- *For the hardcore Sentai and MMPR fans that have been emailing me for months about uploading more footage: Here ya go! Another loooong and quiet low res video....
This is from the original videos I was given daily. My orders were to take this footage and the script and create action scenes that would lead up to the point where the Power Rangers were ready to use their Zords.
All of this came from the original Japanese show footage. There really wasn't anything new created called "Zyu 2" for this. We would simply use what we could to save money and time.
I would shoot the outdoor acting scenes and Putty fights with the actors and stunt team. If there were some monster shots from Japan I could use, then we'd edit that in. It would end with me making our monster of the episode grow large and then it would be all Japan footage for the Zord battle (except for the interior shots of the Zords). That was the pattern. Five days a week from sun up till sun down. ;)
You can compare the original MMPR shows with this and see the parts that were not used for one reason or another - usually having to do with the script, or censors, or running time.
It was a fun challenge to make this series and I learned a lot about being efficient and utilizing every moment of the day on set. I'm glad I got to do it. Enjoy the original Japanese Sentai footage.
Remember "Zyu2" is just a name a fan came up with when he heard about the footage. We never had any such name. It was all part of the MMPR package. It wasn't anything separate from MMPR. It's part of the Saban/Toei deal to make a show for Western kids as cheaply as possible and sell as many toys and products as possible.
Toei's job was to provide monsters and zords for the show that could be made into toys and products. They had an assembly line type set-up in Japan for this. It was ultra cheap compared to Hollywood. Using this kept the costs way down and made the show very profitable. It allowed us to shoot multiple shows per week. No one else could do that.
The reason for extra Zyu footage is because there were already product deals and toys in place using those suits as characters. We couldn't suddenly change over to all Dairanger. That would make those toys sit on the shelf while parents waited for the "new & current" versions.
When I came on board I began shooting longer fights with the actors and adding more and more action to the Zyu footage. Eventually I just shot everything and Toei began sending Dairanger monster footage.
I got all of the previous monster suits to play with. It worked well. During that time I shot 60% of every episode made (according to our editor) and MMPR generated 1 billion dollars in only 12 months. This at a time when the entire film industry made 5 billion. We had a formula down by this time. Others tried to imitate Saban's success, but failed. They discovered that there was a lot more to it than simply buying some Japanese footage.
In the 'behind-the-scenes of Sentai' that I posted you can see White Ranger was only 4 feet tall. He was a jumpy little kid in Dairanger. So we only got to use close-ups and him jumping onto his Zord from Dai (which is the shot of him riding on top of the bus). All of the White Ranger fights and acting footage I just shot myself.
I recall how funny it was to some of the Japanese stuntmen when I had the tallest guy in a White Ranger suit talking to a Zyu Ranger. It was like the Twilight Zone to them. Sort of like when Stan Lee made a deal with Toei for them to use the SPIDERMAN character. I watched the Japanese version of Spiderman and went, "Whoa... what the heck is this? Is that supposed to be Peter Parker?" LOL
All of the questions I've been getting about the show since my first Zyu2 upload I'll try to answer when I can. You guys have really brought back a lot of memories for me. I'm very proud of the work done on the show both in Japan and the USA. I think it turned out pretty good. ;) Thanks so much to all of you for watching and making the series a hit.
I wonder how a Super Sentai fan would react to watching Power Rangers for the first time, and the first episode they see being a post White Light episode, and also a Super Sentai fan who has never seen Power Rangers seeing Return of the Green Ranger part 3 would probably give an intriguing reaction.

Do you think it would've been possible to use the 5 main Dairanger suits as a power up for the core MMPR team just like the Gokaiger suits were in Super Megaforce? Thus not completely abandoning the Zyuranger suits.
GenX6887 I kind of wish that they did use the Dairanger suits for season 2 as how it would have turned out is intriguing. How it could start is that the power rangers in the Zyuranger suits could lose a fight and Zordon summons them to the command centre and explains that their powers are too inferior to match the power of Lord Zedds monsters and that they needed new powers. As for Tommy, they could either say that they are still currently working on Tommys white ranger powers and temporarily keep his green Zyuranger costume, or use up most/all the Zyu2 footage before introducing Dairanger suits as Pirantishead or Turbanshell were a couple of good places to change the zords. Anyway, what's done is done.

