I think if we already practice Dorje Shugdan, we should continue as it is a practice bestowed by our precious Gurus. If we don't practice it, we should not disparage others who do because that is not what the Dalai Lama has ever said and taught. We should all start to practice the Dharma and not get carried away with politics.
Dorji shug**n is a bad deity, if you worship him he will take you as his slave after you die, and it is not even allowed to even say his name as it gives him power
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama comes on this planet for every sentient being and many persons don’t understand English. A lot of people would like to understand and put into practice what His Holiness says. Thank you so much to translate in other languages His Holiness teachings.
If smashing people's shrines and threatening poeple with death is considered by followers of the DL the right thing to do then they have little understanding of Buddha's teachings and should study correctly and follow the unbroken lineage teachings and put them into practice...the core of that is to not cause harm to others!
I was there for his teaching on Saturday July 12. The Shugden Protesters were there, and yet it did not alter the calm that pervaded. His Holiness created a presence that I still feel up to this day, a week later. It was amazing to look around and see all the smiles on everyone's face, it filled me with great joy. Anyhow, I hope that the Shugden practitioners can find peace, after all...we are all brothers and sisters following the Buddha's teachings. Blessings to all.
If the Dalai Lama calls it spirit worship, then what does he call consulting the Nechung Oracle? He should therefore be fair and ban Nechung also. And all other Dharma Protectors as they could have once been evil spirits. Didn't the Dalai Lama consult Dorje Shugden when he was about to exit Tibet in 1959 in order to get out safely?
In the land encircled by snow mountains, you are the source of all happiness and good. All powerfull Chenrezig Tenzin Gyatso, please remain until Samsara ends.
If one understands properly the function of protector deity practice there is no issue. The truth is that the D L speaking out against this practice which has been passed down to him through the most venerated spiritual guides has produced vast amounts of suffering for many people. Those who see him as the leader of Buddhist teachings (this is not the case but he is in a position of great authority) have acted on those words and created violence and hatred against many Tibetans in particular.
From an outsider's point of view, worshipping one deity or another is neither worse or better, in fact, is all about beliefs. If Dalai Lama preaches compassion, tolerance and respect, he should perhaps put it into practice. I find it deeply disappointed that he goes around talking about love when he is discriminating about people in Tibet because they follow a certain cult. It has been claimed that certain Shugden followers have committed crimes... and who hasn't in any given community? What about the sexual abuse that many monk children endure all over Tibet? Wouldn't it be a reason too to then ban those monasteries? Why is the Dalai Lama turning a blank eye on this very important issue and focusing so much on the Shugden followers? I have no affiliation with the Shugden cult, I am simply a defender of human rights and democratic values, I am dismayed to see that those values are not important in the Dalai Lama's eyes. After all, he is the icon of a tradition strongly entrenched in hierarchy and privilege. A real disappointment.
Maria Delao Re: "If Dalai Lama preaches compassion, tolerance and respect, he should perhaps put it into practice. I find it deeply disappointed that he goes around talking about love when he is discriminating about people in Tibet because they follow a certain cult." You fell for their line. The Dalai Lama was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for a very good reason. Many Buddhist gurus, including myself, reject the practice of Shugden. There is no "ban". Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche has been allowed by the Dalai Lama to do Shugden practice. There is an EXCLUSION. If you do Shugden, then don't attend a Dalai Lama empowerment. The Shugden people claim to be wronged and they attack. Viciously. Everyone is getting sick of them. Including lots of principal Tibetan lineage holders. And the Dalai Lama has millions of devoted followers. He says it is better to not do Dorje Shugden, so they follow his very good advice. I have repeatedly defeated the Shugden people in online discussions. I would rather do something more constructive than fighting off vicious dishonest fools. But this is strategic defense of Great Way Mahayana / Buddhism and I have to get the job done right. I have succeeded on the discussions for this and other videos. The bad guys will lose. He who throws mud generally loses ground. The major western group doing Shugden, the New Kadampa, will fall. People leave them and find much better alternatives. The online blogs for New Kadampa and Shugden tell the real story. The truth will out. Even the muggle outsiders get it. The Shugden activists only make enemies for their cause, not friends. ======================= How to Practice: The Way to a Meaningful Life Paperback - August 19, 2003 by Dalai Lama (Author), Jeffrey Hopkins (Editor, Translator) Paperback: 226 pages Publisher: Atria Books (August 19, 2003) ISBN-10: 0743453360 www.amazon.com/How-Practice-The-Meaningful-Life/dp/0743453360/ As human beings, we all share the desire for happiness and meaning in our lives. Amazon.com Review As a primer on living the good life, few books compete with How to Practice, another profound offering from the exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Westerners may be confused by the book's title, assuming that it focuses solely on Buddhist meditation and prayer techniques. Though it does address meditation and prayer, at its core this is a book that demonstrates how day-to-day living can be a spiritual practice. There are two ways to create happiness: The first is external. By obtaining better clothes, better shelter, and better friends we can find a certain measure of happiness and satisfaction. The second is through mental development, which yields inner happiness. However, these two approaches are not equally viable. External happiness cannot last long without its counterpart.... However, if you have peace of mind you can find happiness even under the most difficult circumstances. As he has in previous books (An Open Heart, The Art of Happiness), the Dalai Lama reminds us that developing peace of mind means paying attention to our daily attitudes and choices as well as taking the time to meditate and be prayerful. The six-part book covers Buddhist meditation techniques and visualization exercises as well as daily thoughts and actions that foster morality and wisdom. --Gail Hudson 282 of 293 people found the following review helpful To Practice Peace and Kindness By Robin Friedman HALL OF FAMETOP 100 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on March 28, 2002 This book by H.H. the Dalai Lama may be read by those wishing an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism and by those wishing to begin or develop their practice. The Dalai Lama attempts to answer the basic question: "How can people be happy?" His answer outlines a path of spiritual growth and practice. Although based upon Tibetan Buddhism, there is wisdom in the book for anybody seeking spiritual growth, within or without any specific religious practice. The book consists of six short sections. It begins with a brief discussion of the life of the Buddha which, as the Dalai Lama points out, encompasses the basic teachings of the Buddhist path: morality, concentrated meditation and wisdom. The Dalai Lama then explains the basis of each teaching in short chapters. It is good that the book gives its focus to moral practice -- curing anger, lust, hatred, and agression and wishing well to oneself and others. Chapter III of the book discusses meditation practices and will introduce the beginner to the value of meditation and to several meditation techniques. The Dalai Lama stresses the need for consistent practice and for patience and for the need of controlling one's expectations. There are several chapters which discuss the difficult but key Buddhist teaching of dependent origination. Much of this material the Dalai Lama also covers in an earlier book called "The Meaning of Life." There is a concluding section on Tantra, a uniquely Tibetan practice. I think it is better for the average person to remain with the practices of morality and concentration described earlier in the book. Some of the unique features of this book are the Dalai Lama's anecdotes of his life in Tibet before the Chinese Invasion of 1950 and of his teachers. There is a substantial discussion of sexuality in the book and of how it may be used (and abused) in the search for peace and kindness. (pages 192-196) There is a translation of the Heart Sutra, a key Buddhist text with a commentary by the Dalai Lama. (159-163) 160 of 169 people found the following review helpful Buddhism for Beginners By E. Thompson on March 19, 2002 I am completely new to Buddhism and am thoroughly impressed by the Dalai Lama's clear, simple explanation. He effectively describes how even a complete Western beginner like myself can begin to end suffering by practicing. Throughout the book, the Dalai Lama's enlightenment and compassion shine off of the pages through modest stories of his life and experiences. The Dalai Lama starts out the book with the basics of Buddhist morality, moves on to the practice of meditation, and ends with the details of wisdom and tantra. There are images for meditation, lists of moral and amoral thoughts and deeds, and even a short explanation of the concept of emptiness. Most striking of all is the Dalai Lama's comment at the very end of the book, "Though my own knowledge is limited and my experience is also very poor, I have tried my best to help you understand the full breadth of the Buddha's teaching." With these words, the Dalai Lama sets a startling example for the aspiring student by both showing humility and providing a reminder of the breadth and depth of Buddhist enlightenment. I higly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in beginning to follow the Buddhist path. 55 of 58 people found the following review helpful Multi leveled book for practicing Buddhists By Tom Perigrin on August 6, 2005 This is not really an introductory Buddhist text, although the previous reviews suggest that some (but not all) non-Buddhists have gained by reading it. Rather, it's title exactly describes it - if you are a practicing Buddhist, it tells you "How To Practice". Of course, there is no single way to practice - in fact, there are at least 84,000 ways to practice spread over many traditions (Theravadan (SE Asia), Mahayanan (Zen, Pure Land), and Vajrayana (Tibetan). This book is primarily written for Tibetan Buddhists, but the guidelines are sufficiently broad that I have given this book to Zen and Theravaden Buddhists who found much to agree about. The book is broken into three major sections - mirroring the three fold grouping often applied to the 8-fold path: morality, meditation and wisdom. The book also introduces the Tantric methods of Vajrayanan Buddhism. Each chapter covers it's topic in a clear, concise fashion, and ends with a "Summary for Daily Practice". This helps tie the writing (which can be somewhat theoretical) into the title of the book "How To Practice". The first section introduces the Four Noble Truths, and expands upon them and finally brings them to ground in practices such as such as the Four Wholesum Practices, the Six Perfections, etc. The second section is a brief but very clear introduction to various types of meditation, including analytical and stabilizing meditation, etc. I have loaned the book to other practitioners and they agree that this is a great book to loan to beginners. The third section is about Wisdom - the nature of reality and relative and ultimate truth (and for those of you who are really dedicated - emptiness). He ties all of this together with brief analysis of the Heart Sutra. The book is only 220-odd pages long. This means it is just a brief overview. A Tibetan scholar (Geshe) will spend 18 years studying 1000's of pages covering these topics. However, in one way of looking at it the book is far too long. A student of Zen might say the whole answer is contained in one Koan or statement such as "Go Straight". And that too is the nature of Buddhism - it is both so huge and ulitmately so simple. =======================
If you dont believe dalai lama then live in your home happily snd worship shugden.dalai lama just say who follow shugden dont make spritual contact with him.whats wrong in that .give some personal right to his holiness.
