I've seen this danced by various versions of the Ramberts, but never better than this performance. The lead male seems to get the tone exactly right, and the long-haired female dancer is just totally gorgeous.
I love the whole of this piece, but this section is, not surprisingly, the best - I suppose as it ties together all the previous sections and references them all again. I especially love the 'pleased to meet you' hand-wavy bowing movement, especially the way the guy in the purple shirt does it.
so would i be right in thinking this is the performance i saw n loved at saddler's wells as a student in london approx 25 yrs (yikes! :O ) ago??? pretty sure it must be - thanks so much for posting this vid!!!
Afraid not. While it is certainly not Rambert, It is probably either Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve with whom it was created in 1991, or possibly Nederlands Dans Theatre who own the video rights to it. Rambert didn't perform it till 1994. The performance you saw would have been Rambert performing it as part of a Triple Bill - usually with 'Swan Song' and 'Ghost Dances', or possibly for the period you saw it, 'Four Scenes' (commissioned for the re-opening of Saddlers Wells).

this, strangely reminded me of West Side Story.... i love how all the dancers are coming to together at this point. cos we've never had everyone one the stage a one time, before this.
