I mean not really. You always have the option to go out in nature to find food, water, and shelter if you choose. So you can not work and live and survive. It's always been work or starve, but the funny thing is people starting complaining after it got massively easier to live. The fact is you have some much better than you would have if you lived in the wild because of in large part the profit motive and voluntary exchange. I'm not saying corporations are scummy and completely awful, but it was always work or strave, but now working can be so profitable for orginary people that they are getting extremly fat due to massively excesses of what they need to live. Even poor people are dying due to obesity issues in the modern era thanks to the economy and the innovation it faciliatates. It's always gonna be work or stave, but now a man who makes $50,000 a year can save 70% of it for 35 years and ration out the rest of the money such that he can live for 61 more years without ever having to work again. Assuming it's mostly all in precious metals and other stable investments it will keep most if not alll of it's value. So say from age 20-55 a man's average salary is 50k over that time period. That means he now has $1,225,000 in savings. Break that into $20,000 chunks and you get over 61 years. So until he's 116. Or in $25,000 chunks it's 49 years or until he's 104 if he lives that long. Or in $35,000 chunks it would be 35 years or until he's 90 again assuming he even lives that long. But yes corporations and government are doing evil things in colaboration with each other. That doesn't mean earning a living is dirty phase because it was always work or starve just the type of work available as an option has massively increased both in quantity and quality. Before hunting, gallering, etc. where the only valid ways to survive. Now you can be artist and enterain to earn thinks of value for your labor and buy things created in other markets. In the wild humans live 20 years often less, but in societies despite how currupt they are in the 20th century many have survived for 60-100 years. At least compared to how often that happened in less advanced societies throughout history. Not all of these people are rich either many of them are screwed over by the elites like everyone else. Society allows your lifespan to go from 20(maybe) to 60-80. Yes it's corrupt and awful, and I'm against that. But you always had to "earn a living" it's just now their are the alternative to living in society where your exploited if only living maybe 20 years in nature. Earn it by managing to survive in the past, and now earn it by providing value to society or at least value to someone. Not saying it's good just saying they didn't create that it was always earning a living.
