Hi there, thanks for contacting HP Global Social Media Support! I am here to help! Yes, it will format everything so make sure you make a backup on an external device. Let me know! Regards, HP Support
+9250-Gorde Shubhamkar A system recovery completely erases all files, programs, and saved work on the hard drive. Always back up important information before attempting a recovery. If additional hard drives are connected to the computer, for example an HP Media Drive, disconnect the data and power cables from the back of the extra drive before performing a system recovery. This prevents possible data loss on the additional drive.
Hi Luca, thanks for contacting! I understand that you are experiencing a blue screen issue. I will do my best to assist you. Please try using HP cloud recovery tool as mentioned here to fix the issue: bit.ly/3eEeaGZ Binu - Social Media Tech Support
Hi HP Support! I have a very curious question. I have done this system recovery process many times before without and with removing the recovery media as stated in the video... What exactly is the purpose of removing the recovery media? Through my trials I guess it takes much longer than usual with the recovery media attached all the time until the whole process is complete... Please elaborate on this simple matter as it apparently has a huge impact on the process time wise.
During the process on my laptop it only says remove what is not needed and keep the media you only need, HOW in the whole wide world would I know whether or not to keep the recovery media attached or not during the whole process??? There is no indication of that in the process!!!
+Airon Maxslade.SmirkyJuggler79 I understand that you want to know the reason for removing recovery media while performing a system recovery. If the recovery media is not removed, the recovery process will reboot to the first recovery screen and start over
At what point can the USB recovery stick be removed? I have everything installed(W10 pro & updates) but showing a few failures. It currently reads, 0x800705b4. I had similar issues on other computers but a tech in the community told me to leave it in until all was complete but has yet to answer back on this particular problem. I'm on the desktop and most up dates installed, some installed updates are ready and need a restart which I was going to do but I'm afraid if I pull the USB recovery out and reboot there maybe issues. Any suggestions? @@HPComputingSupport
+Tanmaya Raj Behera This option reformats the system drive (usually C:), reinstalls the original operating system, and reinstalls all the original hardware drivers and software.
I have a hp notebook 15-f211wm I got the recovery usb from hp and when I go through the steps everything looks good it will flash the administration screen then the pc will reset and when it comes back I get a ctoerror and the note pad says something about the image I have tried reinstalling several times I have also had the hard drive replaced still the same thing
I have a question, after you get the confirmation screen that the recovery process is complete, when using a recovery USB drive from HP, will you see the computer boot logo again, or will it go right to the "windows is loading files screen?
Okay I have done this and still get the same thing Factory Image recovery preparations I have tried it twice before watching the video and the only thing that was different was your video showing HP Recovery Manager that is something I am not getting. Your instructions states 2-3 hours but it has taken longer than that. So I watch the video and tried again and still the same thing I started at 1:30 and it is now 5 it is just sitting on the same page saying coping files needed to restore hard drive. Called your service desk and was told I need to pay $30 then another $14 for monthly HP service tech to help me with my setup issues. But I just spent $58 on the recovery flash drive that at one point in time was something that came with the computer but I guess it is another way to squeeze out money. I am not very happy right now.
I have the same problem. I have an envy notebook. I got the usb drive from hp did the factory setting steps. When I got to the last window with the finish button I click it and it turns off the notebook. I take off the usb and boots boot device not found. Even I leave the usb in the notebook after its done with the factory restore it loops the process over and over. The factory restores takes maybe like less then 5 minutes. According to the papers they sent me with the usb it says it takes hours for this to finish. But I don't understand the process takes minutes and yet boots me in a loop no matter what I do.
+Peter B With recovery disc you can Reformat the system drive, Reinstall the original operating system and Reinstall original hardware drivers and software.
thats what i'd love to know, as the stock HDD in my laptop was starting to fail and i bought a SSD to replace it, did a bit by bit clone of all partitions of the stock HDD and the HP recovery manager complains that it cant install from the HDD. but at least i was able to install a fresh install of windows onto the stock HDD to clone over.
+Theresa Horton Yes it does work on old pc and on Compaq desktop if those computers. If the computer you have is less than 5 years old you can get the recovery media from HP. You can order the recovery media from HP phone support: hp.care/2oEj8Fb
My Compaq desktop is 10 yrs old and it just got unsupported a few months ago. That means I cannot get the drivers or the recovery media from my computer.
+Theresa Horton HP maintains an inventory of replacement recovery kits for several years after the product has been released. However, because of licensing restrictions, HP is only able to provide these recovery kits for a limited time. If the computer is several years past its warranty period, HP might not be able to supply replacement discs for your computer. If this is the case, you can install a new operating system that meets the minimum system requirements of your computer, or, alternatively, upgrade your computer hardware. Obtaining HP Recovery Discs: hp.care/2t64HML
I have made a Recovery USB stick which should be able to reinstall the system on my brand NEW Harddrive. I have booted it and choose System Recovery. It finalized it seemed like, BUT it does not boot up ;( --btw yes i did change in the BIOS after the Recovery USB stick finished! What have I forgot? why does it now boot from the disk??
+Dje in DK this could be cause the recovery soft is corrupted in the USB Recovery Media you have created or it could be a hardware issue as well. I suggest you try to do a BIOS default first and then use this guided troubleshooter: bit.ly/2qDBies to further troubleshoot the issue.
I already did a BIOS default. Now 2nd time I did a Factory Default installation it booted into Win7....but now I have the problem it wont do Windows Updates. It says the service is not running for some reason. What do i try next?
+Dje in DK Windows Update error “Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer” probably occurs when Windows temporary update folder (SoftwareDistribution folder) is corrupted. To easily fix this error, follow the below steps Download the Microsoft Fix It utility to your computer from bit.ly/2mcDqVJ Run Microsoft Fix It tool and press “Accept”.Select “Detect problems and apply the fixes for me (Recommended)” option. Let the troubleshooter to fix Windows Update problems and press “Next” Let me know how that works.
Hi. I got new laptop ( HP - OMEN ) in 2017 with software installed, it worked fine for a year then it got slow as I had installed and uninstalled many software, so I installed other windows 10 without wiping off other drives. but that windows is terrible. NOW if I perform recovery partition installation, will it take my laptop to factory settings ? or to the time when I did windows installation? I desperately need factory settings back. I need to refresh my laptop.
+Maryam Qindeel Recovery will take the laptop back to the original factory settings. It will erase all the data from the computer and refresh the original operating system that came along with the computer.
4:15 at this phase, it ends and a prompt message pop ups and it says that the Reset didn't work. What should I do? I have an hp omen 880 and I got a USB sent me from HP directly.
@@HPSupport let's clear that I have windows 10,but still it doesn't work. I have tried to get into BIOS too, to change those options like the guide says (and by the way the options were already enabled like in the guide). Still it doesn't work. Anyways when I try to boot the pc and I select the sources I have two options in UEFI: ST2000DM001-1ER164 TOSHIBA MSFT NORB PMAP that Toshiba option its enlisted in Hard Disk as well like this: Hard disk: SATA1 TOSHIBA MSFT NORB PMAP i have tried them both, in UEFI and Hard disk since I suppose this Toshiba is the pen drive provided by Hp (the last reset I have done its more than 2 years ago). It makes all the process basically, but then at the end, I guess, it says failure with 3 options LOG - TRY AGAIN - and another one I can't remember now, maybe it was Detail but I'm not sure. Can you please kindly help me? P. S. Basically as I stated already my reset process stops at 4:15 as shown in the video. That's the last step that It can get.
Got a new HP laptop today and it already has a local drive "Recovery" of 16 GB. Is that the same recovery which is shown in your video or do I have to create another in usb flash drive just like you. Please Reply
+Shubham Sawant Yes. It is the same. You can use a recovery USB drive to start your computer in case of a problem. The drive also contains Windows system recovery tools that can help you recover Windows from a serious error or restore your computer from a system image. HP strongly recommends that you create recovery discs or create a recovery USB flash drive as soon as you receive your computer. Please refer this document for more information: bitly.com/2OR367p
I have a HP620 with manufacturer installed Windows 7. I want to factory reset the machine, however it does not have hp factory reset in windows, F11 is does also not work during setup. I have made a boot up USB but it still says the drive does not work. I have also tried to make a usb start up disc with microsoft on my windows code, but it says the code belongs to a manufacturer, obviously HP. Can you please advise me what other ways I can try to factory reset my HP620 with windows 7. (i obviously dont have the windows 7 disc) Standing by for your feedback.