Toei is the worst studio ever...
The cockpit footage originally came from episodes of Zyuranger. Then producer Jonathan Tzachor did what the Japanese did; he shot our cockpit footage on our stage as stock footage that could be edited in different ways for different episodes and dialogue.
This is one of the economical methods of shooting both in Japan and USA. You could only do this by having 'helmet heads' talking and posing. (In Japan and USA the Rangers are always played by the stunt team).
Other directors have asked me why we preferred not to have the face masks off while the Rangers were in the cockpits where we could have shown facial acting expressions. Had we done that it would add a full day of shooting on the cockpit stage with actors. This is why cockpit footage is shot all at once at the start of a season as reusable stock footage. This would take only a day to do and we'd have it ready to go for each episode.
The producer on the MMPR Movie learned the hard way, the actors didn't know all of the Ranger poses and what we called "Kabuki" suit actions. But that's another story. For the series in Japan and USA we always shot as much stock footage of things as we could for later use as needed.
The giant battles are basically the same choreography and camera moves repeated over and over with different monster suits for the most part. The other Zord footage (running/flying, etc.) is mostly the same stock footage repeated over and over. It's hot, hard work - but doesn't require a lot of thought.
It's only the outdoor Putty and Monster fights both in Japan and USA with the actors and Rangers that required creativity and daily shooting. The economical assembly line method of making a children's tv series was started in Japan and we used their method because it worked for the kind of show we were making.
We'd never shoot BUFFY or some other series in this manner. It only works for this type of show - which producers used to call a "forgiving type of show." I mean, both in Japan and USA we'd have a monster hit someone and they would land in a totally different location and continue fighting. ;)
Here's a question I've had about the cockpits. What made you guys decide to create your own cockpit for the Thunderzords instead of just reusing/duplicating Dairanger's cockpit to match the Tigerzord's cockpit? I can say the only downside I saw with this is that there is never any cockpit footage of the Mega Tigerzord where it should show the White Ranger with the other 4 in the cockpit together. Season 3 on the other hand with the Ninja/Shogun zords actually had really good spacious cockpits used which I loved.
***** I don't understand, so why you never asked japan side to shoot dairanger megazord scenes with those monsers what's difference? you don't wanted tell them you using both sentai versions into one?
***** An interesting idea would be when you were doing the Alien Rangers saga during Season 3. The Alien Rangers never had any cockpit footage, but there was cockpit footage of them in Kakuranger, but that was only for the Ninjazord, which they never piloted in Power Rangers, but that footage could have been used for the Shogun Zords.
Was there also any particular reason why some monsters in Kakuranger weren't used? Did you just find some of them to be inappropriate while others were simply not used due to time? I'm sure you could have used some monsters from Kakuranger before Season 3 ended. I am surprised you still have the monster suits from Kakuranger to still use in crowd shots such as during the final episode of In Space. Speaking of which, there were also some monsters from Ohranger, Carranger, and Megaranger that went unused in their respective adaptations. Was there simply not enough time and/or money to include them?
Another thing to point out is that you still could have used the Carranger and Megaranger monsters and mechas for 2 more seasons of Zeo since the Ohrangers and Carrangers used the same color combination and Megaranger didn't even start with color-coded mechs, they just piloted one large robot. I know the Mega Voyager comes later which uses a black mech. It would be interesting to see the Turbo Rangers in the Zeo suits.
So much you could have done, and yet didn't.
It would have been a lot more money. That's the only reason. As explained above, the production team had a method of working which was very economical.
Can you upload the Zyu2 footage of Saliguana and Pumpkin Rapper now please? I really want to see it.

Man, watching these zord fight shots make me wish the rangers hadn't upgraded to the Thunderzords before finishing up the Zyu2 footage. It looks SO much better seeing Megazord fighting the monsters and actually seeing them in the same shot. Zyu2 mixed with Dairanger footage just looks unconvincing. I mean if they wanted to have the Thunderzords facing Zyu2 monsters, why couldn't MMPR have filmed their own zord fight footage so they could be in the same shot? They started doing that later in Season 2 and then in Season 3.
3 year old comment but still a good comment deserves a response. Personally they should have left the Zyu2 stuff alone as you said and then switched to the Dairanger suits
@@ch2010ize I don't think Dairanger suits would work because kids loved dinosaurs in the 90s compared to Chinese Martial Arts shows that you've seen in Jackie Chan Adventures and Mulan.