Honestly, I don't feel one way or the other about Shugden practice but mainly because I'm not too informed as to what it's about. This is the most straightforward answer I've gotten from a Tricycle article. www.tricycle.com/feature/letting-daylight-magic-the-life-and-times-dorje-shugden The so-called Drakpa Gyaltsen* pretends to be a sublime being. But since this interfering spirit and creature of distorted prayers Is harming everything, both dharma and sentient beings, Do not support, protect or give him shelter, but grind him to dust. - The Fifth Dalai Lama (1617-1682) *The Drakpa Gyaltsen was the Fifth Dalai Lama's rival. Dorje Shugden is considered to be his reincarnation, resurrected to oppose the involvement of Gelugpa monks with Nyingma teachings. If people want to practice, fine. If people don't want to practice, also fine. I don't really approve of the steps taken to exclude the Shugden practitioners at all. But the Dalai Lama is human and is prone to make mistakes as humans do. Hopefully soon he'll see that his decision divides people and that, in it's essence, contradicts the teaching of the one-ness of humanity. That doesn't mean all he says is bad. Just that mistakes were made. Big mistakes but human mistakes.
Animal murder is like any murder, If a man murders a person and others eat his body, they will all be implicated in the murder and equally receive punishment. the world wide suffering and murder of animals is the karmic cause of violence in our world. Besides destroying the forests and oceans this is main reason for war, famine, disease and all sufferings plaguing man-kind. I see a world plagued with pain and suffering, war, famine, natural disaster, mental illness, it makes it impossible for me to be peaceful and happy with so much unhappiness in the world, I have spent 20 years searching for why its like this and have realized that their is KARMA. Karma is as real as gravity, its absolute. like what goes up must come down.I see it so clearly it has forced me to change my life and live with it, as to go against it is like walking of a ten story building in ignorance of gravity. Violence is everywhere people hurting people, but if we take a look from another angle we can see people being hurt by other people, and then we ask why? Why are people being hurt by other people? why do a lot of good people suffer violence? like women and children why are they receiving violence? The list of happenings where innocent people lose their lives is unending, far to much to list here so why? what activity are these cultures all doing that could possibly bring about such violence as seen in wars etc... the answer is "Animal slaughter", killing and causing the suffering of animals, its the only thing they all do that is violent. Cause and effect, we reap what we sow, thall shalt not kill, Karma. This and Hurting mother earth in all variety of manner, but mainly this. You only need go to any slaughterhouse to see the cause of murder genocide anguish and fear. The poor animals are screaming just like we do, they are fearful and in anxiety just like we are, if we want a non-violent world, we have to be non-violent. Their is no empathy in a society of animal killers and people who destroy rain-forest and kill all the oceans creatures. This was the Buddha's main conclusion in concerns to the cause of suffering. Violence results in violence, if you read this please try to see this, Karma is 100% reality, means weather you believe or not, doesn't matter, whether your young or old, like gravity it doesn't distinguish, fire burns weather your know its hot or not. If you don't agree with violence don't commit violence. This is where all our societies have gone wrong and thus been destroyed. take the fruit from the trees, the leaves from the gardens etc theirs no need to kill. Thank-you.
Very Very good Advised Thank you very much Your Holiness, Now some of Ignorance people must know. Still His Holiness has concern and compassion to Shugden Practitioner.
From the bottom of my heart as a human, i am NOT A CHINESE PAID AGENT. I work my butt off to make living. This is what all Tibetans will call you if you oppose their lovely leader - chinese agent. Ok, Do any Tibetans remember when Dalai Lama said 5 years, most 10 years of when Tibet will be free? Obviously we know by now that praying and honesty does not deliver Independence. Has anybody had chance to ask Dalai Lama, what happened to that prediction? .... As a Tibetan, will somebody ask him when he will lead us closer to our freaking Independence??????? Just ask him, what are you doing to gain our Independence? I love peace and world peace, but what the ..... are you doing to help Tibetans gain their much due Independence? You are after all regarded ass EVERYTHING all mighty Spritual and Political leader by all Tibetan. I used to pray daily and never dare to ask you questions but you have grown into a world celebrity and your administration is feeding off your celebrity and make their living. But what about the real cause? Those who support and truly care about OUR COUNTRY, ask Dalai Lama, WHAT IS OUR PLAN TO GET OUR FREEDOM BACK???? You can go into heaven by following and believing Dalai Lama, but i rather stay back and live and fight for Tibet until i DIE. HELLLOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Truth1888 speaks the truth. I believe Dorje Shugden's time is coming - he is definitely needed today, in our obstacle filled, ignorant, messy lives. May the holy Protector bless everyone to see the truth! A prayer by HH 14th Dalai Lama to Dorje Shugden: HUM Glory of the wisdom, compassion and power of infinite Buddhas Miraculously powerful protector of Manjusri Tsongkhapas Teachings Arisen as a lord of all wrathful worldly hosts Come from the abodes of Tushita, Kechara, and so forth!
Just so people can stop centering there criticism of this issue around His Holiness, and for those claiming he has strange body language which means "he's not telling the truth" even though thats just how he and other teachers ive seen sometimes move there body while talking, theres more you all need to learn about this issue than just videos of the Dalai lama talking about it. First off, he's not lying when he says that the 5th Dalai Lama advised againat this practice. The 13th Dalai Lama was against it as well. Along with His Holiness Sakya Trizin, Mindrolling Rinpoche, many Nyingma Lamas, the Nyingma tradition in which this practice actually is divisive towards, and Guru Padmasambhava himself gave prophecies of a time when Tibet will divide and fall apart when people start worshipping apirits as though they would Buddhas. Also, in the order of reverence within the merit field, the Guru is at the very top with the Buddhas, and the deities and bodhisattvas and arhats all the way down to the bottom are all established in hierarchical order. Guess what remains at the bottom...dharma protectors. Why? Because dharma protectors are not actually part of the 3 jewels, the are aids in one's practice but are not the center of one's practice. So when you give an initiation for a protector practice, something is off. A buddha or other deity can be considered a protector because they protect as they are objects of refuge. However a strictly dharma protector is not a buddha. Furthermore, Lama Zopa, who advises against the practice especially within the FMPT, and Choden rinpoche who himself was a student of this lineage, gave up this practice and followed His Holiness. So are they now abandoning their lineage and teachers?? Nonsense. The fact that the Dalai Lama thinks critically and can make rational decisions and can change his mind on certain things shows he does not follow dogma. Because real Dharma is not dogma.
ianipoo Re: "Guru Padmasambhava himself gave prophecies of a time when Tibet will divide and fall apart when people start worshipping spirits." That is correct. The ancient prophecy of Padmasambhava was clearly fulfilled. "When horses run on wheels, and the iron bird flies in the sky, the Tibetans will be scattered like ants across the Earth and the Buddhist teaching will come tothe land of the Red Man." That is what happened. A thousand years later.
All we ask is to be able to say our prayers and follow the advice of our Spiritual Guides without fear of persecution, ostracism, and abuse. Why is it so hard for a Buddhist leader to agree to this?
I tried to read all this thread .... it seems to me that the point has been missed , that buddhism and the dalai lama are about peace ... a peaceful mind .. and in the end the end to all suffering ... all i see here is anger , judgement , hatred , and confused minds .. at least we should all aim to do no harm to others .. rant over
that is a perfect example in how do i destroy all the faith ppl have in the position of a Dalai Lama , he already declared that he might be the last one and we will get the second Karmapa , recognized by the Dalai Lama but not from our side , he has divided our lineage ( i tried not to say destroy it but that´s what i think ) . if we want to keep the precious teachings of this religion we have to go back to the roots and re establish our way towards liberation and the tools for that goal .
@MsOntological I've visited the local NKT center a few times, though not as a member . . . based on what I saw in the gatherings and what little I've read of NKT literature, the Kadampa tradition does not seem to put any form of worship of (or prayer to) Dorje Shugden front and center, so to speak; instead, the primary focus seems to be on teaching Buddhist ethics and Buddhist philosophical principles, perhaps combined with a bit of honorary deference to Shakyamuni Buddha. Is that about right?
Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind, For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages, Provide the good and avert the bad!" (V Dalai Lama)
ridiculous to hear NKT and other Shugden practicing traditions described as cults. there is nothing essentially unique to NKT and certainly no belief that describes other traditions as 'false'. Geshe Kelseng describes Dorje Shugden simply as a manifestation of Buddha who is benevolent towards all beings. In this sense Dorje Shugden is no different than any other object of concentration in essence. IMHO HH Dalai Lama is creating division and causing suffering by creating this controversy out of nothing. to second a below point, how can Dorje Shugden harm others when it is a manifestation of emptiness like all other phenomena? to say "you can or can't practice a certain way" is a great hypocrisy when you are promoting non-sectarianism.
'New Kadampa Tradition - NKT / aka IKBU, International Kadampa Buddhist Union' BE WARNED - A Seriously Dangerious Cult. Please watch: *"An Unholy Row" BBC Documentary* about this Cult leader & the NKT also please read all the comments..
@@Christina-fb8vh ok so by your logic, any guru-based traditions are cults. Including followers of the Dalai Lama. I’m not a member of the NKT so it doesn’t really concern me too much. I would encourage you to examine your own beliefs. Are you actually in a cult?
There is a really Great Book out now about the New Kadampa Tradition aka NKT / IKBU, International Kadampa Buddhist Union, with ( Many Survivors Testimonies ) and about the Cults Dolgyal Evil worship & the so called 3rd Buddha of this age's the fraud expelled monk Kelsang Gyatso with Much More. Called: 'Polluting Buddhism' The politics, envy, and greed of Kelsang Gyatso and NKT (Lies have consequences) By Thomas N. Tiedt. (Search)
I have a friend in san francisco he asked me about budhism about 10 years ago .now he is a kadampa instructor a mindfullness you make a course and you convert yourself in a teacher
If we have put faith in someone such as the Dalai Lama, it is always hard to accept that it is possible that they have done something badly wrong. Simple logic shows that so much suffering and problems have occurred since the DL 'made it difficult' or you could say banned the practice by ostracising monks and nuns and people in Tibetan communities. Also, logic says that if the DL was a realised being he would have understood whether this practice was correct or not a long time back since he practised it for many years! These instructions of Dorje Shugden dharma protector practise are pure teachings passed down through the lineage and through HIS teachers, so is he saying the wonderful teachings of his spiritual guide Trijang Rimpoche and all the lineage gurus are wrong? This is clearly crazy...he should stop mixing political power and religion. It looks to me that him being chosen as DL was made for political reasons and he was brought up in the unfortunate position of being a political and religious leader who is treated as a king. I sympathise. The teachings of Buddha are clear and unmistaken....we should not be the instigator of suffering for others and unfortunately the DL and his supporters are finding it difficult to look at the truth of this because their life and view and view are closely tied together. It is the teachings of Buddha which count and we should all maintain the purity of that. As soon as he stops this controlling of religious freedom, the protests will stop but The DL and many others will have to develop humility and admit they have made a mistake...this is important to be able to do on the Buddhist path...but if he does, as Buddhists we will all say how wonderful... they have developed a humble mind....there will be no losers then!! Until that day comes and DL supporters let go of thinking he is the head of Buddhism, protests will continue. Anyone who practices Buddha's teachings purely and who has deep and profound realisations of all the stages of the path is a true lineage holder. May all interferences and obstacles to people's spiritual progress be Pacified!!