+suhas bhandary Yes it does format the entire hard disk drive during the recovery process that is why it is recommended to backup your important data before initiating recovery.
+suhas bhandary Recovery is divided into two phases. In the first phase it formats the computer and in the second phase, it re-installs the Operating system. If you have data backup concerns, on the recovery process itself it gives you a data backup option but there is no guarantee for that. Another way is he can try "Reset this PC" option instead of recovery. In that, it will give the option to "Keep my files" Just in case it is recommended to backup your important data before initiating the recovery.
I have backup my hp recovery partition using hp recovery manager 2 years ago. After that the file which was stored in usb flash drive, I copied and past to another external hard drive and formatted my usb flash drive. After some month I have flash install of Windows 10. And then all the recovery partition and hp recovery manager has gone. I used with that Windows 10 for month, it doesn't work fine and then I again flash windows 10 in my laptop. I start doing this again and again whenever my pc doesn't work fine. Right now I am frustrated with this and want to factory reset my laptop but I couldn't do so.. but still I have those file stored in my external hard drive and I want to do factory reset to my hp laptop. Is there any way I can use those file and start doing factory reset. I tried this by copying those file back to the usb flash drive but when I went to the boot section, I couldn't see any usb flash drive option. I know I can just do it my downloading recovery image file using hp cloud recovery. But I don't have much internet to download all those huge size of system image I want some help. Can anyone help me please? 🥺 I know it was my fault to do all this but I have learnt my lesson and want to bring my old good laptop back. Please anyone help me please 🙏🙏😭😭😭
@@HPSupport Hello sir/mam, thank you so much for replying me back and tried to help me out. I tried to do that what you said by installing hp cloud recovery tool but when it comes to "system information page" on that software, it shows "Product ID is Not match or Invalid. Check the "I need to enter Product ID for my HP system" and manually fill product ID in." And I tried to fill my product ID manually but it again shows that same message after manually filling my laptops product ID. I checked my product ID five to six times from the official hp sticker placed bottom side of my laptop where the model and product ID is written and I tried to fill it again and again but it shows the same message. I checked my laptop's product ID from system information on "system sku" part but it again shows the same message on that software. So I haven't fill any wrong or invalid product ID but why is this happening? Here's the details of my laptop:- 1. Product ID: K8T99PA#ACJ 2. Model: HP 15-r203TU I would be highly appreciate if you reply me back 🥺🙏