After getting to see what we missed from the Oysterizer episode, especially the Black Ranger scanning vision, that's boosted my interest in seeing what we missed from the Zyu2 fights used for season 1, although I have been interested for a while about things like the possibility of footage of the pink and yellow mutant rangers exploding.
Reminds me of how Green2 from Bioman is using the scope, especially every Metal Heroes' Space Sheriffs. This was cut because Zack wasn't a techy guy like Billy did.

I wish they had kept the Megazord and Dragonzord for the fight against Pirantishead. Seeing how the monster took control of Drsgonzord again could have tied into the story of how Tommy's powers were weakening and thus it was easy for Pirantishead to take control of his zord.

I greatly appreciate you giving us the insight of what went into editing the episodes, and I hope you find the remaining footage for the Zyu 2 monsters that we never got see fight with the first Megazord. I find it insane that Saban was fine with splicing in Dairenou. This footage with Daiyujin was far better.
Agreed. When it was the Turbanshell fight, I think that most would agree that fight would be better with the Dinozords as I always knew that "water" wasn't really water.
Mr. Pruitt, we all have busy lives and there are more important things than deleted footage of a 25 year old show meant for children, but it's time we get more Zyu2 blocks! There are still answers needed!
I particularly want to see "Dramole", aka Green Rangers return episode. I have to know if my theory that Dragonzord created the Red Ray's of light. I believe this because this was an actual Power Dragonzord had in the video games.

I noticed some of Dramoles zord fight looks darker than other bits. I think some of it might have been edited by Saban to be darker. Whereas in the beginning it looks a lot darker when the zords look up around them.
Anyway... I do plan on making a website in the New Year. Maybe I can create a blog or article section and put out some info in it that people might not have heard before. I could maybe share some of my dailies and out takes to show how I made a scene or perhaps share the "Helmet/Rat suit test" footage from the movie with you that explains how and why I designed the Ooze fighters. No one has ever seen that before. I'm just happy to know that I was involved in creating two TV series that became cult classics and still has fans to this day. Thanks to all of you :)
***** Funny you should say that. I used to make stock footage of the Rangers & Putties flipping over camera and various shots of Putties vanishing just to keep for stock footage to be used over and over. Looking at this stuff again is bringing back memories .... Did you know that SLIPPERY SHARK could fly? Well... when I first got that suit I made the shark fly through the air and land similar to the way I had White Ranger fly through the forest. We cut it out though as the wires could be seen and there was no time to paint them out. Wonder if I can find that footage next time I'm at the warehouse? Wow, you guys are bringing it all back to me now :)

The Pirantishead fight made the video, no doubt.
So then there were three: Saliguana, Guitardo, and Pumpkin Rapper. I'm also curious about Dramole. Him and Saliguana, I suspect we missed out on a lot from them. Every other monster so far has been divided into two ground fights, but those two only had one shown. And both episodes were very story heavy, with the monsters there to keep the formula intact. But then again, in Dramole's case, how would they have decided what to edit or what would they have to edit? At least with Saliguana, we know there was a putty fight that was duplicated using Z-Putties.

Actual Zyu2 footage begins at 5.25, still it's interesting to see how the existing Sentai footage (in this instance from Dairanger) was edited. Jeff once again you did Toei justice today. :) Hopefully in roughly 3-4 more videos, we should see all of the 25 Zyu2 monsters that were made for Power Rangers. But that's your decision though if you wish to post those. Like the last video, these battle sequences are excellent. Thanks again for posting this. :)
I am very happy that Jeff has been sharing his videos with us but I wonder how well he's informed on Zyuranger stuff since I don't believe this isn't the first time he's claimed that Zyu2 doesn't exist yet a lot of the monsters that appeared in this video never existed in Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, Ohranger, Carranger, Megaranger, Gingaman or any of the following Sentai seasons.

