Democracy comes in two forms: direct democracy, where laws pass based on popular vote alone, and indirect/representative democracy, where people elect people to vote on those issues. A republic is just another word for a representative democracy. So, yes, the US is technically a democracy.

Okay this was made 4 days ago and the election currently legitimately came down to Pensilvania. Wtf is going on here?
Counting.
The republican-controlled legislature in Pennsylvania refused to change state law to allow county election officials to start processing mail-in ballots until 7 a.m. on Election Day. This left mountains of absentee ballots to process and count on top of the inperson ballots received the day of. With nearly 2.6 million mail-in ballots received anyone with any sense should have know it would Penn a bit longer to produce a tally and in the end it would come down to them.
They've been saying that for weeks. It's not that hard to predict. And for what it's worth, the election didn't come down to Pennsylvania. Biden looks likely to win Nevada and Arizona, and maybe Georgia too. If that happens, he doesn't even need Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania just happened to be the state that gave him the 270th vote. But if they had taken a day longer, and Arizona and Nevada finished reporting first, it would have been one of them. Or if they went earlier, as Michigan and Wisconsin did, it would have been another state putting him over 270.
Nothing is going on here, except that election forecasters are good at their jobs.
