- Playing a great old song on a borrowed '63 Gibson. Trying to play a slow ballad, while being filmed, to an anemic sounding backing track might be the hardest thing ever on guitar.

Such pretty playing … not so easy to do even though it sounds way easy… it’s that feel he has … very soulful smoothness and what I call patience playing … like a crooner’s voice ❤
Restraint is SUPER tough for many musicians, but when it's done artfully, it's divine...and you nailed it.
Beautiful Jack. At 79 that is my style I want to play🙏
Thanks for the encouragement 👍. Are you giving lessons?

Playing the right notes > all the notes 🫡
Very tasty. Dope guitar too. 😎 it deserves to be played by a superb musician like you.
Great ballad playing. People think playing super fast is hard, but I always find a really slow tune to be more difficult. Every note counts and a wrong note has to get covered quickly or it'll stick out like the proverbial dog's b@ll$. That guitar sounds fantastic, too.
You're the king of feel my friend. I've seen you rip during live performances. Like others have mentioned, restraint, breath between phrases, just the right amount of touch and subtle vibrato, this piece is a masterclass in that
Right in the feels. That was lovely.
That's some perfect elevator music right there
LOL...yeah, an elevator that only goes up?
thanks jack...for not overplaying this beautiful ballad. so many can't seem to help themselves and over-complicate this piece at a slow temp like this rendition, with pyrotechnics that's spoil this beautiful tune. your laid-back style is much appreciated.
DOUBLE DITTO
Just pure class, every single note exactly what's perfect at that moment. Blown away thanks for sharing.
A beautiful application of concepts such as tasteful chromatic approaches to target notes for arpeggios that you consistently teach. Shows where following you can lead.
New guitar! Sounds even better than it looks.
Class!
Sounds great man! Tasty Notes. Love the track.
Not a single unwanted noise, I wish my playing was this clean, but after 20 years of sloppy noodling I'm not sure I could ever fix it
Well done Jack! 😏
There's a million players around the world taking on that Jazz standard on UA-cam, Jack but you just wiped the fkn floor with them all.
In all my years, that is the first time I've sat at listened to every note with real feelings it induced.
Your simplicity is your super power, my brother.
Too many Jazz experts try to overplay that song.
Beautiful, graceful and tasteful, Jack.
We're all fortunate to have subscribed to your channel, as a front row seat, so we can experience 'the nearness of your' playing, Jack. 😉
Beautiful playing!
So very tasteful👏👏😁… phrasing, tone, touch… well done!
Amazing thanks, wondering what pick gauge in mm you use?
My brother has that exact same guitar, same year too. He bought it when it was new. Sounds good Jack, nice playing.
Sweet Love it!
J'aimerais trop savoir jouer comme toi, placer toutes les notes que tu places, toujours au bon endroit !! Tu es trop fort, merci pour ces belles vidéos que tu nous fais !! 😊
Is the backing track available?
Jim
Sounds pretty good to me.
this is what life time dedication looks like
Beautiful and artfully restrained! It that was me I’d have exploded mid way with unnecessary licks!
❤
Pretty stupendous. I wouldn't worry about the B-3 backing track. This Hoagy Carmichael- Ned Washington tune is one of the greats. You must be familiar with the Michael Brecker version, with James Taylor singing - and an illustrious assemblage supporting.. Your approach is on a par with that one.
Excellent interpretation Jack. On this video you apply all of the great ideas and techniques you have been talking about on the your tutorial videos. I have been following you and have learned a lot. Thank you for your teaching.
Hi Jack, just got your course on The Magic Triads. Hope you can do a lesson on “The Nearness of You” or any jazz ballad using triads for improvisation. :)
music to fall asleep to lol
Beautifully melodic as always. I can’t play real fast but it’s even harder to play real slow. Being patient is tough when the impulse is to fill every pause with something.
flawless 👍
Awesome
So smooth!
The Nearness of Muse -- by Jack Ruch.
Wow!! You would make Jim Hall proud!
Tasty! 63 looks good on you!
Oh man! The tone in your hands 😍
Can you share the chord progression please👍
Jim
Pretty sure it's in The Real Book v6 or one of them, anyway---I don't know where my copies are at the moment. It's a Hoagy Carmichael tune.
@@crimfan I have the Real Book, thanks, I’ll check it
@@jwegreyhounds It might be in V2 or V3... can't recall.
Smoooooth Jack!!
Beautiful.
Beautiful
Wow, Jack