I think that Zyu2 could be just a name for the footage that Power Ranger/Super Sentai fans gave the footage. I wonder if Jeff's trying to say that they didn't make a second season of Zyuranger. I've always thought that there was some new footage similar to Zyuranger fight scenes as Saban used up all the footage from Zyuranger and needed more fight scenes to make more Power Ranger episodes.
Al W yea I do believe you're right with Zyu2 being a name that fans just gave the footage but I'm sure fans would've explained things to him in regards to the footage. I hadn't always thought there was new Zyuranger-like stuff due to Saban running out of footage since I still didn't know about Sentai until sometime after Galaxy but not exactly sure when I found out about Sentai at all however once I was told about it I was sure about it existing and I was even more sure about it once I got to watch Zyuranger myself and at "Doomsday, Part 2" they pretty much wound up using all of the Dora Monsters (the name for the Zyuranger Monsters) except for 2, those being Octoplant and Goatan.
MattLarkinMHC Zyu2 is indeed a fan term used for the new exclusive footage for Power Rangers that Toei produced following Zyuranger's conclusion in Japan. It wasn't intended to be part of a second season, each Sentai series only has 1 season that lasts a year, before moving onto another. Saban needed new footage at the time as they had ran out of usable Zyuranger footage and the show was becoming immensely popular with kids. So Saban forwarded the money and Toei produced new battle footage featuring 25 new monsters. Some of them got used in early Season 2 and because of that or other reasons, this battles had to be edited, due to changes done to the show at the time, so some of Toei's hard work was never seen uncut, until now.
David315842 I'm well aware of Zyu2 being a fan term and I'm well aware that it was never intended to be for a second season of Zyuranger. The interesting thing is we only had 24 Zyu2 monsters so was Pythor one of them or did they only make 24 and he was just a toy exclusive?
Here is a theory. Is it just me, or did it seem like "Sword of Power" thing was originally a quest that Tommy had to go through? Robogoat really comes off as some kind of guardian that you have to go through in order to get the sword. It would also explain why he could make the sword turn into a stick etc. The movements he made before the growing scene also implies that he made himself grow, rather than being turned giant by Rita's staff.
Here is what I am guessing had happened for the remaining 3 monsters.
Pumpkin Rapper - Considering Green Ranger was in this episode, I suspect Dragonzord was there as well. Anytime the Green Ranger appears in the Zyu2 footage, the Dragonzord would turn out to be there as well. For such fights as Invenusable Flytrap and Bloom of Doom, where the zord fights go completely unused and with Robogoat and Pirantishead, where Dragonzord was edited out, but not the entire zord fight, Green Ranger was in those episodes and I can tell why the Dragonzord footage couldn't be used.
Saliguana - I'm pretty sure neither Green Ranger or Dragonzord appear here. Based on how Red Dragon Thunderzord went up against Saliguana first, does this mean that the Tyranosarus Zord originally faced Saliguana first, or was that something you just decided to do anyway and that only Megazord fought Saliguana. It will be interesting to see Saliguana's real tongue on the Megazord since in the episode, a black tongue from a different monster from Dairanger was used for when it goes on Thunder Megazord. You're lucky there even was a monster with that instance.
Guitardo - Based on how the other monsters all had zord fights, I would suspect Guitardo had one too. Also against Megazord and Dragonzord. Some interesting thoughts I had would be for Guitardo to use his music powers to make both Megazord and Dragonzord float in the air, and then Dragonzord uses its finger blasters to fire and Guitardo, allowed it and Megazord to be freed from the air. I also expect Guitardo is defeated by Megazord's sword, but there could be a possibility that Ultrazord was used too. Considering Guitardo is the last monster that would possibly have a zord fight against Dragonzord in Battle Mode, I doubt this is the case since DZBM was never used for any of the other monsters and I think its unlikely that they'd use DZBM only once.
I also have an interesting question, are there some monsters that exist in footage that we fans never saw at all, like footage of a monster you just never used? If there are unseen monsters, that would be interesting to see.
Upload the zyu2 footage of Guitardo, Pumpkin Rapper, and Saliguana now please? I really want to see it.
Guitardo probably didn’t have a zord fight since he was defeated on the ground in a unique way
@@ch2010ize He most likely did had a megazord fight. Just because he was destroyed by a different method doesn’t mean he couldn’t be revived.
Hey Jeff, I don't know when you'll have another chance to show us anymore of this uncut footage, but there are some other interesting things I'd like to see from you in the future.
The first thing would be the new zord formation footage that you got along with this footage. Zord formation footage that was filmed specifically for Power Rangers. I'm not talking about the zord footage from Zyuranger, I'm talking about the newer footage.
And second, did you say that all the Thunder Megazord cockpit footage was all filmed in one day? I think I'd like to see the entire original footage of the Thunder Megazord cockpit to see what all of it is like from beginning to end.
I know this is footage that was seen in the show, but it would be interesting to see if even this footage has anything that goes unused.