I have a problem. After the fresh installation of HP Recovery usb, everything is as it should be, until I turn on windows update. I install the drivers for the graphics card, but after restarting they do not work, the light on the screen is dimmed and the laptop behaves as if there are no such drivers. Likewise, windows update installs system version 21H1,only for 20H1 and older, and there are no drivers for that system version on the HP drivers website. I do not know what to do?

A couple of weeks ago my computer which used Windows 7 and was upgraded to Windows 10 froze for a whole day; and when it got logged out and I tried shutting it down, it took forever to shut down. You know how the screen immediately goes black when you click Shut Down on Windows 10? When I clicked Shut Down, the screen did not go black until a full minute after. Then when I turned back on the computer, the computer just went to system recovery thing. Is there a way to just do the system recovery without doing a factory reset?
I'm installing from a USB drive which I created when I first got the computer but I get System Recovery greyed out, does that mean my back up is not good?
Hello HP Support Team! I have a ZBook g3 15 laptop and last month the hdd broke and I bought an ssd replacement and windows 10 OS. Now I would like to install windows 7 on my laptop. I went to a HP webpage and downloaded a Cloud recovery Client. After installattion of the recovery client I created (downoaded) windows 7 with all drivers for my HP Zbook g3. For some reason I am not able to perform a usb recovery. I was trying different BIOS settigs but with no result. According to some info online the Zbook G3 has a Skyake 6th generation chipsets and USB 3 drives, but windows 7 does not support USB 3 at download stage. I am confused. I assumed that if I download HP Recovery Client and then make USB recovery windows 7 + drivers for my specific model of laptop, it should work. How can I install windows 7 on my laptop?

+julani mcrae recovery drive is not a separate physical storage drive to store data, it is called recovery driver cause the software known as recovery manager is saved in the recovery drive to help recover the pc to its defaults factory settings and when you run a recovery the entire hard disk drive gets formatted that's why you need to use an external storage device to back up your important data.

