A great song. Why it seems to have fallen through the cracks is a mystery. Especially in these awfully stressful times we now live in, it serves as a cogent, poignant reminder to us all to clear our minds and mend our ways.
Was living off of UC Berkeley's campus and a neighbor in an apartment a couple of doors down was playing this song...stopped walking to the elevator and turned around and knocked on his door. Asked him who was singing and the name of the song...my introduction to Mr. Havens...thank you kind sir.
Richie was the first radio interview i ever did in college in 1972. Then seven years later I had the honor of interviewing him on the radio on the afternoon of August 15, 1979, the exact ten year anniversary of the moment that he opened the Woodstock festival. Right after that I had the honor to drive him home to Brooklyn and we spent the afternoon in the car talking and laughing. One of the great memories of my life.
So..are you Jewish? Hmmmm Ya be obvious zionist masonic satanic bigot childeaters...prove me wrong satan...oh..peace to all jews loving JESUS...popcorn and almondsYa Slaves yummmm for truth ya slime commie satanists...eat my CATHOLIC
The vibe is immaculate. Richie is one of the most underrated artists of the 60s. Cant even believe he wrote some of these gorgeous timeless songs. Wish all of his albums were on spotify
Prophetic words from this man Richie who I stumbled upon in1969. Too many of our younger men are dying young. They are not growing older. Far too many are cut down because we do not heed voices like Havens and Georege Clinton who aptly titled one album, "America Eats Her Young"!
He was great both as an artist and a man. I fortunately got to see him once in concert and he was terrific. That era produced so many talented and unique artists who touched the souls of their respective audiences. Rest in Peace.
StoneCole I brought this album the week it came out. I'd seen Havens in concert and he did this song totally blew me away. I'm 70 now and still listen to at least one cut on every week. It's helped me to maintain an open mind to the ideas of people younger than me.

I saw him in a tiny little club in Denver in 1976. Everyone sat on the floor in a circle around him. Mesmerized by him!

Yeah, it truly stands the test of time. I'd love to've seen what Lightfoot would've done with it.
His live concerts were wonderful.
Why can't this song be found on any album? I had it on a CD in the 90's but can't find it now. It's one of my all time favorites.
He passed on earth day. I loved this album from the 70s. He had a social conscious awareness.
He was doing God's work on earth for sure
Richie still underrated AF !!! soulful legend !!!
Hauntingly beautiful!
Grew up on this one. First act at Woodstock