A couple of questions that I have with this one
1. How come the 4 rangers fell in the crevasse and then appeared to come out of Robogoat's chest?
2. If the Green Ranger wasn't in the Stag Beetle Footage, where does the beetle get it's power and where did that explosion come from after it tries to blast the rangers with it.
3. How come you're showing us Oyster when we've already seen the original zord fight for it. I haven't seen any unused footage there.
4. Where all the Dinozords suppose to be under Piratishead's control?
5. If they blocked of Pirantishead's ability to control the Dinozords, how come he still has control of the Dragonzord during the zord battle.
6. What happened to Pirantishead's defeat footage?
So Stag Beetle's explosion when he dies was seen without the megazord being shown in the scene.SO WHY THE HECK DID SABAN EDIT IT OUT?!!!

Obviously the most interesting remaining footages are Pumpkin Rapper, Saliguana and Guitardo, but I'm certain there are also missing footages for Slippery Shark and Dramole, and also a correct order of footages for Mantis.
I'm also interested in the number each monster shows before the fights are shown, because it might mean there was an order in which each monster was supposed to appear.

I know it really gets confusing. My tape of "Peckster" is called "Woodpecker from Galaxy Rangers." Though on the crew we never went by the names the writers made up anyway. The kind of names we used for these suits I couldn't say in public ;) Sometimes info on the Internet is far from the truth. Someone told me that Wiki once said Jonathan Tzachor began producing MMPR in 1998 half way through Turbo or something. Not even close to true. Jonathan produced for Saban before there ever was a Power Rangers. He started the show from the early pilots and from ep. 1 ran the whole thing. He was one of the guys who helped come up with the name (they wanted something that sounded like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Another fan had a website that derided Saban for "ruining" the Octophantom by adding dark paint under its eyes and destroying the pristine look of the original Japanese version. But that dark eye paint WAS the Japanese footage. The other footage was shot by us much later after the paint had worn down. Like I said, it sure is confusing sometimes....

antonispao27 Could you guys do me a favor then? List whatever monsters that are missing from the two Zyu2 vids I've put up and I'll write it down. That way when I run across that particular tape (even if they typed a name that's a bit different) I'll know to grab it. Currently my storage warehouse is full of boxes of tapes from various shows through the years and it's stacked to the ceiling in no particular order. Yep. It's a mess in there and hard to get to anything specific :/ Still... give me a list and I'll try....

By the way Jeff, you're such an awesome person for uploading original stock footage of 9 zyu2 monsters and can't thank you enough, especially as Power Rangers/Super Sentai fans had fears of the footage being destroyed or lost forever. Hopefully that shouldn't be true about the other 16 that haven't been uploaded........yet (that is if you find the footage and upload it).

I can tell that the footage of Pipebrain aka Baron String from Dairanger is taken from episodes 1 & 2 of Dairanger I’m glad I got see the original version of that footage in the Dairanger dvd set
Yeah I wonder why Toei called Dairanger "Star Rangers" for international distribution purposes, not to be confused with the Filipino-English dub of Gorenger.
Star Rangers actually makes me think of Dairanger, so I don't think it's the same thing as Galaxy/Dino Rangers, as these labels say, that name is so Zyuranger. But thank you so much for showing this stuff! :) You know, this footage actually reminds me of Power Rangers more than Zyuranger because the way the characters behave (especially with the Blue Ranger's inventions) here clearly shows how this was shot with the Power Rangers in mind.
Yes, but the MMPR characteristics are more than enough for this to make me think about MMPR a lot more than Zyuranger.
In Indonesia, Dairanger was called Star Ranger, meaning that the dubbers used Toei International names for distribution.

I see in addition to the Zyu 2 footage for the season 1/2 monsters we also get some raw footage from the 1st 2 episodes of Dairanger as well too.

Many thanks for finding more footage. Only Saliguana, Guitardo and Pumpkin rapper for what I would like to see the most, but some footage cut from season 1 episodes would still be interesting to see.
No doubt I definitely want to see those 3 as well but I definitely want to see the Crayfish stuff as well so that we might get an answer in regards to the Pink and Yellow Mutant Rangers not being there for the Giant battle.