Hi, My PC won't boot and I had to follow the above process. I did a backup on a USB drive and I tried to restore the files after the recovery was completed. Unfortunately, once the progress bar hits 100%, I get "Insert disc. Insert 2 disc" message and I'm unable to proceed with the restore. There is not disc 2 and I'm unable to restore the files. Please help.

+Beautifulgirl Avakin Official This document explains how to reset the computer to its original factory shipped state by performing a USB system recovery: hp.care/2tbIujF
+Lewis Beal See if this works...assuming you made the bootable windows flash drive correctly... You must plug the flash drive into the PC's USB 2 port. With the usb drive plugged into the USB2 port, restart the PC and tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP wlecome screen to get the various menu of options. Select the F9 boot options menu from the list and then select the USB Diskette on Key/USB hard Disk and hit the enter key. Then the PC should boot from the W10 installation flash drive. When you get to the install screen, you will be given two options...enter a product key (which you don't have), or check the box labeled 'I don't have a product key: bit.ly/2p9S4Qj
+Azlan Playz If you are referring to factory resetting the hard drive to its original out of the box condition, you need to be tapping the F11 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen. Tapping the F10 key and resetting the BIOS to its defaults, just resets the BIOS settings to their defaults, not the operating system and programs that came with your notebook.
+Azlan Playz That signposts to me this could be a Graphic Driver problem. Please try Using HP Recovery Manager tool to Restore Software and Drivers. Let me know how it goes.
+Azlan Playz HP maintains an inventory of replacement recovery kits for several years after the product has been released. However, because of licensing restrictions, HP is only able to provide this recovery media to perform system factory reset, Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive: hp.care/2oPLmPK
+Azlan Playz if system image OS is corrupted, you may not able to perform system recovery or factory reset. If system image is gone bad, you will need to perform a clean install of Windows. Using system recovery media.
Did the discs themselves fail or was there some other error during the installation? Did the recovery media start the process at all? Did you do any hardware diagnostics on your computer to rule out that issue? HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8) ( ow.ly/ZW2WN ).
6 months back i always get bootmgr error in middle of recovery process but yesterday i try to run the recovery manager using HP recovery disc ( order from HP), but recovery manager doesn't start at all.
I have been trying to do the recover process for months since buying the usb recover thing from you. I get to the point of "Copying files required to restore Hard Drive" and it just sits there at 10 or 11%. This is so frustrating. This laptop is 2 years old and has maybe 30 hours used on it at most. Now I am obviously gonna have to go to a tech and pay hundreds. Why won't it complete the process?????
Thank you so much....for the explanation....So helpfully. I wish HP will get termendous profit.....all time

Hi , hp does this process of factory reset is same for hp laptops also??
Pls reply.
+Vishal Thakur Yes. The steps are same for HP laptops also.
Can I save my personal files on the laptop's hard drive(i.e. volume E)?
+9250-Gorde Shubhamkar A system recovery completely erases all files, programs, and saved work on the hard drive. Always back up important information before attempting a recovery. If additional hard drives are connected to the computer, for example an HP Media Drive, disconnect the data and power cables from the back of the extra drive before performing a system recovery. This prevents possible data loss on the additional drive.

+Chins MUSIC It is nice to hear you liked it.
good job
+TheBestOfAntonio You're welcome!!!
How long does software installation phase typically take?
+Shiven Sharma System Restore can take up to 30=45 minutes.
If the recovery media is not removed, the recovery process will reboot to the first recovery screen and start over
HP Computing Support Thanks alot!! The reply was very helpful and insightful! Much appreciated.