Can The Dalai Lama digest your food? Can Dorje Shugden breath for you? No. By all means revere and worship whomever appeals to you, but remember, You Are Your Own Guru. As Chan (Zen) Patriarch Bodhidharma said "Do not use a Buddha to worship a Buddha." The 1st Buddha, is your innate Buddha-Nature, deep within. The second Buddha is Universal Buddha Nature which encompasses good and bad and what lies beyond both; in all dimensions, times and non-times, spaces and non-space. Using a Buddha to worship a Buddha, is like going to the shopping mall to look for your head.
Shugden is not an Arabic influence and His Holiness is not trying to reject foreign spirit. The Shugden or Gyalpo ,as it is called, is born out of negative aspiration and has been worshiped by some section of Yellow hat sect. The Buddha never worshipped a spirit nor consider them as buddhistavas. Unlike Nechung (WHO IS A STATE ORACLE OF TIBET BUT DALAI LAMA NEVER CONSIDER HIM AS A BUDDHA OR BUDDHISTAVA), the shugden has been rejected by many great lamas past and present. He has been the centre of controversy for centuries. Since, shugden worship is not a buddhist practice, His Holiness is right in expelling its worshippers from monasteries.(Nagarjuna has expelled thousands from nalanda university). His Holiness never denied religious freedom as he don't have authority or power to do so. Though His Holiness a compassionate and loving master, he needs to be tough as foremost leader of Buddhist world to keep Buddha's teaching intact and pure... no one can tolerate adulation in Buddha's teaching.
kunchok Sonam Dorje shugen was practice by Tibetans monks long before this wolf in Buddha clothing is born what gives him the right to ban Dorje shugen from been practice by these traditions which has been pass down by those great masters Lama before him his action have caused millions of suffering and blood flow dividing monks and Tibetans and creating hatred against each other by banning Dorje shugen Buddha would not have done this according to his teaching he would have give his blessing and carry on with his Darma to right the wrong without bad blood , what Dalai Lama doing is too cruelty for humanity he is not fit to be a monk
Nechung is a spirit bound by oath to serve the dharma , the dalai lama contradicts himself by saying we do not seek advice by lower beings , he argues that Dorje Shugden is a Spirit and by that easily eradicates buddhist lineages and declares their teaching to be wrong and a-dharma , only by advice from his spirit which is only on duty because it gave an oath to do so , no one can claim something else neither i can claim that as we have no insight in the spirits motivations . if i would be a foe of buddhism and would have the power and might of the dalai lama i would act like he did , divide and conquer as the free masons like to say , spread the seeds of doubt and get ppl weird , the doubts alone will do a great job , who would turn an eye to a teaching where such things occur ? then his recognition of the second karmapa , what is this , the sharmapa and the kagyu lineage do not need the dalai lamas recognition , the sharmapa has this authority and again he divided a former unified lineage and no one knows how destructive this decision will be in the future . when i look at the tibetans who get expelled from their communities only because of DS worship and the suffering caused by that , the violent attacks on innocent ppl , is this compassion ? is this the acting of an incarnated Buddha ? and if so why does he not really explain it or at least one time debates it ?
BioStuff415 Buddha teaching is to respect all being and those who believe in gods he never instigated anyone to believe in his beliefs which can cause hatred. Dalai Lama is doing the opposite causing and dividing Buddhist monks and Tibetans to fight and kill each other and propaganda lies creating tensions between neighbouring countries seeking western countries to support him as a true leader and living Buddha of Tibet, dalai Lama is a wayward monk playing politic wearing Buddha robe destroying the good name of buddishim as a violent religion
The Gelug monasteries have agreed to "cut the bond with Shugden", but there is no general ban. The practice is NOT prohibited, Shugden followers have their own monasteries now. That IS religious freedom!
@Varavaken my complaint is loud and clear in my post. he is creating a big split among Tibetans unnecesarily with this Dorje Shugden nonsense. bringing more suffering to a people who is already in pain. he is only the spiritual leader of TB as a proffesion, but in actual fact he does harm to his own people.
The controversy started in the 70´s after "The Yellow Book" was published. In modern times DS became the enforcer of the purity of Gelugpa doctrine. DS has a sectarian purpose. According to this book. Shugden has punished (even killed) Gelugpas who mix the traditions. This book angered the non-sectarians and eventually resulted in the split 1996...
I don't know the situation but the issue is in misunderstanding and unacceptance, as far as I see. Personally, I would at least accept the differences between ideas and make peace, though remain on my own way.
ZionRebirth .Tello Re: "the issue is in misunderstanding". No it is not. There are two opposing camps and there can be no reconciliation. The issues are all entirely clear. I would be happy for each side to each simply go their own way. But the Shugden people attack and attack and attack while claiming they are wronged. That's what this is all about. It's gone too far and it's gone on too long. and the Tibetans and western Tibetan Buddhists are turning against the Shugden people, because quite a few of the Shugden activists are so abusive. I find them to be vile and as Buddhist guru I judge that their Mahayana Buddhist commitments are often completely destroyed. The penalty for that is, among other things, that they cannot accomplish any higher spiritual goals. This is a zero-sum game. And the Shugden people will lose. They started a war and there can be only one outcome now. If I were on their team I would resign right now. It's hopeless.
If you actually read the story of the Fifth Dalai Lama, as he is suggesting, you will see that he eventually realized he made a mistake about Dorje Shugden, recognized him as a Wisdom Buddha and made a statue of him and wrote a praise to him. This is all explained in "Music Delighting an Ocean of Protectors" written by Trijang Rinpoche, the current Dalai Lama's teacher. We are waiting for the current Dalai Lama to follow the example of the fifth and realize the mistake he is making.
***** Re: "We are waiting for the current Dalai Lama to follow the example of the Fifth [ Dalai Lama ]". He does. The Fourteenth Dalai Lama, like the Thirteenth and the Fifth Dalai Lamas, oppose Shugden. The mistake of the Shugden activists, which is their aggression, is now crushing them. Give it up! As of 2015, you lose! I'm serious. Read this and weep. You backed the wrong horse. All your efforts are wasted. -------------- buddhism-controversy-blog.com/2015/06/24/tibets-top-religious-leaders-condemn-shugden-worshippers-anti-dalai-lama-tirade/ More than 66 representatives from 58 monasteries and Buddhist institutes, including the Gaden Tripa Rizong Rinpoche, the Sakya Trizin, the Karmapa Rinpoche, the Menri Trizin, the Shabdrung Rinpoche, the Drukchen Rinpoche’s Representative Khenpo Tenzin and the Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche’s representative Kathok Gezey Rinpoche attended the conference, as did representatives from the Jonang tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, said the exile Tibetan administration at Dharamshala on its Tibet.net website Jun 20. ------------- A previous (100th) Ganden Tripa (Head of the Geluga Order), Lobsang Nyingma Rinpoche, stated: “If it [Shugden] were a real protector, it should protect the people. There may not be any protector such as this, which needs to be protected by the people. Is it proper to disturb the peace and harmony by causing conflicts, unleashing terror and shooting demeaning words in order to please the Dharmapala? Does this fulfill the wishes of our great masters? Try to analyze and contemplate on the teachings that had been taught in the Lamrim [stages of path], Lojong [training of mind] and other scriptural texts. Does devoting time in framing detrimental plots and committing degrading acts, which seems no different from the act of attacking monasteries wielding swords and spears and draining the holy robes of the Buddha with blood, fulfill the wishes of our great masters?”
***** We -Vietnamese love and support Dalai Lama and Chinese Beijing should stop their Black Hand to divide Tibetan Chinese Beijing destroyed mostly Tibetan monasteries but they ecourage and forces Tibetan follow Shugden. So ironly !
Than Nau Yes, it is ironic. Just as you say. Beijing confiscated the food of 500,000 Tibetans and then made most of them starve while that food fed only the Chinese. And they blew up over 4,000 monasteries. Beijing supports ( some ) Shugden followers and temples in Eastern Tibet. This works well for their program to undermine the Dalai Lama. I have seen on a Shugden website praise for the powerful, modernizing Chinese regime. But it is still basically a slave system there. China is still a feudal empire. It's the Dalai Lama who supports democracy and freedom of religion, not the Chinese. The Fifth, Thirteenth and Fourteenth Dalai Lamas have consistently and strongly opposed Shugden. And that turns out to be of huge significance. Shugden is a minor protector spirit, a gyalpo, and clearly very punitive. Best to avoid the gyalpos. Especially this one. That Yellow Book is pretty scary. And not how Manjusri or Yamantaka would do things. Shugden is NOT a classical Gelugpa practice. And the Sakyas have shut down Shugden practice. Shugden practice is fairly minor in the West and is weakening among both Tibetan refugees and western tantrikas. Thank goodness.
@CT2507 you said the dalai lama banned it, not me! but actually you're allowed to practice it, therefore there is no ban thats not hypocrisy, that is a fact! and another fact is, that you're lying, since you claim there is a ban, so stop lying??
It could be the case that bodhi shug den is martyred by jealous assistants of 5th dalai lama, and the wrath that followed could be that of the fury of the dharmic wholeness, now mistook as a anger of a murdered over his murder, the legend says, he volunteered his death as he taught compassionqtely, his killers, how to kill him - but the then Dalai lama did not know any of such background facts. Further, the being helped dalai lama to escape from Chinese aggression. So, after reading, I think, this being, could be a holy sage martyred, victim martyres become guardian ancestor, in many culture. I think dalai lama should correct his reading as he should not hurt a beneficial sentient guardian, a dharma protector. He could be the bodhi dharma siddhan, known in Chinese legends a siddha from the south India. Taking all these into consideration, dalailama should correct his error, if any. The wrongs, if any, would be politically used by the political enemies of Tibet. I hope some one would take this message to his holiness Dalai Lama.
If there was a general ban, the practice would be prohibited. It´s not. But it has stopped in Gelug monasteries. The Shugden group have their own monasteries in India. They can practice freely.
@MrLiberal91 For heaven´s sake - the Dalai Lama IS the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism,( four schools, five with the Bön tradition). Just look it up. One of the most outstanding masters of the 20th century was Chökyi Lodrö. He had authority on all four traditions and was a holder of all lineages. Yes - it is possible. Non sectarianism is NOT about merging the traditions. Tibetan Buddhism is not Shugdenism, MrLiberal91.
@allinthemind ....and in the end we are still blessed with these teachings. Banning that practice in the past has not stopped myself or countless others find real happiness. There will always SEEM to be confusion and strife in the decisions that are made by those with the most wisdom in any sangha, but in the end it's our own view, and how we interpret it. Good subject but in the end I find it more benificial to concentrate on my diluted view rather than policy and politics..and stay non secular
Bandits entered my house and killed my 7 year old sister in 1991. They tried to kill my mother and robbed my family jewelries . My brother was psychologically disturbed after the incident and now has become mad. I suffered physically and mentally for 20 years. My family went from riches to rags immediately . I experienced living hell. All because my family worshipped Shugden. May Guru Rimpoche save us from further disasters. Gyabsuchee.
Trijang Rimpoche and all the great lineage gurus that passed down these instructions were not wrong as would be the case if one followed the DL's angle on this! This issue shows that mixing politics and dharma is the wrong way to go and that keeping pure motivations is.