I do wonder if there was footage of the pink and yellow mutant rangers exploding. Other things from season 1 zyu2 fights that would be interesting to see are Dramole with the idea of Burai coming back to life, Slippery Shark as I do wonder why Saban reused the zord summoning for Grumble Bee (or Grumble Bee as the footage could have been from the Slippery Shark episode). After watching this video, I'm feeling confident that Jeff has all 25 Zyu2 episodes, it's probably just trying to find the rest of them.
Al W I do wonder that myself in regards to those 2 Mutant Rangers even having an explosion or not. I'm also confident that he should have all of the Zyu2 clips as well but exactly how many there truly was we really have no clue although we do know there were at least 24 Zyu2 Monsters since we did see that many. I hope he can track down all of them.

I have counted 25 Zyu2 monsters. People have been asking Jeff about Pythor, but he thinks that it was more likely a toy exclusive as TOEI would have sent Saban a costume of the monster and Jeff can't recall a Pythor costume. I find Jeffs response easy to believe as there was the Z on Pythors shield and I can't see why it would stand for Zyuranger considering Pythor is a villain, I think the Z is more likely to stand for Lord Zedd, but Lord Zedd didn't even exist in Super Sentai
Al W very true with the Z thing but like you said Zedd didn't even exist in Sentai and I doubt Toei would have known anything about his creation at the time since at the time Power Rangers was still planning on using Rita as the main villain.

It would seam there is one scene missing from the very end of the video. Pirantishead being blown up. Other then that, I love seeing these original Zyu2 zord fights as they were intended. I have a funny feeling Pumpkin rapper is coming soon (Well I hope). ALSO, I have always felt that during the ground fight with Dramole, when 'Burai' returns there was a fight with Golems cut from the footage when aired on US TV... Only time will tell.
I sure hope we do get to see Pumpkin Rapper on Jeffs next video of zyu2. I sure do wish that they used the zord fight footage in the Trick or Treat episode. Who doesn't? I'm also hoping to see Guitardo in Jeff's next zyu2 video so that we can have confirmation of a zord fight. I'd say that Saliguana and the other two I just named are the most wanted to be seen.

It looks like they might have thought of putting in some scenes of Dairanger where the Rangers are shown, just not clearly (similar to how in Masked Rider, you could occasionally see ZO, J, or regular Black in place of Black RX).

I have another question, one I don't think I've seen asked. As has been established, the "Zyu2" stuff was intended to be used to pad out season 1. With that in mind, how was it decided on what stuff to save for season 2? Because outside of Oysterizer, all the monsters you've shown us so far were second season, meaning we missed out on the zord fights and in some cases, putty fights, as they were reshot using the Zedd putties.
But at the same time, I can see how some worked well with the season 2 story, especially Pirantishead(an excuse to change the zords), Robogoat(limited Green Ranger/Dragonzord involvement helped the Tommy losing his powers arc) and Turbanshell(great send off for the Green Ranger), while others I imagine Saban just wasn't sure how to use(Flytrap, Stag Beetle) in their original context. And of course with Octophantom, a lot of reshooting required in the second half of the footage. But then you have Pumpkin Rapper's zord fight being held over until season 2(for time, I'd guess). So I'm just wondering how it was decided that those 10 1/2 monsters would be used for the second season.
And while I'm asking that, another question: Were there a lot of fights that just didn't have much to them, requiring you to shoot extra footage to pad the episode? I'm just trying to confirm a suspicion I have about two monsters you haven't shown us yet(Dramole and Saliguana). Those are the last two unseen monsters I'm most curious about at this point, just because of how little we actually saw of them. Guitardo, even if there was a zord fight, I'd imagine it was similar to Bloom and Flytrap's and he was finished with the Power Sword.

I've noticed that there was no footage of Dragonzord Battle Mode in the zyu2 footage. Out of interest, did you request TOEI not to make any footage involving the Dragonzord Battle Mode or do you think that the DBM costume was lost/damaged?
How come some of the footage such as in Robogoat, Stage Beetle, Pirantishead, and Oysterizer couldn't be used? What didn't the censors approve? Was it because of the switch in Megazords or because Power Rangers is a 30 minute show, which also includes commercial breaks?
Is there any footage of Saliguana or Guitardo that were unusable because of censors, running time, script, or for shortening the dialogue?

