For a sport to be a sport, it must attract the masses (casual fans). Hardcore fans are too far and few between to carry a sport. But Track and Field shoots itself in the foot when the athletes don’t show up to meets…of course hardcore fans will deal with that, but casual fans will never truly adopt to the sport.

Also the track & field owner's have much to do with the attitude & set up of how the track & field athletes deal with the selfish sport in the first place, fans on the outside would be amazed at the political politicking that goes on behind close doors🚪 👈, for instance, when they rigged 3 of the fastest women in the 👉 🌏 last season by putting them in the same heat, & but for the Grace of God "Sha-Sha" almost didn't make the final, & when she did, they slotted her in lane 9 which basically even though in the race, psychologically out of the race (👉& they had to know that🤷), no runner has ever won that caliber of a world class race from that vantage point, but good for "Sha- Sha" they forgot to tell her that, & as a result she won anyway🤣🤷; The same can be said for her & "Gabby's" 2 💯 stuck out in lanes 8 & 9 for two of the fastest women in the 👉 🌏 & again they pull that crap, nothing but politicking gangster type evil 👉 😈 👉🤷, just saying!!!Amen🙏!!!

The sport is suffering from a marketing issue. They need the same as inside NBA old school guys debating and arguing, they need to bring the sport into city's grand prix style just like F1. Racing in the city's themselves, running down the London Mall strip outside Buckingham Palace, pole vault in time square, discus at the coliseum, we need rivalries and pre race press tours head to head interviews like boxings face off interviews. There's no hype. No showbiz. Nobody knows about the drama. You can't build an audience unless people can see it and get it. Very few people actually get how fast these guys run or how far long jumpers actually jump. Bring the sport to the people revolutionize the presentation.

the longer any sports stays away from how NBA and NFL are run then the sport will be fine. nobody other than the USA needs an add break after every minute of play. thats why Real Football and Rugby , cricket are all much bigger than the shitty NFL and NBA.

If they would have more track and field meets here in the US more people I think will follow it and if they have it televise more. The US Olympic Trails trials start June 15th, but every track and field competion is in another country. I love track and field I just wish they had it more here in the US.

@anthonyanderson9303 I agree, but here is the problem 😕 the owners put a high premium on the record by placing that much extra 👉💰 in front of the tag 😳 👌🏻, & since the bulk of top of the line runners 🏃‍♂️ don't have big time contracts from advertising (Only a handful 👌🏻) that means all the other track runners are only👉 fillers👈, are just filling the other lanes,(Those who make finals are hardly even known & have no advertising contracts, so that means they are struggling just to stay in the game unless still being supported by their school which most or not at that time, & can hardly pay rent, it's real folks 👌🏻) & the owners only pay tiny bits of 🤑 chump change sort of speaking, if the sport of track in & of itself paid big bucks to each runner who was expected to run in meets across the nation & they did reasonably👌🏻, then it wouldn't be so very hard for runners to stay involved with the sport, but just because one wins a gold medal that's still no guarantee that you will be able to pick up good advertising to carry you, as a matter of fact mist of our great sprinter's of the past died broke even the one's who won gold medals, & are even forgot about👌🏻( unless its something more that the system can use to their benefit down the road like a "Sha-Sha" for instance, who just won the hundred meters for instance, & they no she's gay, & don't mind telling the 👉 🌎 👌🏻, you see 👀 their is some value in that senerio for the system if one can grasp✊️the systems big picture for what they want the race to be heavily influenced by😘 to our kids👌🏻& even if one is able to get a contract they can pull it right from under you just as fast as you get one 👌🏻; all this means is that the track & field organization who owns & runs everythang makes the rules & controls the👉🤑👈 money, & the runners are only "Pons" on the Chess Board 👌🏻, most runners 🏃‍♂️ are hurting badly in the economic👉🌎 world period, only the chosen few have that clout. Well thank money hungry Flotrack who makes it impossible to watch races. I like the Atlanta meets and even trials of miles because they live stream it for free. I get what Peacock is doing because there was a time where we couldn't even watch the diamond league meets regularly but the issue is too many pros are dodging the smoke. All of this pulling out of races because they "felt soreness" or because they "are focusing on the trials" Like it's all nonsense that really ruins the sport. How can we built viewership if every time a meet is billed to have certain matchups...and the athletes don't show up. That makes fans not want to watch a meet cause they don't know if a runner is going to actually show up. I get money is a big thing to attract pros to certain meets but it would be nice to have little mini exhibitions for fun. Key example we had the Worlds relays which was amazing in its first installments...and then it got watered down. I think Bolt doing the Nitro meets in Oceania with the mixed 4x1 and stuff was cool. The Adidas City games are cool, like we need to bring track to the people in order for it to be popular.

