    Great video! One thing I wanted to touch up on is the reaction you asked students to complete on their own time at 48:10. When you complete the reaction, you actually get a CH3 group on one end and OEt on the other. This is different from the molecule that was presented on the board which had two OEt groups. Let me know if I am missing something please, but I looked through several other sources and I think this might have been an oversight in the video.

    so basically for Aldol condensation, the alpha-carbon on the aldehyde (that becomes the reactive enolate) loses TWO of its alpha-hydorogens once you get to the final product. because it started with a minimum of 2 a-hydrogens. then it loses 1 in the first step upon tautomerization. and then it loses another upon dehydration elimination to make the unsaturated double bond.
