The character, Stella, is a true hero. The person who hunts-- gets into the head of a monster-- never wins. That's what makes what those people so truly phenomenal. They sacrifice themselves, their mental and sometimes physical well-being, for society. Stella walked courageously into darkness and got a monster excised from society. She's a real hero.
When I first watched this show I’ll admit I didn’t really enjoy the last season - I couldn’t get my head around Paul’s amnesia, and I hated the ending. I think it was mainly because I was devastated for Stella, that she didn’t win and Paul in his own twisted way did. But I’ve recently watched it again and knowing the ending made me appreciate season 3 alot more. This time around I honestly wasn’t sure about whether Paul faked his amnesia, he probably did but it’s great that they just left it out there, open to audience interpretation. But I do still feel for Stella, but I guess I’ve accepted it now. A really good show.
@exa protagonist is definitely a bit of a stretch to be honest, but fair enough, each to their own. He is likable and an immersive complex character, I get that, but I certainly don’t think he deserved any kind of victory.
The person who hunts-- gets into the head of a monster-- never wins. That's what makes what those people do truly phenomenal. They sacrifice themselves, their mental and sometimes physical well-being, for society.
he did fake amnesia, and his suicide indeed was a last FU to the world and a victory over Stella. as he planned out everything else, he also planned out the last act. he just didn't care, not even about the one thing he claimed to live for - his daughter. one thing he claimed he would always choose to live for. another layer of his mask of any kind of humanity was flushed down the toilet with the last act. Stella was left alone, with nothing to fight against, just a bottle of wine and feminist tripe... and a realization that there is no love in her life, which is why she put the sticker on the fridge that Paul wrote about love and death. to keep reminding her that she is becoming more like him, in her core. selfish, lonely, cold.
His mother commited suicide too. Leaving his daughter and son behind, hope the cycle does not repeat itself and they are treated right. My question is whether he actually cared for his children or was it all a lie.
I binge watched this again and Jamie is incredibly primal disturbing and alluring I just hope this level of acting has some after movie debriefing . Gillian excellent depth of insight and emotional depth as well ! Amazing
Utterly compelling and gripping indeed, especially in the bath! Yet Stella still manages to come back, even after such a violent display, ultimately to find Paul has continued cheating the system as she says to his own death - the easy way out?

I'm still so conflicted when it comes to my opinion of how she really felt about him. There seemed to be a strong indication of grief when he died and I know she previously explained to him that she didn't want him to escape justice but it seemed to be more than that. However, I also don't want to undermine her character or intelligence by saying she actually developed romantic feelings for a sadistic serial killer.
it's complex. mentally, she knew he was a monster that deserved zero mercy and a prolonged life of suffering in prison. emotionally, she feared him. instinctively, she had both maternal and sexual feelings for him.
The grief she felt at the end was purely for Spector's victims and their families. They were denied justice by his cowardice and suicide and she felt responsible for the fact he could no longer be tried in court. Gibson recognised Spector for the monster he was, and he knew it. Any suggestion that Gibson harboured maternal or sexual feelings for him is total garbage.

Stella Gibson‘s character is incredible. They never quite explain what happened between her and her father, but it was implied that her and her father did have sexual encounters, and she missed him and loved him in spite of it all… she has such incredible empathy for injured women, women in danger, and children. We see her tear up multiple times during the series. But when it comes to Paul Spector, that sympathy is just not there… perhaps because she suffered sexual abuse as a minor also, but still made something of herself and didn’t let it destroy her the way Paul let it destroy him. She didn’t live her life in anger and revenge the way Paul lived his... that being said, I could still have sympathy for Paul Spector, a.k.a. Peter Baldwin as a child for the abuse he suffered at the hands of the clergy… the fact that he became friends with David and protected David by not naming him as his successor, the fact that he valued children, and could love children and protect children, even going as far as to write an apology letter to one of the victim’s father at the loss of the pregnancy… speaking as a Christian, there was always hope for Paul Spector, but he didn’t believe in God, except thinking of himself as a god that had the right to end lives as he saw fit…
This is one of the best TV series I've ever seen. I was recovering from cancer treatment and i binge watched The Fall, The Bodyguard, Line of Duty and Love/Hate, and all four are absolutely superb.
I'd say ''searing chemistry'' (in the description) is inappropriate here. It's not that type of relationship or tension portrayed, it's rather a cat-and-mouse game (where they both are the cat and the mouse simultaneously), the chase, battle of wills and intellects. It's simply good writing and acting.
