Saitama said he wanted to defeat all villians with one punch after killing the crab guy , he made a wish . Saitama essentially made a wish and it was granted and as such one punch will always contain enough power to kill any enemy. His wish was granted.
That is the true mystery who granted him the wish, maybe later on in the series we will find out. Maybe in quest to have a real fight he may meet the god that granted him his power and for the first time have a real fight, where he goes all out.

SPOILER How the power is granted is kind of shown in the web comic in the fight with Homeless Emperor and evolution of Garou, which also kind of shows that Saitama isn't a god, but his powers were probably granted by one.

This is the real reason Saitama gained unbeatable power. There are three requirements to achieving God level power like Saitama. You have to be a human who hasn’t been artificially altered or enhanced in any way. You need to do years of physical training specifically tailored to the individual. And finally you need to be repeatedly brought to the brink of death fighting individuals that you barely manage to defeat. You know the process is done when you have a minor physical change. In Saitama’s case losing his hair. The workout he did was good enough for him because he was just an average person.
I believe Genos said that Saitama must've gotten his powers from his intense dedication and desire to become powerful is what gave him his power, similarly to how supervillians randomly gain their abilities due to their obsessions. The difference between him and the other hero's is his dedication.

So im finally going to post my theory. Ive had it for awhile, and based on how the world of One Punch Man universe works, it appears obsession transforms ones self into something similar. Just as in the first episode, the lobster man ate too many lobsters and eventually became a lobster man. Later, a car man said he was too obsessed with cars and eventually became a car man. Now Saitama, obsessed with being a hero for fun, becomes something similar.
This theory has been around a while, the character of Garou in the manga pretty much confirms it. He serves as a foil to Saitama, by wishing to become a monster that can defeat heroes so much that he becomes one. Garou's limiter starts to break, allowing him to survive Saitama's "serious" moves, but due to his conflicted mental state he cannot maintain the process and loses power. Saitama tells Garou his "compromised monster hobby" could never beat his "serious hero hobby". The clues are all there that everybody's power in this Universe is tied to their willpower. Saitama's willpower and focus was so massive and his goal so far out of his reach physically, that he broke his "limiter" trying to attain it. Saitama's training would have been easy for an athlete, but for him it was so difficult his hair literally fell out. This is probably an allegory for the creator of One Punch Man himself, who wasn't a very good artist but wanted to be one so badly he succeeded.
I'm going to release a theory out there as well just because I have not seen anyone talking about it and if it was just a anime fluke then that's fine let me know. What if the God theory and the limiter break are both true. After he defeats the lobster monster there is a light that signs in his eye. You cant argue that it's his limiter breaking because he wants to become a hero because breaking your limiter gives you streangth and his training was hard for him. So here is where my theory gets out there the God residing in saitama cant present his power at all because of the weak state of saitamas post work out body however during his training his drive drove his limiter to break increasing his streath exponentially until finally the gods power residing in him could take for. This making him the strongest limit broke caracter in the entire story. (Also the light shines in his eye again when he fights the subterrainian king in his dreams after the power up)

if you read the original manga, there is a "GOD" entity that grants people power, if you see Homeless Emperor back story he met "GOD" and it gave Homeless Emperor his powers. also speculating that this "GOD" is also creating all these monster and creatures in the world since its been around for a long time, some have theorize that "GOD" gave Saitama unlimited physical power unknowingly. this would have been great if you mention it in the video but hey, no one really reads the Original Webcomic.

I was just about to comment this. It explains a lot of things as to how he got his powers too. Most monsters that were humans were doing things they wanted, usually with bad/evil intentions. And most people (also in our world) tend to do bad things easier than good things. It's easier to strive to be evil than to be a true hero.

This is the real reason Saitama gained unbeatable power. There are three requirements to achieving God level power like Saitama. You have to be a human who hasn’t been artificially altered or enhanced in any way. You need to do years of physical training specifically tailored to the individual. And finally you need to be repeatedly brought to the brink of death fighting individuals that you barely manage to defeat. You know the process is done when you have a minor physical change. In Saitama’s case losing his hair. The workout he did was good enough for him because he was just an average person.

So im finally going to post my theory. Ive had it for awhile, and based on how the world of One Punch Man universe works, it appears obsession transforms ones self into something similar. Just as in the first episode, the lobster man ate too many lobsters and eventually became a lobster man. Later, a car man said he was too obsessed with cars and eventually became a car man. Now Saitama, obsessed with being a hero for fun, becomes something similar.
This theory has been around a while, the character of Garou in the manga pretty much confirms it. He serves as a foil to Saitama, by wishing to become a monster that can defeat heroes so much that he becomes one. Garou's limiter starts to break, allowing him to survive Saitama's "serious" moves, but due to his conflicted mental state he cannot maintain the process and loses power. Saitama tells Garou his "compromised monster hobby" could never beat his "serious hero hobby". The clues are all there that everybody's power in this Universe is tied to their willpower. Saitama's willpower and focus was so massive and his goal so far out of his reach physically, that he broke his "limiter" trying to attain it. Saitama's training would have been easy for an athlete, but for him it was so difficult his hair literally fell out. This is probably an allegory for the creator of One Punch Man himself, who wasn't a very good artist but wanted to be one so badly he succeeded.
I'm going to release a theory out there as well just because I have not seen anyone talking about it and if it was just a anime fluke then that's fine let me know. What if the God theory and the limiter break are both true. After he defeats the lobster monster there is a light that signs in his eye. You cant argue that it's his limiter breaking because he wants to become a hero because breaking your limiter gives you streangth and his training was hard for him. So here is where my theory gets out there the God residing in saitama cant present his power at all because of the weak state of saitamas post work out body however during his training his drive drove his limiter to break increasing his streath exponentially until finally the gods power residing in him could take for. This making him the strongest limit broke caracter in the entire story. (Also the light shines in his eye again when he fights the subterrainian king in his dreams after the power up)

I was just about to comment this. It explains a lot of things as to how he got his powers too. Most monsters that were humans were doing things they wanted, usually with bad/evil intentions. And most people (also in our world) tend to do bad things easier than good things. It's easier to strive to be evil than to be a true hero.

What if in a season 2 episode they make saitama be mind control by something and that makes him a GOD level threat. At first all Class B would be "huh its the lowest of B rank,i got this" then they all get beat up badly but then all the S ranks group up and acknowledge Saitama is a somekind of monster cause hes too strong. But he was just faking it to see if someone was worthy. Im not a manga person so i dont know if this has happend.
Well, you got some parts right -- a Demon-Level monster whoops on the S-Class heroes, and some of them eventually acknowledge Saitama. Amai Mask even develops a man-crush on Saitama. Probably won't see this till the 3rd season, though (if there is one).