For one I am not a 'Buddhist in any formal way although I subscribe to its philosophy and believe in the Man who Awoke, who spent his life teaching the Dharma..both to gods and men...who through his life and teachings has helped me tremendously to find my center and my heart. That is all I need...The Tathaga..and the Dharmakaya I do not believe that worshiping any man as a god is productive, I think that he is just trying to eliminate a practice that gets in the way of true enlightenment...
@CT2507 The spiritual leader of TB is the Dalai Lama. Tibetans inside and outside Tibet have faith in him. The Dalai Lama is fully supported in his view by the monastic communities. That´s the way it is, whether you like it or not.
You are lying. The fifth Dalai Lama composed of praising Shugden as a Buddha manjushri and he offered a Tote temple to Dorje Shugden. Why don’t you mentioned these things???
@CT2507 i think this is too far behind to find out the question should be: why was Geshe Kelsang Gyatso expelled from the monastery??? lets research that?
Don't New Kadampa follow DS too? I take it that the basic problem is that Dalai Lama sees DS as not an enlightened being, but simply a non-Buddhist wrathful protector spirit....Is that more or less the root of it?
I'm definitely not a human rights defender :) far from it. I'm just wishing to give another point of view on the ban on Dorje Shugden. There is so much schism within the Buddhist community when there should be harmony. Dorje Shugden himself said that we should not criticise the Dalai Lama and that we should maintain harmony. That makes sense to me!
When I was browsing what to study in Buddhism I came across shugden, but I have much greater respect for H.H Dalai Lama and I agree with his views on the matter, I now practice Yamantaka and have experienced great benefits and great decrease in my anger emotions. I do not believe the great Shikyamuni Buddha would promote anger as a method to attain enlightenment, infact Buddha does not have anger, anger is an emotion that indicates selfishness. Anger also is a barrier for wisdom and burns away one's merits also.
In some regions in India, we also call our ansestor who has done great in his time as deity over a living form. We call them kuldevta. But it is some risky because other beings instead of ancestor or with ancestors may also come. Musical instruments also plays its role in this activity. But people call them as because of love for their ancestors. Or as annual rituals.
That's exactly WHY images of deiries are wrong. The simulacre is confonded with the simulated. Spirituality would higher without the images. It can content with mantras, tantras and yantras for representations.
Theravada Buddhism do not practice spirit worship purely Lord Buddha teaching even there are asuras in Temple to be respected by layman only. Same for Buddhism in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Hong kong. Shamanism is for lay person worship only.
been held by the DL. The lineage is unbroken all the way to vajrayogini the wine seller. Gampopa sp? Je phabongka, recognized as an emanation of chakrasbara ((heruka)), Phabongka passed the lineage to kyabje trijang dorjechang rinpoche. Geshe kelsang gyatso, kyabje's heart disciple. He was the undisputed lineage holder and he didn't pass it to anyone else and he was an emanation of amitabha. Both of these great lamas and their predecessors going back several "generations" were Shugdenite
the Point is, Buddhism is to put the dharma into practice and praying to a Ghost has nothing to do with Buddhism also the historical Buddha has said that we don´t need any Ghosts to realize the dharma and we should only trust ourselfs on the way to enlightenment. If they want to pray to Ghosts or gods why they don´t move to other Religions instead of infiltrate one of the few Religions who can exist without them? I think it was about time to forbid this practice and the Dalai doesn´t smile any problems away he is just consequent and thats something that the Ghostprayers could learn from him, to be consequent instead of relying on anyone or anything, because the only one how can reach enlightment is oneself.
Dorje Shugden is a Buddha and we, his followers, will never go away. I rejoice in your practice, please leave us alone and concentrate on your practice and achieve realizations for all sentient beings (even Dorje Shugden practitioners!) Do you feel that threatened by our practice? Relax. Let things be. It's ok. Try it. You will be more at peace, my friend.
@Varavaken Western practitioners may not suffer the same ostracisation as Tibetan monks in the refugee camps but it doesn't mean that we do not support our Tibetan Sangha who have suffered tremendously because of their faith in Dorje Shugden. Some Westerners are more vocal than others... I'm not one for standing in front of the Albert Hall and scream, but i don't deny them that right. Everyone can express their opinions - that is a democracy, no?
Did you guys hear that the previous Karmapa upon inaugurating a Nyingma Tibetan temple in Kathmandu Nepal was displeased with a statue of Dorje Trollo that had the tiger stepping on what appeared to look like Dorje Shugden. He ordered the statue removed and then when people asked, he said that we don't need to practice it now but later in the future everybody will practice Dorje Shugden! Can you imagine His Holiness the Karmapa saying this?
Re the DS sideshow. Given that all phenomena lack inherent existence how can the DL state DS is this or that when it is merely a manifestation of emptiness? The practice of DS and any results that may arise from it depend purely on the mind of the practitioner.
Hello ik its 6 years ago since you posted this comment but its like saying how can we say that it will hurt us if we stab ourselves with a knife if its all in the heart/mind of the being? It sounds silly when put into this context right? We are all in samsara and yes things like these lack inherent existence but thats through the eyes of beings with that understanding, if a man were to distrupt me everytime im trying to meditate it would cause harm to my cultivation because of my karma and afflictions, it would be silly to say that karma will suddenly break down when we touch emptiness. Its very easy to confuse emptiness with non-exsistence...
Love live his holiness the 14th dalai lama... God bless u from all those evil ppl in the world who are always trying to make harm... God knows who's right n who's not... it is very pity full to see those non Buddhism people's comment for they don't know the actual truth meaning of dharma, samsara and karma... please do not comment negative if u don't know the history clearly...
This fraudulent monk is far from holy, those who are truly holy & reflect truth abstain from consuming the flesh of sentient beings. He believes in reincarnation, yet he consumes flesh (he must love the taste of his ancestors). He's not a Buddha, nor is he holy; he's a demonic rakshasa who promulgates violence & speaks to oracles - this is hypocrisy at it's finest. Amitabha
His Holiness the Dalai Lama deserves the Bharat Ratna No individual of the 20th Century inspired more people than Mahatma Gandhi did. He brought back the Indian tradition of Ahimsa (nonviolence) in the arena of political struggle - an idea that changed the world from civil rights movements in the US to the Solidarity movement in Poland and the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Albert Einstein, another equally prominent figure of the 20th Century, stated that “Generations to come will scarcely believe that such a man as this one, ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.” Despite becoming the most prominent symbol of peace, Mahatma Gandhi was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. There were several hypotheses as to why Norwegian committee members made that omission. One of them was that the Norwegian committee did not want to make the British angry. Whatever the reason/s be, Michael Sohlam, the Executive Director of the foundation, publicly declared that “…We missed a great laureate, and that’s Gandhi. It is a big regret”. Among several world leaders inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet is one of them. His Holiness has said on numerous occasions that he considers himself as Gandhi’s follower. Time magazine named The Dalai Lama as Gandhi’s spiritual heir to nonviolence. In his acceptance speech, when His Holiness was awarded the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, he paid tribute to Gandhi by saying that “the prize is a tribute to the man who founded the modern tradition of nonviolent action for change, Mahatma Gandhi whose life taught and inspired me.” A son of India from the land of snow When speaking to millions of his followers or to a group of small gatherings of influential individuals, His Holiness often identifies himself as a ‘Son of India.’ In his own words, His Holiness said, “I also consider myself as the son of India as every part of my brain cells are filled with ancient Indian knowledge, and my body is because of Indian rice and dal.” Since he escaped from the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, His Holiness has lived in India for about 62 years now. His Holiness’s four principal Commitments - the promotion of human values; promotion of religious harmony; preservation of Tibetan culture; and reviving ancient Indian knowledge based on the Nalanda tradition, fundamentally promote ancient Indian values, are missions which His Holiness has dedicated his life to. Whenever he met with some of the most influential world leaders or the general public, he praised and promoted Indian virtues with utmost sincerity and clarity. No other individual of our time, in my assessment, did more in promoting India’s positive image through the thousand-year tradition of compassion (Karuna) and nonviolence (Ahimsa) around the world than His Holiness The Dalai Lama of Tibet. The world recognized his efforts and awarded him some of the most prestigious awards, such as the Nobel Peace Prize (1989), United States Congressional Gold Medal (2007), and several Honorary citizenships from several countries and Honorary Doctorates from many universities. Bharat Ratna and His Holiness the Dalai Lama Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, has the sole purpose of recognizing individuals who have made “an exceptional service/performance of the highest order in any field of human endeavour.” A number of Indian intellectuals and thinkers have opined that the Tibetan spiritual leader deserves the Bharat Ratna for spreading the message of peace and Karuna all his life. Shanta Kumar, a senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, submitted to the Indian Government a letter signed by the MPs of several political parties recommending Bharat Ratna for Dalai Lama in 2019. A 2021 nationally representative survey conducted in India by IANS indicates that 62% of Indians support the motion of conferring Bharat Ratna to His Holiness. But then why was His Holiness not awarded with Bharat Ratna so far? To put it simply, I would argue that the Indian Government is being over cautious by believing that doing so will trigger a strong response from China. While it may be a practical concern, however, we must be very clear that the purpose of awarding the Bharat Ratna to His Holiness should not be to gain some geopolitical points or to anger China but to recognize His Holiness’s unparalleled contribution toward the promotion of compassion and nonviolence. Awarding Bharat Ratna to His Holiness to gain or send a political message to China, as opined by some politicians, is not just a practically counter-productive but also disgrace to India’s highest civilian award - Bharat Ratna and definitely not a way to honour His Holiness’s exceptional service/performance of the highest order. Does His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet need Bharat Ratna? True to the principle of ‘Nishkam Karma Yoga’ (the Yoga of Selfless Action) from Bhagwat Gita, His Holiness’ work in promoting ancient Indian thoughts as an Indian ambassador around the world is truly devoid of any selfish motives. His sole purpose is to contribute to the well-being of all beings. Bestowing or not bestowing any recognition/awards to him does not make much sense to him personally. But it contributes positively to the work His Holiness does in promoting human values such as compassion (Karuna) and nonviolence (Ahimsa). I agreed with veteran BJP leader Shanta Kumar when he said, “by honouring His Holiness with the Bharat Ratna, India will be honouring itself.” Bestowing Bharat Ratna to His Holiness is actually recognizing the Indian tradition of Karuna (compassion) and Ahimsa (nonviolence). The Nobel committee regretted not awarding Mahatma Gandhi with the Nobel peace prize. It was loss not for Gandhi but for the ideals of Ahimsa (nonviolence). In awarding His Holiness the with the Bharat Ratna, we assure that Karuna (compassion) is honored in the land where its ideals are honored for thousands of years. Let’s make that happen. In fact, whose accomplishment and contribution are more appropriate to be honored with the peepal leaf-shaped medallion engraved with the Lion Capital of Ashoka than that of His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet?
6月2号开示;Dalai lama said.

