I lost my beloved a couple mocnths and I heard this beautiful poem/song. Now when it's time to present her Christmon ornament I'll recite these wonderful words as a tribute to my beloved wife of 46 years that God handpicked just for me. Thank you Jesus for her.
When I was a small child my mother used to hum this song to me when I was going to sleep. It was such a comfort to hear my mother's voice and everytime I hear this song-I cry because it brings back so many memories.
Everyday when I hear this song, I always thank those whom I've met in life and share happy moments here on earth before they passed on. Maybe it a friend or close relative, we will surely meet on the other side
Yes, someday soon, I'll join my brother, 3 sisters and my mom and dad at the family circle at the throne. Thank you so much George Younce for this beautiful rendition of a great hymn. God bless all who listen and hear the words of this blessed song.
I've loved this song since I was a little child. One of the first songs I remember, along with many others from those old old singer, and at the age of almost 73 yrs of age, I still love this song, even more...I sing this in memory of my precious husband that is living with Jesus.
I used to tell my hubby that he must play this at my funeral...it ended up that i played it at his funeral 4 months ago...someday down that lonely road ..you'll hear me call your name babe...walk slowly 💔💔
Should you go first, and I'll remain?.. This line hits me hard everytime I'm tuning into this song😢 Beyond the sunset, with our dear ones! Oh! I'm longing for that moment 😢😢
I'm 71 and in the last year had 7 heart attacks and so many other problems...I brought my own casket and did many modications to it,,,a solar panel will go into my tombstone with wires going down to my casket to run the surround sound stereo system and lights ..this is one song that will be playing amoung others,,,,i know it won't last forever but if it goes for a year i'll be happy
We sing this all the time and just cry because we have lost our son 10mths ago ...we know he is sleeping until Jesus comes ...this will also be sad if o e of us should part first the one who will stay behind will really be lonely missing all the walks and joy and sadness we shared together...but until then we appreciate the time we have together .we look forward being with our heavenly Father one day where there will be no more sorrow ..mo more tears .Amen
Since the passing of my eternal companion almost one year ago, this song gives me the comfort and strength to go on till the Lord sees fit to call me home and I join her beyond the sunset.
My grandmother found this sitting on a sidetable by my grandfather's chair. It brought tears to my eyes, even back then. I watched as my grandmother got up from his chair and walked into the closet where his clothes hung there. As she closed the door so I couldn't see, I heard her weep. I couldn't bear her pain so I walked out the door to give her her time with him, standing in the closet so she could smell him and be with him once more. This sounds like a song but I could never write it. This song George does so well, still brings it all back to me. Thank you for this posting and the memories it brings.
I am 52 years old and still remember this being played at my Grandmothers funeral when I was 6. I so look forward to the day when I will see my Mom, Dad and so many others in my family who have gone on. Things on this side were never really right in my family. One day they will be.
I'm 69 years and this is the first time I've heard this song. I grew up listening to Gospel music, and this song made me cry. My parents have gone home to be with the Lord, and I still have my husband (and best friend) is still with me. I suspect he will go before me, because he's 16 years older than me. Beyond the sunset, oh blissful morning When with our savior, heaven is begun Earth's toiling ended, oh glorious dawning Beyond the sunset when day is done Should you go first and I remain to walk the road alone I'll live in memory's garden dear with happy days we've known In spring I'll wait for roses red, when fades the lilacs bloom And in early fall when brown leaves fall, I'll catch a glimpse of you Should you go first and I remain, to finish with the scroll No lessening shadows shall ever creep in to make this life seem droll We've known so much of happiness, we've had our cup of joy But memory is one gift of God that death cannot destroy Should you go first and I remain, for battles to be fought Each thing you've touched along the way, will be a hallowed spot I'll hear your voice I'll see your smile though blindly I may grope The memory of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope Should you go first and I remain, one thing I'll have you do Walk slowly down that long long path, for soon I'll follow you I want to know each step you take that I may walk the same For someday down that lonely road, you'll hear me call your name Beyond the sunset Oh, glad reunion With our dear loved ones who've gone before In that fair homeland, we'll know no parting Beyond the sunset, forever more
I first heard this song on a 78 record in the mid-1950s before I had reached the age of ten. I used to listen to these old songs with my parents next to our old "victrola," and I remember distinctly one day hearing these words with my Mom right next to me. Nobody on the planet ever loved me more than my mother, and I reciprocated the very same way. When I heard the line, "If you go first, - and I remain...." I began to cry. When I heard the "speaking part" about the "...long, long path...," I started understanding what this song was saying. I turned to Mom with the tears flowing from my eyes, and said..."I don't want YOU to go first, Mommy!" Ultimately she did, and I played this song at her funeral service. There was not a dry eye in the church. I miss you, Mom.
I lost my youngest son at age 3 and i can't wait to see him again as yes, the Lord has kept me here to show others of Gods gracious love he has for us all.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (January 19), I attended the funeral at a local Pentecostal Holiness Church for a man whose son & I graduated high school together. Sadly, his son died in May 1987. This was sung as the Eulogy Hymn. I miss you, Earl, and we are all going to miss you, Mr. John.
2 years ago, my beloved brother went to heaven. i keep missing him everyday, i still cry too much when missing him. This song, always brings me back on track whenever i feel sad for he aint here no more. My faith in christ is the only way to get to where he is at this moment. Thanks for this song.