That's kind of the problem I have with Sydney as great as she is. She doesn't show up for the regular meets. I get her style of training works for her, but back in the day you'd see the big names all the time matching up with each other, not just at the Olympics or Worlds. Times have changed for sure.

I agree with MJ to a small degree. Racing the time is racing the athlete of the past who we all debate to see who would have won. I would have loved to see Noah line up against a prime MJ; but in order to get back to racing, I think TF has to extend beyond just professional track. Races should be speed vs speed regardless of sport or professional level. It’s hard to create a the build up of the story if we keep seeing the same competitors racing over and over again. MJ vs Donovan B had a great build up. Sydney stepping into the 200 had a great build up and anticipation. Even the idea of the football player racing the pro tracksters was a great build up.

I agree somewhat, but the competition mindset is broader. Now weve got access to view almost any race in history up on to real time. Thats why the competition is now based on time and history.

I don’t know if this comment is going to be red, but if we’re being honest about a sport myself have ran. Track and field isn’t publicized like in days of old, whether it be college track or professional Track & field. Some of these events you gotta search and search to really find and they don’t broadcast them like they once did.
So to fix that, find a network and keep it on the network each year specially college track! You won’t find out that they had a meet weather professional or college until it’s past and the only reason I know about Texas relays is because I’m from Texas and have ran in that track meet so I know when to show up same thing with the Michael Johnson classic I know when to show up. Oh, and the pin relays. But other than that if you’re not from that location, how do you know when these events occur on TV?

Athletes, organizers, agents etc. need to figure out how to cultivate rivalries. Why do we watch team sports? The rivalries between two teams. The same goes for tennis. Even golf to a certain extend. We watch for the rivalry, or the dominance (think Tiger Woods). Yes, times will matter, but if we can cultivate a competition element again. Get a few athletes who are competing against each other, use the Noah and Seville type of situation. Simbine vs Omanyala. Hype the rivalry as if its a boxing match for goodness sake. Track needs to learn from other sports how to do this.

Na don't agree. Even if i watch highlights online im still there to watch the race and the competition that goes with it. T&F especially short distance has the advantage that its only a few seconds a couple minutes long. So watching it as a highlight has no impact on the experience especially if you missed a live race. Its not like basketball or football were a 8 minute compression in highlights totally strips away the experience.

Imagine is Steph Curry had to break a scoring record EVERY game. Or if Steph had to literally compare himself against Jordan every game (that happens for fun, but nobody takes it that serious).
Why would we care about racing wins and losses? Ranking points that accumulate through a season (like Tennis). Or sports gambling (people care about who wins the kentucky dirby, not if a record is set or not).

T + F is unique because it's binary. Black and white. We can measure a current athlete against any historic athletes using times. There's no yardstick to measure current Dallas Cowboys vs 20yr ago. But in track we can.
Too many people have run 10.10 in history for me to be interested in "competition". If they're running 9.8, 9.7, 9.6, sure, then competition is exciting. Even without a WR. But I can watch guys run 10.10 anywhere. Not interesting. They have to be at an all-time elite level.

Michael is probably the only man to double in the 200 and the 400 at the same Olympics. And he was on track to win the 400 at Barcelona as well. Held the 400 record for decades and the same with the 200m. Choked in what? MJ is a natural 400 meter runner who moonlights at the 200.