Lama Zopa adds: The other thing is that in this life, by generating heretical thoughts or anger toward the guru, one experiences heavy sufferings, especially sickness, and many catastrophes, one after the other. Also, when you die, it is in such a terrible way. It is very terrifying, not peaceful, and there is the most unbearable suffering in the hell realms. Not only that, but it lasts for such a length of time, for eons.
The type of social strata practised in Tibet in fact was a benign form of peasant / landowner relationship, with the landowners most often not much better off than the labourers themselves. Indeed, there was a kinship amongst all of the population which was unique to Tibet, and bonded landlord and peasant in a much deeper sense than just their common economic fate.
Oh btw, the Dalai Lama refers to the 5th Dalai Lama's criticism of Dorje Shugden as justification of the ban on DS. However, it is not mentioned here that after the 5th Dalai Lama could not destroy DS through fire pujas and the Hayagriva rituals, the 5th Dalai Lama regretted his actions and began to propitiate him, building a temple to DS, called Trode Kangsar and hand crafting a statue of DS. The 5th Dalai Lama also wrote praises of DS. All these show that the reference has no basis.
“….some, who have fallen under the influence of the demon of partisanship, think and say that this supreme deity, the great emanated Dharmapala, is no different than an ordinary gyalpo or tsen spirit who has an inferior form as a result of being a monk or lay person who died with bad karma. Leave aside relying upon him as a protector, they even deride others who do so. There are some, indeed, who echo such claims knowing nothing about it. Yet all this talk is nothing but babbling speculation. Why? Because this great guardian of the teachings is well known to be the precious supreme emanation from Drepung monastery's upper house, Dragpa Gyaltsen, arising in a wrathful aspect. The proof is unmistaken.” KYABJE TRIJANG DORJE CHANG - Music Delighting The Ocean Of Protectors
I have no confusion over this practice having had clear instructions and all the Dalai Lama has set in motion is pain and suffering, there is no wisdom in that. I pray that all those who cause harm as a result of his words stop!!
@floatinghippos Yes, fair discussion. I understand he has had many teachers, and continues to be taught. If I understood some of his feedback (video etc) on the decision, his decision is based on advice from other teachers as well. In the end, the view of the world, and the type of Buddhism one practices comes down to us. Many switches and changes within policy and politics has always happened in the past as well, including stopping that practice... ...
My opinion is I am warning that if editing is allowed then once 14th Dalai Lama has passed away then people will follow this example & also edit, using Dalai lamas life story as a justification. And the Dalai Lama wont be there to say 'No this was just a one off stick to the lineage' or 'Although I abandoned my teacher Trijang Rinpoche it is not appropriate for you to abandon your teacher'. All there will be is the biography. Then other people will think this is how to practice.AND EDIT
En cuanto al último tema de si algunos lamas practican o no Dorje Shugen, no es tema de discusión. Nadie obliga a nadie a realizar esa práctica sólo se pide la libertad para practicarla a quien la desee, sin ser perseguido por ello.
@tenkobe08 I´m not claiming that Tsem Tulku is a DS practitioner. I know he doesn´t want to be involved in this conflict. But he´s also a follower of Pabongkha (who introduced DS in the Gelug tradition)... And he has friendly relations with Shugden lamas. But I don´t want to jump to any conclusions.
@floatinghippos very unfortunate that he must make such decisions in such a difficult time, yet we must try to have faith in his words and judgement. He does not just wake up one day and decide this, this was a scholarly choice meant to fit in with the difficulties that Tibetan Buddhism must face in the years ahead. Not easy. No easy choices.
Several postwar studies on Nazism and the Occult, such as Trevor Ravenscroft in The Spear of Destiny (1973), have asserted that under the influence of Haushofer and the Thule Society, Germany sent annual expeditions to Tibet from 1926 to 1943. Their mission was first to find and then to maintain contact with the Aryan forefathers in Shambhala and Agharti, hidden subterranean cities beneath the Himalayas

