@@hatebreed2k4 Yeah, the most basic stuff you figure out by playing and the trickiest asking the more veteran players (not sure how the very first learnt though :D
I'm playing this game for the very first time right now, as my first arena shooter ever, and it's very nice that there is at least SOMETHING for someone like me. This video is really helpful, thanks a lot.
Yeah before UA-cam was big on gaming (or existing) you needed interaction with other humans. People in my clan told me most stuff. Proper commentary and tutorials could revive UT Like AoE rose from the ashes. Good luck to you all
I remember almost 2 decades ago I was part of organizing a fun little ut2k4 1v1dm tournament. It was called Pew Pew Cup. We had double elimination, forums, a website... Anywho, HateBreed was well on his way to winning the tournament but then CrazyHorse got all butt mad and kept the prize money.
Dude, that tournament broke my heart. I was pretty excited to have a tourney with even just a small cash prize to bring out some good players and give some effort, but I think we got to around quarter finals and the tournament organizer just vanished
Not only was this game like actually sick with the stuff you could do with movement/weapons, it was also crazily optimized. My friend back in the day had a PC that could legit barely run runescape, but unreal tournament ran with no FPS skips at all just fine. Pretty sure he had a Pentium III, looool. Sad day when all the newcomers want to play other shooters that seem to have significantly less depth. This game is way underappreciated
The movement in this game, and in Unreal Tournament in general is straight up amazing. That's all i can say. Oh yeah, great tutorial! Looking forward to see more. :)
Hi, You can make interesting other dodges on Rankin : for example You can side dodge from the elevator to that ramp You Couldn't climb the usual way, it's a long dodge + jump over the floor (where the rifle is) and You slide up ! On the over ramp in the same place (the ramp on the 150Shield side) You can Wall dodge + front climb up the ramp.
I don't think he will, bc UT99 's movement is very primitive and jerky, compared to UT2004 (although I must admit UT99 is my personal favorite overall).
Thanks to Epics for being bold at the time. They've implemented a complex movement system into a high-paced shooter. UT2k4 is the best mp shooter of all time mostly because of it, in my book.
I can never get into any of the new FPSes, I grew up with UT2k4 and this kind of movement is so lacking in any new game. Fortnite, overwatch, pubg, CS, APEX, CoD, Titanfall.. all these games have such boring and subpar movement, even Titanfall 2 was dissapointing. All these games are about aim and RNG since the hitscan weapons have a lot of random element.. UT weapons are all skill shit based.. oh good times.. good times Also those shieldgun jumps were sick!
@@gb4643aghl is probably the worst in terms of beginner-friendly: bunny-hop is very hard to learn, apply, and is the slowest at building speed . Although it's very fun to watch
I use the standard WASD with space for jump. FOV is a bit of personal choice, I famously use as low of FOV as possible at 80 with a super lower sensitivity, which in my opinion made hitscan weapons like Shock Rifle and Lightning Gun easier to hit, but closer-range weapons like Flak and Rockets became a struggle. My game plan was always to keep my distance and use hitscan, so the low FOV suited my playstyle better.
Glad the video could help. The movement was one of the biggest draws to me when I first started playing. Combine flying around with no recoil, it's very fun
You are actually missing one jump in the movement section which is actually the most tricky one, most people called it boost (not the adrenaline combo ;). It's hard to explain but let me try. It's similar to a wall jump but you do it from the ground running next to the wall (or any other thing you can boost off) and it's the only way to get to certain locations in one smooth movement without shield jump, like in DM-Antalus the 50 shield from the lower ground doing this you can slide up the hill all the way in one go. To do it, run along the wall and once you reach the point to boost off, you double press the opposite direction from the wall and jump at the same time while still holding forward, so hold w then left + jump twice (if the thing you are boosting off is on your right). So it's not double tapping away from the wall and then jumping like you would in a regular wall jump, you tap and jump twice at the same time. Then this one can also be combined with the shield jump (you hit the wall you are boosting off in a 45º angle towards the floor) for insane diagonal jumps There's another comment below talking about this jump, calling it long dodge + jump (again I don't think there's like a 100% official name for it)
Oh yeah I remember this, me and my friends just called it boost jump! From what I remember, it was a bit of a glitch in that it was taking the movement from a dodge and wall jump and combing both into an extra big jump. But I was under the impression it was unintentional because it was only possible in UT2003 and got removed in UT2004.
@@hatebreed2k4 What go removed in UT2004 was boosting out the wall after taking a jump pad for example, but this jump I'm talking about is 100% still there in 2004
Nope, that comes from quake. Rocket jumps in UT do too much damage to yourself, but you can do something similar with the hammer gun to get a bit more height
MY jumping gaming experince in ut2004 . I changed the doubleclicktime to 0.20 because i got shorter jump with doubledodgetjump in the ut2004demo instagib lowgravity Cft-bridge .I could jump into flagroom and not get stucked in the meshes by this , main reason thou were I could not boostjump in ut2003 and thought i could do this by having a shorter doubleclicktime and then even shorter -I did it once - I figured out ? that i needed a doubleclicktime of dd 0.12 - I could do 0.18 shorter periods and try 0.16 and not succed often .I just gave up on boostjump and played on dd 0.20 because I was one that could . Now im shure the limit maybe lay in motherboard bios -the keyboard input or windows or I was nearing 43 so i was old -but I can still do 0.20.

I agree! It feels awesome to be flying around and clearing such large gaps! I always really liked the dodge mechanic, hope to see it in other games!

Yo, you mind doing a ut99 movement video? You mentioned it briefly, but covering it would be great since there aren't any other videos

Quake and UT are and always will better and waaaaaay more skill based than any modern "competitive" shooter out there...

@HateBreeD what keybinds do you use for your Dodge keys and your Jump key? Also what FOV and screen resolution is best for UT 2004?

Very usefull. I am relatively new to fps arena games (quake and ut2004 mostly), and I was wondering how people made these madness movements

That reminds me of a slope boost in the original UT99
How did you bring up a map with no bots attacking you so you could practice the moves??
I just entered a public 1v1 server that was in warmup mode, it must have had bots turned off