I had about forgotten this song. I'm glad that it is here on UA-cam. I love George Younce. I love all of the Homecoming folks. George reminded me of my great grandpa and kinda holds a special spot.
Each time the memories of Gideon(my brother) linger, i always come here to listen to this. Well, thanks George Younce, for this encouragement. Rest well.
My great grandmother died almost ten years ago and it took me several years to be able to think about her without getting teared up. We were very close and I cannot wait to see her again. This song reminds me so much of her and gets me choked up every time. She lived alone and kept a good sized garden of butter beans going in her back yard right up until a few months before she passed at the age of 93. God blessed her with such a great life here on Earth and she has been deeply missed by her entire family. What a day of rejoicing it will be when I go to be with the Lord and when I see her again. Have faith in the Lord and God bless y'all!
The time is coming when we will know and understand, forgive, love, , and know only that Jesus loves us all and hurts at the sadness we feel. Some day we will have no division and misunderstandings.. Thank you God,.
I've listened to and loved this song for years but it is more meaningful than ever as so many of my family have gone, yet I remained. The sun is setting for me.
The words always bring so much memories..2010 was a turning point in my life..I played the song at all times...indeed beyond the sunset, blissful morning, with our loved ones we will weep no more gives me of a life life in heaven and with mum and dad in that fair home land
I had this as one of the songs at my husband's funeral 12 years ago. Our shared tombstone has the words Beyond the Sunset, on it, a sun with a man and woman in front of it.
It was January 2, 2016 when my Eileen went to be with The Lord and I could never have imagined how I would miss her. Beyond the Sunset and Look for me are songs I have played dozens of times as I long for her touch and a kiss just one more time. Songs by The Cathedrals, Danny Funderburk, and Danny Gaither do make the loss somewhat easier. Thank you Lord for these beautiful words in gospel music!
I a;m the mother of Norman Crenshaw...I love this song. My husband and I have been married for sixty-four years..it would be right for either of our funerals, according to which of us go first, for we have walked together o many years..our memories are so great....they will go beyond the sunset for sure....Joan Butler Crenshaw.
Love that song. I had a wonderful marriage, she was born on Sept 22nd 1942. She died on Sept 29, 2021 our 59th Anniversary would have been on Sept 30 th. I know I will see her again on Heaven.❤❤❤❤
I listened to this song when i was a child way back in the 50's Its kinda strange how songs you listened to as a child come back to you in your golden years.
One of my Mom’s favorite songs. She is now home with my Dad and her Lord. Can’t wait to join them all one day! What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see!
Crying about my mom who died over 10 years ago, at 11 in the morning on a Saturday. "In that fair homeland/We'll know no parting, Beyond the sunset/Forever more" Memory truly is a gift of God that death cannot destroy.
Coming back to this song as my grandmother lays dying of multiple organ failure. She wasn't a perfect person, but she had her good days and I know she loved me. Nana, "Should you go first and I remain, for battles to be fought. Each thing you've touched along the way, will be a hallowed spot."
"Should you go first and I remain one thing I'll have you do; Walk slowly down that long long path for soon I'll follow you In that fair homeland we'll know no parting beyond the sunset for evermore" Thank you Lord for this song.
The song beyond the sunset, oh what a song, how lonely life can be without your loved one, still life is lonely if you can't find that one, oh how I pray to God that I don't grow old without my soul made
I have listen to this song for 60 years. This is the best version. Not another Gospel song grabs my heart more than this one. Thank you for sharing. Crying helps me sleep so much better
While hearing and watching this video, I remember my father who went home to his Creator last 2008, It is true that memories death cannot destroy. Love to remember his love and cares for us, especially when we are in times of difficulties. Thank you Lord for giving us such a father like him, PRAISE GOD.
My dad died just 4 years ago today. Beyond the sunset was a song I grew up with, as he loved it. One thing he always planned was that whichever went first, mom or him, he wanted this poem to be read. So I read it at his funeral. Was hard, but I made it through. Beautiful. Now just a couple months ago my mom went to meet him. They're walking together now beyond that sunset in the presence of Jesus. (Kathy Myers)
Growing up I never much liked the Gaithers but boy did my Grandmother, she listened to them to the point I was annoyed. Now that she’s gone.. They’re all I really have left of her. I love you granny, my second mother. I look forward to seeing you again one day.
This song is again proving that song written as result of felloshiping with God will resonate in dear saints and bring them to God too. I testify. I was crying like many of You. I am sorry for news about his wife but after this song slso happy. Happy tha some day after sunset, all we will meet at Jesus' feet. May the Lord Jesus aco mplish what He begun in us!
My favorite hymn... It contains one of my best and most coveted for Bible promise. I feel lifted every time I listen to this sweet hymn... They hope is the anchor of my soul... It goes beyond the veil
There are a few tears today but a lot of joy as well. 13 years ago today my sweet Dan went home to be with our Lord. This song holds such precious memories...especially the poem "Should You Go First and I Remain" that is recited. I know my Dan is waiting and I'll be there some day too never to be apart again.....and all the tears will be wiped away.
Ivan Parker wrote Beyond the Sunset in August of 1972 when Fr Richelieu (our parish priest in Manistee MI) passed away. It was originally written in Italian and translated into English by my mother. The poem If You Go First Before I Do was written by Ivan Parker in July of that year when I went through diamond dust withdrawals and nearly died.