@Varavaken i think u might in doubt! that's a good question . if tsem tulku is not under influence n he will resarch about shukten n fact is automatically come on ground. m sure he will rally opposed to practice. i think ur in doubt don't go blindly on that , u just resarch it n m sure u'll never under shukten. that is my advice. mostly who is working under shukten is under influence or sicking black money frm china!
The Dali lama just proved he is not Avaloketishvara. an enlightened being would be able to determine whether Dorje Shugdan is an enlightened being or a spirit. If the Dali Lama changed his mind on Shugdan, he must either have been mistaken then, or he is mistaken now. No enlightened being could make such a mistake. Thus the entire basis of the man's authority is disproved.
You are right, leed..., "This new attempt to portray NKT as suddenly Dalai Lama-friendly comes too late." WSS is a front. NKT also has close links with the Indian based DS society (Delhi) and the Buddhist Association of China (controlled by CCP).
In Tsongkhapas Lam-rim Chen-mo, it says, Even simply generating non-devotional thought, to think of the guru as an ordinary person, is an obstacle. So, you can imagine what it is like if you generate heresy and anger toward your gurus and criticize them with a negative mind. This is creating the heaviest obstacle to realizations on the path to enlightenment, and the heaviest obstacle even to this lifes happiness, as well as to future lives happiness.
So in this way editing creates a course of events over the next 100s years 1) People think'if all these lineage gurus, senior masters of the last 350years,didnt realise they were doing incorrect practice, they didnt know what they were doing' They were not Enlightened beings. Then the entire lineage is invalidated. 2) That it is acceptable to remove traditional practices Lamas will begin to do remove other instructions. 3) people will abandon the lineage holders and force them to edit.
I think the Shugden Practise is very helpful & powerful that is why they want it seen gone ...because is so effective
gyalpo spirits only cause problems, dorje shugden is exactly that and so far i can see that kelsang gyatso is possessed by that spirit

