Enjoyed this video, short and simple. extremely proud of the work you do, the more I see your videos and how tough of a journey this is just gives me the drive to keep grinding until I become a business analyst.
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing. I am finding these working from home vlogs somewhat inspiring lol. We work in different sectors but I can share many familiarities here. Great vlog overall. You have a new subie now :) from Tay 🇯🇲🇬🇧💃
Thank you so much Tay. It really warms my heart to hear that. I checked out your channel and subbed too. It looks really good. When I hit 100 subbies my channel really kind of took off from there.
Hello Ven, great video. I’m currently studying civil engineering but realised I have a huge interest in working with data, spreadsheets, graphs, statistics etc. I’m potentially thinking of doing a post graduate MSc in Statistics. One of the possible career paths I’m looking into is acturial science. Just wondering if you have any advice for me, in terms of whether or not it’s possible for me to transition from engineering to the actuary sector, do I need a strong financial background etc. Would really appreciate it!
Hi @koch9666. Thank you for watching my video and leaving a comment. I hope your undergrad is going well or it went well and you are graduating. I think it is possible for you to transition into the actuarial sector as I know of someone who studied Psychology and completed their actuarial exams in less than 5 years. It would be a good idea to reach out to your local actuarial society or the actuarial society you intend to write your professional exams with and just make sure that they have no specific requirement for an actuarial degree.
Hi Jia. That's a tough question. I think comparing yourself to some of the things you will be required to do as an actuary might help. The questions I would ask are: 1. Do you like working with spreadsheets? 2. Do you like explaining complicated things in a way that is easy to understand? 3. Do you want a well paying job that can get a bit crazy during busy season but is a regular 9 to 5 for give or take 7 months in a year? 4. Do you like life-long learning because you will need to keep up to date with the developments in your actuarial area of expertise and you will need to log 15 hours of Continuous Professional Development each year? 5. Do you value being a professional and complying with several requirements set by your actuarial body including acting with integrity? 6. Are you willing to dedicate a few years in addition to your actuarial degree to write exams as you work? 7. Are you good in math or willing to improve your math? 8. Are you willing to be thorough with your work and check it after you do it and have others check it too? Those are the major ones I could think of off the top of my head. You don't have to answer yes to all of them but if all of them are nos then it might not be a good fit. I tried to give an answer based on the practical things you would do during your working life and less on the difficulty of the exams. I could do some research and make this a proper video. Thanks for the great idea.
Hi @tshegomoguni6715, thank you for watching my content. It was a reasonable amount that was consistent with students earning their first year of experience and my job title at the time was "Actuarial Intern". It was not enough at the time for me to live on my own and pay all my bills. At the end of the first year it went up 5.76 times which was a significant pay rise. This was in Zimbabwe though. In South Africa recent Actuarial graduates are unlikely to earn a salary that is too far below those with one year of experience.
Hi David. Unfortunately I don't post that often on my instagram. Initially I had planned to post similar content there as well but it was too much admin.

You know it's real when she pulls out the HP-12C😂😂
Haha, I know right. Old habits die hard. I finally weaned myself off of it and embraced excel for the September sitting.

I just want to practice as an Actuary without going through the exams.
Hi Thabo. Given the number of times I have failed, I agree with you there.
How I know I'm suitable to become an actuary?