I think of my parents. When my mother died in 2001 nine years before my Dad, He talked about this song. He said he though about him and Mother. The song brings tears to my eyes. They are both gone now. I know that they are once again reunited.

The dead in christ shall rise first ❤
And now George's beloved wife has joined him in Heaven. They now are together to walk.
No one is in heaven at this moment. When Christ comes, then will they be in heaven together
They'll be reconciled by the Lord on that Glorious morning. What a great morning that'll be.

Should you go first and I remain to walk the road alone
I'll live in memory's garden dear with happy days we've known
In spring I'll wait for roses red, when fades the lilacs bloom
And in early fall when brown leaves fall, I'll catch a glimpse of you
Should you go first and I remain, to finish with the scroll
No lessening shadows shall ever creep in to make this life seem droll
We've known so much of happiness, we've had our cup of joy
But memory is one gift of God that death cannot destroy
Should you go first and I remain, for battles to be fought
Each thing you've touched along the way, will be a hallowed spot

The memory of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope

Beyond the sunset,
O blissful morning,
When with our Saviour
Heav'n is begun.
Earth's toiling ended,
O glorious dawning;
Beyond the sunset
When day is done.
2. Beyond the sunset,
No clouds will gather,
No storms will threaten,
No fears annoy;
O day of gladness,
O day unending,
Beyond the sunset,
Eternal Joy.
3. Beyond the sunset,
A hand will guide me
To God, the Father,
Whom I adore;
His glorious presence,
His words of welcome,
Will be my portion
On that fair shore.
4. Beyond the sunset,
O glad reunion,
With our dear loved ones
Who've gone before;
In that fair homeland
We'll know no parting,
Beyond the sunset
For evermore!

Love to remember his love and cares for us, especially when we are in times of difficulties. Thank you Lord for giving us such a father like him, PRAISE GOD.
Just like I did, but hope one day i will see Dad again,
What a blessing this hymn is. Hard to think of George being an alcoholic. Happy he got saved. Blessing to so many
Happy to be saved myself, too.
(Kathy Myers)
my dad died in 1998 I grew up on this song also!!!

blessed message amen ,what a promise that we will see our loved ones again
Growing up I never much liked the Gaithers but boy did my Grandmother, she listened to them to the point I was annoyed.
Now that she’s gone.. They’re all I really have left of her.
I love you granny, my second mother. I look forward to seeing you again one day.
This is so beautiful
This song is again proving that song written as result of felloshiping with God will resonate in dear saints and bring them to God too. I testify. I was crying like many of You. I am sorry for news about his wife but after this song slso happy. Happy tha some day after sunset, all we will meet at Jesus' feet. May the Lord Jesus aco mplish what He begun in us!
My favorite hymn... It contains one of my best and most coveted for Bible promise. I feel lifted every time I listen to this sweet hymn... They hope is the anchor of my soul... It goes beyond the veil
My husband passed away in 2022. I'm ready to meet him.
There are a few tears today but a lot of joy as well. 13 years ago today
my sweet Dan went home to be with our Lord. This song holds such
precious memories...especially the poem "Should You Go First and I
Remain" that is recited. I know my Dan is waiting and I'll be there some
day too never to be apart again.....and all the tears will be wiped away.

Thank you sweet LORD & SAVIOUR for the promise of seeing our loved ones in heaven. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!
Listening to watching just after hearing Ernie give the news that Clara passed away. I’m sure George has been waiting patiently for her.
BEAUTIFUL!
I think of my parents. When my mother died in 2001 nine years before my Dad, He talked about this song. He said he though about him and Mother. The song brings tears to my eyes. They are both gone now. I know that they are once again reunited.