*All that His Holyness The 14th Dalai Lama is saying is 100% Correct. Also please don't practice (Dolgyal) shugden worship or go near the NKT Cult.*
Didn't the Dalai Lama consult Dorje Shugden when he was about to exit Tibet in 1959 in order to get out safely?
consulting is NOT worshipping .
Why are you twisting so much ?

If one understands properly the function of protector deity practice there is no issue. The truth is that the D L speaking out against this practice which has been passed down to him through the most venerated spiritual guides has produced vast amounts of suffering for many people. Those who see him as the leader of Buddhist teachings (this is not the case but he is in a position of great authority) have acted on those words and created violence and hatred against many Tibetans in particular.
Thank you his holiness for leading us to go on true path of buddha dharma.Long Live your holiness!

You fell for their line.

Amazon.com Review
As a primer on living the good life, few books compete with How to Practice, another profound offering from the exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Westerners may be confused by the book's title, assuming that it focuses solely on Buddhist meditation and prayer techniques. Though it does address meditation and prayer, at its core this is a book that demonstrates how day-to-day living can be a spiritual practice. There are two ways to create happiness:
The first is external.
--Gail Hudson

To Practice Peace and Kindness
By Robin Friedman HALL OF FAMETOP 100 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on March 28, 2002
This book by H.H. the Dalai Lama may be read by those wishing an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism and by those wishing to begin or develop their practice.
Much of this material the Dalai Lama also covers in an earlier book called "The Meaning of Life."
There is a concluding section on Tantra, a uniquely Tibetan practice.

Buddhism for Beginners
By E. Thompson on March 19, 2002
I am completely new to Buddhism and am thoroughly impressed by the Dalai Lama's clear, simple explanation.

Multi leveled book for practicing Buddhists
By Tom Perigrin on August 6, 2005
This is not really an introductory Buddhist text, although the previous reviews suggest that some (but not all) non-Buddhists have gained by reading it.
And that too is the nature of Buddhism - it is both so huge and ulitmately so simple.

why don't you investigate and not be an outsider, then you will understand
If you dont believe dalai lama then live in your home happily snd worship shugden.dalai lama just say who follow shugden dont make spritual contact with him.whats wrong in that .give some personal right to his holiness.
Their homes were attacked and raided and were forced to flee.
People being banned from hospitals and schools is too much.
Honestly, I don't feel one way or the other about Shugden practice but mainly because I'm not too informed as to what it's about. This is the most straightforward answer I've gotten from a Tricycle article.
www.tricycle.com/feature/letting-daylight-magic-the-life-and-times-dorje-shugden
The so-called Drakpa Gyaltsen* pretends to be a sublime being. But since this interfering spirit and creature of distorted prayers Is harming everything, both dharma and sentient beings, Do not support, protect or give him shelter, but grind him to dust.
- The Fifth Dalai Lama (1617-1682)
*The Drakpa Gyaltsen was the Fifth Dalai Lama's rival.
Yes this is an important point, we also should have compassion for them.
Tenzin Trinley . . . I understand your confusion. "Love is the Crowning Glory of Understanding."

Thank-you.
+parasu108 Thank you for saying that.
Wow, thank you for the genuine explanation.
Thank you his holiness for lovely speech
A prayer by HH 14th Dalai Lama to Dorje Shugden:
HUM
Glory of the wisdom, compassion and power of infinite Buddhas
Miraculously powerful protector of Manjusri Tsongkhapas Teachings
Arisen as a lord of all wrathful worldly hosts
Come from the abodes of Tushita, Kechara, and so forth!

Re: "Guru Padmasambhava himself gave prophecies of a time when Tibet will divide and fall apart when people start worshipping spirits."
That is correct. The ancient prophecy of Padmasambhava was clearly fulfilled.
"When horses run on wheels, and the iron bird flies in the sky, the Tibetans will be scattered like ants across the Earth and the Buddhist teaching will come tothe land of the Red Man."
That is what happened. A thousand years later.
All we ask is to be able to say our prayers and follow the advice of our Spiritual Guides without fear of persecution, ostracism, and abuse.
Why is it so hard for a Buddhist leader to agree to this?
I tried to read all this thread .... it seems to me that the point has been missed , that buddhism and the dalai lama are about peace ... a peaceful mind .. and in the end the end to all suffering ... all i see here is anger , judgement , hatred , and confused minds .. at least we should all aim to do no harm to others .. rant over
tell Dalai Lama that as he starte this bs
that is a perfect example in how do i destroy all the faith ppl have in the position of a Dalai Lama , he already declared that he might be the last one and we will get the second Karmapa , recognized by the Dalai Lama but not from our side , he has divided our lineage ( i tried not to say destroy it but that´s what i think ) .
if we want to keep the precious teachings of this religion we have to go back to the roots and re establish our way towards liberation and the tools for that goal .
Not one bit, delusional
Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!"
(V Dalai Lama)
Thank you very much for publishing this video! It is a great joy to see and hear againg HHDL's wisdom and humour!
ridiculous to hear NKT and other Shugden practicing traditions described as cults. there is nothing essentially unique to NKT and certainly no belief that describes other traditions as 'false'.

