sell sewing machines like that as boat anchor's ..they not worth much, or hauling around....maybe $50.......but, You should do ok on the playboys.. and you should also check the penny cuff links..to see if their gold..

      CHOO-CHOO WEEKES You are right about the sewing machine. We got around that much. The Dresser made us the most money. Very easy unit.

    This unit wasn't in Milford NH would it? Because I noticed a lot of stuff my dad use to own. I mean I lot of that stuff looks real familiar.

    Those Cufflings made out of what looked like Indianhead Pennys sure were pretty but I gotta wonder how much they would actuallly be worth. They seem like the type of thing that is either very collectible or they could be rather worthless nick-nakes

    I agree not much but better than nothin. Best i ever did on a unit was 10k and that was pre storage wars/auction hunters/storage hunters. Since then the shows have sucked all the profit out it with the noobs, but it's coming back around though lately. Alot of doubling and tripling as of late.