Jeff, there is one thing I would like to point out. In the description, you say that there wasn't actually anything called Zyu2 and you are correct. But the footage in question is not from the Japanese Sentai shows. Otherwise it wouldn't be in such high demand.
Basically, this footage was ordered by Saban when it became clear that Power Rangers was a hit. Toei filmed 25 new fights which were used to conclude season one and made up the beginning of season 2, and later on, the fandom would dub this footage "Zyu2". The latter have been the subject of much debate, namely because when aired, the zord fights were chopped up to make use of the Dairanger Mech. And two of the monsters from your previous video had their zord fights unseen. So naturally, wild fan theories became prevalent.
I've really enjoyed these videos so far and I do hope you have more that you'll share at some point. You're doing the fandom a great service by putting these up for us. Thank you so much for everything.

Couldn't agree more with your comment, especially the fights for Pumpkin Rapper, Guitardo and Saliguana as I really want to see their zord fights (pressuming Guitardo has one). The start of the Oysterizer has me intrigued on what else didn't make the MMPR episodes.
One thing I've not understood is the time index. HOW do you get rid of that, from the stock footage, ready to be used in MMPR? If it's present on the VHS, how is this possible?
that's what I'm wondering myself but it probably has to do with a ton of editing but who knows for sure. I hope he will answer that one for us.
The timecodes aren't in the original stock footage, only the VHS viewing copies used at Saban for reference.

I hadn't thought of what ***** had said but it does make sense Infiniti359 for numerous reasons because they would need to record the time code for notes to let the editors know what scenes they wanted to include and what scenes they needed to remove.

Gavin Martin the zyu2 footage was filmed during kakuranger and was just the stunt footage with the zyuranger suits and new monsters in the style of an zuy monster and the silent footage was filmed to the template of stock sentai plots and new mecha battles. the star ranger footage is dai ranger star ranger is the toei international name fo the show the tapes from dai ranger are the clips with the least of the unused suits showing. the new megazord cockpit had to be filmed to cover over the dirangers cockpit the only stock footage fro dai ranger mecha insides was the tigerzord cockpit.
Why couldn't some of the footage from Dairanger or Zyu2 be used?
that's a good question and something that I'd like an answer to as well but I would assume the most likely answer is it's too vulgar or too violent. Now exactly what their definition of "too violent" was back then that's hard to say.

I think the content of Dairanger could be a possibility to not want to show Dairanger footage, but at the same time, I think Saban were probably might have had thoughts about "Zyuranger costumes seem popular, why would we want to risk replacing them?" To keep the Zyuranger costumes, they were lucky that the lion thunderzord didn't show much green. I'd say that when they got to Zeo, that was when they really had no choice but to use new costumes as the green zeo and super zeo zords just had too much green.
Other reasons for some zyu2 footage to not be used would probably be time reasons, content, adapting the Thunderzords, and I think a reason why they cut some of the first bits of the Oysterizer block is that did start with Mammothranger seeking out Oysterizer, and one rule of being a power ranger is to never escalate a battle unless Rita forces them to a.k.a. wait for the monster to appear and then morph, although in MMPR, Zack and Tommy did go to the beach before Oysterizer came out of the water.
Al W I agree with you in regards to them deciding on not using the Dairanger suits (except for Kibaranger) but I was more referring to the actual villains that we did get Dairanger footage of.
I'm sure Ohranger having a Green Ranger with a green zord likely played a part in their decision to switch over the suits but I think the declining ratings during Season 3 likely played another part to that as well since they were likely hoping new suits would give them a boost in the ratings.
True in regards to the Oysterizer block but they actually broke that escalating rule at least twice - they called on the Megazord to fight a small evil Green Ranger and they had called on the zords before Pirantishead even grew.

These are like that. This is what video editors at Saban do when they get footage from Toei. They will have to mute to avoid awkward splicing the audios and to insert their own sounds and music instead of coming from Toei's masters.

Like in Doomsday. I agree that is an existing possibility, but at the same time, maybe TOEI wanted to offer Saban a choice of a cranial laser or laser eyes from the Megazord, but still, Titanus is also an existing possibility, but there is nothing pre set in the zyu2 footage.
