I’m genuinely so excited for the Kneeboard in general to show a true weight and balance rather than just the weight displayed in the Rearm/Refuel menu so we can see what is costing us weight and by how much.
Note on the APKWS ranges you were getting: Testing in-game I noticed that the guidance is quite aggressive, and will often put the rocket flying on a low altitude path, almost like a beam rider, slowing down quite a bit. You can eke out quite a lot of distance by not just lofting your launch, but also starting to lase a few seconds after firing, once the rocket has reached it's natural apex. Lasing all the way from launch to impact I was barely getting 3.3 km on my test area, which has me a bit higher than the target, lasing a few seconds after launch I could easily hit stuff 6 km away without additional lofting.
Looking forward to flying the warrior. a nice functional scout rotorcraft with some teeth :) Good on polychop. if you say you give the flight model a passing grade - they really must have stepped up their game after the Gazelle.
I believe I have read the price would be around USD 15K (not sure if it is just for the kit, or whole rocket). So I guess when collateral damage is a factor, APKWS would be handy (and cheaper than Hellfire). Thanks for awesome videos. To see how much you are enjoying the KW, makes me looking forward to it even more.
15k-20k is the price of the guidence kit, with the hydra FFAR at 2,5k-3k (price ranges per contract). This may seem expensive but this means the entire weapon cost about as much as a JDAM or LGB guidence kit (which both are about 25k). Now all of the weapons are quite cheap... yes cheap, the public numbers for the Javelin is about 78k per missile, and the hellfire is at 100k to 150k depending on source. and the Maverick model G is supposedly sitting at 269k per missile (D & H models are about 100k per missile). And why do I know all this... I did some research to try and budget a DCS campaign I played with some mates, I still have the 'reciept from that research', I must be on some list after that... Did you know Lockheed Martin has a public ethics program which are willing to discus weapon pricing if you call?
Love the warrior, and thanks to your video I know how to adjust laser codes for the APKWS! Couldn't do it in the mission editor, but also didn't know how in cockpit ;-)
It's amazing how your muscle memory and brain memory gets tuned to the current module your flying. Since this was released, I have not flown a single other chopper. Just for kicks I loaded up the Apache and Holy Schnikies (Tommy Boy voice) I was like a pig on roller skates. I could not do shit smoothly and all my binds were forgotten. I must have went to the controls page a dozen times to get things done. And the Apache has such a different flight model. Not nearly as quick and nimble as the Kiowa. Felt like I was flying a cargo plane after flying an F-16. That's why you should try to use the same bindings across all platforms (as much as possible). Keeps things simple.
I worked the REAL K-dub for 20 plus years and saw tons of advancements and changes, most for the better. These rockets would have been a nice addition had they come along sooner.
This is basically a mini Apache, I dont think I expected these to be this potent, look out Hind, this might be the new ground attack king bar a A10C or F15E or what ever! xD 7 km's or more is kinda wild! Not to mention, you carry 14 of them and not 4 or 8... not quite the same bang but still very cool!
@@kurothas2181 what he really means is that the devs don't feel like it because they are too busy taking their time with all the other things it needs. Took them how long to implement the FCR? The main feature of the AH-64D. The answer is 2 years after release in EA, and over 5 at least since the earliest they likely started development on the module. Too busy making new pilot models/animations.
Will you make a video on how to decipher what Steven Hawkins is saying to us? Also, basics of what are flares and chaff are, how to use them, and which type of threat would one be used over the other? Please, thanks.
12:38 In addition to the atmospheric attenuation, IRL you've got al the other laser problems to deal with: underspill, overspill, podium effect, entrapment, boresight error, beam divergence, spot jitter, backscatter...
Mover pronounced them as “ah-puh-quiz” at some point on his show, no idea if that’s common or if he just made it up himself but it’s definitely easier than reading off the letters every time for me lol
If you really want an "easier way to say that", the logical pronunciation would be app-cows. It may not sound badass like "hellfire" or "attack-ems", but it can be pronounced if you want. You could also go with the AGR-20 designation for them and call them "aggros"
Wasn't the APKWS supposed to be cheap hellfire vs just better rockets. $20k per APKWS, vs 120k per Hellfire and a Hellfire is kinda overkill vs technicals or even most armored vehicles that aren't a MTB.
I have to admit, Casmo. Before you started doing your videos on this I was VERY sceptical about this module and had no plans to buy it. In fact I had no interest in the aircraft whatsoever. After the Gaz I just don't trust Polychop but they appear to have done a decent job on the Warrior. I'll not be buying it day 1 but providing things are still rock solid after a few patches I may consider picking it up.
me and my buddies just say ''appquiz'' it sounds fuckin stupid but its better then saying A P K W S everytime haha side note i hope ED or Polychop give us the capability to use zone A and zone B to putt different rockets in the pod, so we could carry 3 apkws and 4 regular HE rockets for example.
It's annoying how every system and weapon system and whatnot nowadays is just given an alphabet soup acronym for a name. I miss actual names. Maverick, Stinger, Sidewinder, and even Hellfire (though what's interesting is on one of my old books, Hellfire technically is a backronym, but then again so is TOW).
Do Army pilots use the same terminology as Navy and Airforce? Bogey, Rifle, Shack, Bingo, Spike, Nails, etc.? Or do they have their own protocols? I have never heard you say shack when shooting and hitting a target. You say "target destroyed". Is that "muscle memory" from your flying days or just something you picked up while in DCS? Not important, the thought just occurred to me.

Certainly an option as well.
@@CasmoTV Thank you for making these videos btw, been loving the Kiowa and they've been almost my only source of info so far. =)
Love the videos, love the A/C, Love the mission it does. Thanks for everything you do.
Thanks for all these tutorials Casmo, looking forward to the practical 😮
Nice form in the kneeboard. Helps set the tone for us casuals, especially when it's easy to use.

More... work Air Force Munintions systems and used a live fire exercise of APKWS rockets as EPR bullets for some troops, each is around $25k
@@DoradoFever That's very pricey for an oldschool rocket with a laser seeker and some fins. But hey, inflation gets all of us!

I am so stoked for this module!
This one is worth putting the love into. Lots of bugs so far but nothing that can't be easily fixed. It's been a lovely aircraft to fly so far.

The MMS looks dope and i cant wait to use it. Feels a little different to what else we have in dcs, atleast on video
nice informative video! can't wait to try it for myself!

A US made vicker missile. I am glad the we can carry this one. I can't wait to start recon and buddy lasing.
Now that is really friggin cool that they including APKWS for the Kiowa. Maybe in a year or two they'll add it to the Apache.
ED (or should i say Wags) stated already, that this would not be accurate for the Apache we have in DCS ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Apkws really needs a nickname like the hellfire has.
Surprised at the range, that's pretty cool. Look forward to trying to shoot those over a hill for another observer.

This seems like it would be so fun as a scout paired with an AH-64 or any other jet with a buddy laz.

How did you fire from the copilot seat?
Can you try these on some Boghammars? 🤞
Cant change the code in the rocket in the air its done by the ground crew . the kneeboard thing is simulating the ground crew

Why don't we have apkws in the apache 😬😬😬
Why do you WANT it?
Only the E model carries it, we have the D model in DCS.
Same reason, why we don't have L2MUM and Link16... wasn't part of the AH-64 version we have modeled in DCS.🤫

can you be on the ground anywhere to set laser codes?
yes but that’s not how it works Irl. Not sure if that will change and I think APKWS belongs to ED.
When’s this thing being released?
They said in two weeks, less than two weeks ago.
Alphabet rockets.
