I feel like boiling down the complex issue of gambling addiction to mere "personal responsibility" is a naive take. Here's some stuff
Predatory Ads: To suggest that individuals can simply choose not to be influenced by gambling ads is laughably simplistic. These ads are crafted by experts in psychology to be as enticing as possible, preying on vulnerabilities. It's not about making a rational choice; it's about being manipulated into making one that benefits the advertiser.
Children and Teens: The argument that it's solely on parents to shield their kids from the effects of these ads is absurd. Kids are bombarded with messages that gambling is fun and harmless, directly contradicting parents' guidance. Content creators who push this garbage are complicit in this deception.
Ethics for Sale: Suggesting that content creators are just making a living and can't be choosy about their sponsors is a cop-out. If your paycheck comes at the expense of ethics, maybe it's time to reassess your choices. Integrity matters, or at least it should.
Societal Responsibility: The "personal responsibility" mantra conveniently ignores the fact that we live in a society, not in isolation. We have a collective responsibility to protect the vulnerable among us, not exploit them for profit.
Understanding Addiction: Your take on addiction is so reductive it's almost offensive. Addiction isn't a simple matter of willpower; it's a complex interplay of many factors, including exposure to addictive behaviors. Don't reduce it to a character flaw.
In short, it's not just about individual choices; it's about how those choices are shaped by the environment, including predatory advertising.
Also I don't think they are here to stay. After enough damage is done i think they will go the same way cigarette ads did.
Solid signing. It's not flashy, but it's the kind of player the Leafs need. Decent defenseman, cost effective, signed for several more years. Basically zero risk.

Benoit reminds me of former Leafs defence man Sylvain Lefebvre. Just a really strong no nonsense defensive defence man who plays 100% every game. Good deal.

in terms of "defense", there isn't a Toronto Maple Leaf that I trust more than Simon Benoit. Always in the right spot, battles hard, rarely makes a mistake, clears the front of the net better than most in the NHL and he hits a ton... game in and game out. Great signing for the Leafs and at a very, very reasonable, team friendly cap hit. Simon Bernoit earned this contract and he deserves every penny.
I like. It shows some maturity it the team’s management that they realize they can’t let guys like Benoit walk and try to replace him with another minimum wager. By the end of this coming playoffs, Benoit will bleed blue and white. LOVE those guys.

Then they have space to cover Matthew's and Nylander's increased contracts and sign a top line d player? Can afford to resign Domi and Bertuzzi if they let Sammy and Brodie go?

Heart and soul guy. He has been great for us this season and even if he falls off a bit I still want him in the lineup come playoffs. He hits, blocks shots, protects the net, and he’ll stick up for his teammates.

Benoit brings alot of what Luke Schenn did last year. Thundering punishment. But what I like best about him is the calmness in his game. He's definately a "walk softly but carry a big stick" kind of guy for sho Steve.

Yes, I like him. This is the kind of spirit that has been lacking at times. Everyone will see the sparks flying around him, and more importantly see the fear in the opposing team that he will create.
Had the opposite feeling when I thought I read the Leafs singed Jeff Finger signed a 4 year deal for 3.5 million.

In the playoffs you play the most physical defence you can look at the 2 teams we might face 1st round.
The most important fact about this signing is that it’s only $1.35m.
A “no risk only upside deal”.
This is the number (and lower) allows the leafs to bury it in the AHL at any time without retaining a cap hit.
This holds true for Reavo, McCann and now Benoit.
Although no one wants to see this happen of course -in year 3… (if and when) the leafs bolster their Defense, Benoit may be pushed down the depth chart with no retained cap hit.

Great news, this guy had a good run with ducks and was picked to provide depth to our d-corp. He's very young at 25 and should get even better as defenseman only reach their maturity at 27, 28...a great deal.
For a d-man that's just 25 years old and is reliable as a 4-6 option it's a solid contract. Leafs need young bodies in their blue line as they are getting pretty old in the position.

Shawinigan is where Simon played and I chuckle to myself as our old PM back in the day Jean Chretien was a rough character ( which was great 😊) remember the “ Shawinigan necktie” when the then PM took on a heckler/ maybe an attacker, Old Jean kicked ass! The RCMP had to rescue that dude from Chretien. 😂 so Simon comes from a tough town and glad to have ya. Looking forward to him pulverizing Marchand or Sam Bennett and Matt T etc etc etc!

LOVE Benoit! Super happy he is a leaf. He is consistent and tough. We don't need offensive D men, we need proper protect the net, protect your teammates D and we got that in Benoit. Cannot believe he was taken out of the line-up and I hope it doesn't happen again in the next 3 years.