@@Christina-fb8vh ok so by your logic, any guru-based traditions are cults. Including followers of the Dalai Lama. I’m not a member of the NKT so it doesn’t really concern me too much. I would encourage you to examine your own beliefs. Are you actually in a cult?
PS. Read the comments on *this* video. Totally stuff people in cults say. “Oh thank you oh righteous leader!!”

Though His Holiness a compassionate and loving master, he needs to be tough as foremost leader of Buddhist world to keep Buddha's teaching intact and pure... no one can tolerate adulation in Buddha's teaching.
kunchok Sonam Dorje shugen was practice by Tibetans monks long before this wolf in Buddha clothing is born what gives him the right to ban Dorje shugen from been practice by these traditions which has been pass down by those great masters Lama before him his action have caused millions of suffering and blood flow dividing monks and Tibetans and creating hatred against each other by banning Dorje shugen
Buddha would not have done this according to his teaching he would have give his blessing and carry on with his Darma to right the wrong without bad blood , what Dalai Lama doing is too cruelty for humanity he is not fit to be a monk
Many of Tibet's practices were not done by the Buddha. Should be get rid of them all?
i don´t get your point in relation to the topic discussed here
BioStuff415 Buddha teaching is to respect all being and those who believe in gods he never instigated anyone to believe in his beliefs which can cause hatred.
ZionRebirth .Tello
Re: "the issue is in misunderstanding".
*****
Re: "We are waiting for the current Dalai Lama to follow the example of the Fifth [ Dalai Lama ]".

A previous (100th) Ganden Tripa (Head of the Geluga Order), Lobsang Nyingma Rinpoche, stated:
“If it [Shugden] were a real protector, it should protect the people.

We -Vietnamese love and support Dalai Lama
and Chinese Beijing should stop their Black Hand to divide Tibetan
Chinese Beijing destroyed mostly Tibetan monasteries but they ecourage and forces Tibetan follow Shugden. So ironly !
Than Nau
Yes, it is ironic.
@CT2507
you said the dalai lama banned it, not me! but actually you're allowed to practice it, therefore there is no ban
thats not hypocrisy, that is a fact! and another fact is, that you're lying, since you claim there is a ban, so stop lying??
@MrLiberal91
For heaven´s sake - the Dalai Lama IS the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism,( four schools, five with the Bön tradition).
Gyabsuchee.
I feel deepy sad 😞…..i pray ur family is doing well…..please recall the dharma and purify it
Trijang Rimpoche and all the great lineage gurus that passed down these instructions were not wrong as would be the case if one followed the DL's angle on this! This issue shows that mixing politics and dharma is the wrong way to go and that keeping pure motivations is.
"I invite you with faith, please come to this place!" (V Dalai Lama)
For one I am not a 'Buddhist in any formal way although I subscribe to its philosophy and believe in the Man who Awoke, who spent his life teaching the Dharma..both to gods and men...who through his life and teachings has helped me tremendously to find my center and my heart. That is all I need...The Tathaga..and the Dharmakaya I do not believe that worshiping any man as a god is productive, I think that he is just trying to eliminate a practice that gets in the way of true enlightenment...
@CT2507
The spiritual leader of TB is the Dalai Lama.
Tibetans inside and outside Tibet have faith in him.
The Dalai Lama is fully supported in his view by the monastic communities.
That´s the way it is, whether you like it or not.
"And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels! "
(V Dalai Lama)
You are lying. The fifth Dalai Lama composed of praising Shugden as a Buddha manjushri and he offered a Tote temple to Dorje Shugden. Why don’t you mentioned these things???
@CT2507
i think this is too far behind to find out
the question should be: why was Geshe Kelsang Gyatso expelled from the monastery???
lets research that?
I have not tried to force anyone to believe anything. I am simply educating you. If you refuse to listen, then that is your concern, not mine.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Long live H.H. Dalai Lama
@CT2507
what does a ban mean to you?? that you're not allowed to practice it? then there is no ban, right? :)
Amitabha
@Varavaken and they have done so for hundreds of years?! why haven't the former leaders and Karmapas banned the practice of DS?
His Holiness the Dalai Lama deserves the Bharat Ratna
No individual of the 20th Century inspired more people than Mahatma Gandhi did. He brought back the Indian tradition of Ahimsa (nonviolence) in the arena of political struggle - an idea that changed the world from civil rights movements in the US to the Solidarity movement in Poland and the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Albert Einstein, another equally prominent figure of the 20th Century, stated that “Generations to come will scarcely believe that such a man as this one, ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.”
Despite becoming the most prominent symbol of peace, Mahatma Gandhi was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
In his acceptance speech, when His Holiness was awarded the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, he paid tribute to Gandhi by saying that “the prize is a tribute to the man who founded the modern tradition of nonviolent action for change, Mahatma Gandhi whose life taught and inspired me.”
A son of India from the land of snow
When speaking to millions of his followers or to a group of small gatherings of influential individuals, His Holiness often identifies himself as a ‘Son of India.’ In his own words, His Holiness said, “I also consider myself as the son of India as every part of my brain cells are filled with ancient Indian knowledge, and my body is because of Indian rice and dal.” Since he escaped from the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, His Holiness has lived in India for about 62 years now.
Bharat Ratna and His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, has the sole purpose of recognizing individuals who have made “an exceptional service/performance of the highest order in any field of human endeavour.” A number of Indian intellectuals and thinkers have opined that the Tibetan spiritual leader deserves the Bharat Ratna for spreading the message of peace and Karuna all his life.
DL isn't the lineage holder. He has stained Je Tsongkhapa's stainless doctrine. Dorje shugden is a dharma protector but his vows lie with the Gedan tradition . The Pancen Lama is Amitabha(avalokitishvara /chenrezig's spiritual guide. Je Phabongka, kyabje trijang dorjechang rinchope, and Geshe kelsang gyatso rinpoche are
Lama Zopa adds: The other thing is that in this life, by generating heretical thoughts or anger toward the guru, one experiences heavy sufferings, especially sickness, and many catastrophes, one after the other.

🙏🙏🙏
@VoidDeluxe
what do you mean with western china?
The proof is unmistaken.”
KYABJE TRIJANG DORJE CHANG - Music Delighting The Ocean Of Protectors
I have no confusion over this practice having had clear instructions and all the Dalai Lama has set in motion is pain and suffering, there is no wisdom in that. I pray that all those who cause harm as a result of his words stop!!
@CT2507
Why on earth are you talking about the 16th Karmapa?
What is your point???
❤❤❤
@tenkobe08
I´m not claiming that Tsem Tulku is a DS practitioner.
La información que adjunté, la puedes encontrar en la página web de la Western Shugden Society, concretamente en el enlace reportajes especiales, en las páginas en español.
Es una web llena de información, que te recomiendo la leas con detenimiento.
Delhi High Court dismisses Dorje Shugden Devotees´charges.
(april 5, 2010)
@CT2507 what do you mean by self realized?
You are right, leed..., "This new attempt to portray NKT as suddenly Dalai Lama-friendly comes too late."
WSS is a front.
So in this way editing creates a course of events over the next 100s years
1) People think'if all these lineage gurus, senior masters of the last 350years,didnt realise they were doing incorrect practice, they didnt know what they were doing' They were not Enlightened beings. Then the entire lineage is invalidated.
2) That it is acceptable to remove traditional practices Lamas will begin to do remove other instructions.
3) people will abandon the lineage holders and force them to edit.