Will it format only c drive or entire hard disk ? Please reply
+Supergamer 1 In recovery process system will restart several times, once final setup is completed system will reboot with HP logo
I am not very happy right now.
can you pls write a link where you can get recovery kits
I have the same problem. I have an envy notebook. I got the usb drive from hp did the factory setting steps. When I got to the last window with the finish button I click it and it turns off the notebook. I take off the usb and boots boot device not found. Even I leave the usb in the notebook after its done with the factory restore it loops the process over and over. The factory restores takes maybe like less then 5 minutes. According to the papers they sent me with the usb it says it takes hours for this to finish. But I don't understand the process takes minutes and yet boots me in a loop no matter what I do.
Hi, the recovery media contains the operating system? or just the applications and programs?
+Peter B With recovery disc you can Reformat the system drive, Reinstall the original operating system and Reinstall original hardware drivers and software.
How do I backup or copy the recover partition to another external hdd in case of internal hdd failure?
thats what i'd love to know, as the stock HDD in my laptop was starting to fail and i bought a SSD to replace it, did a bit by bit clone of all partitions of the stock HDD and the HP recovery manager complains that it cant install from the HDD. but at least i was able to install a fresh install of windows onto the stock HDD to clone over.
Would this work for an omen prebuilt?
+Jayden A03 Yes. You can try the steps mentioned in the video on your unit.
Thank you SO much. I thought I messed my HP up. I was SO scared
+KoalaityGaming I am glad to know that the video has helped you fix the issue.
how long for the factory reset to finish and load windows?
It depends on the spreed of the computer.
Will this work on old PCs? And will this work on Compaq desktops?

--btw yes i did change in the BIOS after the Recovery USB stick finished!

@@HPSupport let's clear that I have windows 10,but still it doesn't work.
I have tried to get into BIOS too, to change those options like the guide says (and by the way the options were already enabled like in the guide). Still it doesn't work. Anyways when I try to boot the pc and I select the sources I have two options in UEFI:
ST2000DM001-1ER164
TOSHIBA MSFT NORB PMAP
that Toshiba option its enlisted in Hard Disk as well like this:
Hard disk:
SATA1
TOSHIBA MSFT NORB PMAP
i have tried them both, in UEFI and Hard disk since I suppose this Toshiba is the pen drive provided by Hp (the last reset I have done its more than 2 years ago). It makes all the process basically, but then at the end, I guess, it says failure with 3 options
LOG - TRY AGAIN - and another one I can't remember now, maybe it was Detail but I'm not sure.
USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 does it matter which you insert the media creation?
Hi HP Support.....will this recovery formats whole hard disk?? :-) ....Thanks in advance.
+suhas bhandary Yes it does format the entire hard disk drive during the recovery process that is why it is recommended to backup your important data before initiating recovery.
HP Computing Support Thank you sir... :-)
HP Computing Support Is there any other way to re Install Os without backup.....??.. Thanks again :-)
In that, it will give the option to "Keep my files"
Just in case it is recommended to backup your important data before initiating the recovery.
+suhas bhandary You're welcome :)

Hi hp support I have a problem with my windows 10 os i.e I need to enter a command explorer.exe Everytime during the reboot, I like to backup it in a USB drive and reinstall it. I have doubt that backing up os with a problem will also affect the backup os with same problem.
Since my recovery drive is not working, it say that disabled recovery partition.

Hi, I wish to replace my mechanical HDD with SSD on my HP Pavilion DV6 laptop. If I recover the laptop's OEM Windows7 onto a USB stick using "Recovery Manager", will it then allow me to reinstall this OEM Windows 7 onto the new SSD? Please help.
+Rahul Goyal The Recovery Discs or the USB recovery media is exactly what you'll need in order to reinstall the operating system.
What's the point on having the recovery drive if your saving the backup on another drive?
+julani mcrae recovery drive is not a separate physical storage drive to store data, it is called recovery driver cause the software known as recovery manager is saved in the recovery drive to help recover the pc to its defaults factory settings and when you run a recovery the entire hard disk drive gets formatted that's why you need to use an external storage device to back up your important data.
HP Computing Support where can I get one
+julani mcrae If you want a recovery media you need to contact the HP phone support: hp.care/2oEj8Fb
HP Computing Support do you know roughly how much they cost?

What about my adobe photoshop cs3 ? Is it list too?

Can you use your own USB
+The Phantom Gamer You can use a blank, high-quality USB flash drive no greater than 32GB and displays as an external device in Windows.
Wait can I use a Seagate USB hard drive with 2 terabytes to copy my files that are at least 155gb?
Also what do you do when it says "Destination device not found"?
+The Phantom Gamer File in history folder is corrupted or unmovable, If an individual file is identified with the error, delete the affected file from x:\Seagate Backup\History folder on the external drive. If an individual file is not identified then it may be necessary to run Windows error checking on the external drive or delete the x:\Seagate Backup\History folder and run a fresh backup, if it can not be repaired.

Select the F9 boot options menu from the list and then select the USB Diskette on Key/USB hard Disk and hit the enter key. Then the PC should boot from the W10 installation flash drive.
