Judging by his hesitation when asked if he'd been drinking, he probably didn't report the accident because he was drunk.
Without a doubt, if he could have had it towed immediately the police would never have caught him, but he did dodge a drunk driving charge.
He probably tried to call 911, but couldn’t find the 11.
Oh I don't think there is any doubt that was the reason why all of this happened.

You would be amazed at how many people try to do it that way, often a day or even an hour after it happens.
Well obviously he knows how insurance works. but he wanted to make it seem like he had on-going insurance until it "expired" the day before he decided to take the car out and then crash it into a tree.
That's why JJ and everyone else giggled.

Nah, he probably doesn't have a lot of money and considers insurance an unnecessary cost. Like I commented myself, if he had a vehicle already insured he'd be covered automatically on any vehicle he bought for a reasonable time until he could add it to his policy. Or decided to drive for the first time. I laughed because he's obviously been driving it for more than one day.
Not all states require insurance to drive. Obviously this doofus needed it in his state though

Good point from Judge Judy. Evidence of bits of his truck in the tree is just as good as any eyewitness!
It is actually better than an eye witness. Studies have shown that eye witness testimony can't be conclusive because people can honestly believe what they are testifying to, but they are mistaken as memories fade, etc. The piece of truck in his yard was hard forensic evidence that proves he caused the damage.
As an insurance agent I can tell you that you can get insurance any day of the week. LOL 😂 🙄

1) He obviously didn't report the accident because he HAD been drinking.
2) He didn't have insurance on his truck because ''you can't get insurance on a Saturday''.
3) He didn't have insurance on the trailer that he used when he collected his truck 4 days later.
4) He denied that he'd been on someone else's property even though there was a piece of his truck left there after the accident.
5) He said ''a deer ran out infront of him'' .. How many times has JJ heard that one ?

#3: He didn't have insurance on the trailer: that was never discussed so we don't know whether he had insurance on the trailer or not.
Not a doubt in my mind that the defendant was driving while impaired.

Wow ! Driving without insurance , that is very , very scary . He had no insurance and he states it was a Ssturday , the insurers were closed , but he " wanted to drive the truck " , it not a trip for anything urgent . What if he hit a human being ? Someone loses their life and he fails to remain at the scene of an accident . You can't afford to allow your insurance to lapse , not even for 24 hours , period , end of story .
lol i seen some cases where the insurance expired and the people were gonna renew it at some point or maybe not and 1 week after BOOM an accident!
now they scurry for insurance right away

@@bubbaXzone : Insurance companies share information ! If they get a claim for the day a person's insurance expired they won't cover the accident . Most people in the US have liability insurance , but don't bother to get collision insurance . Some insures won't count the first accident with them . But there a huge warehouse of data for all North American insures , I think it's called General Insurance . I remember, that they have every driver's record of accidents , fraud and anything drivers were charged with . But there are those insurers that tell to pay them $ 20.00 and your covered . Insurance is very expensive depending on where you live and there a few States that don't require a driver to have insurance .

In New York State , your premiums are based on driving record and how much money the insurer lost in a particular year . You need collision and liability insurance , especially if you have assets . Because lawyers will come after your property .
He didn't have insurance on the truck that he had the accident in ''because it was a Saturday'' .. AND THEN he STILL didn't have insurance when he picked it up FOUR DAYS LATER, and they let him take it away !!
In the after-case interview, the defendant said _"a deer ran out in front of me, it was an act of god"_

That's vehicle lots don't let leave their lots without having insurance... its the law lol which is why insurance companies are always open for people who have to add on insurance haha

Ugh the number of drunk drivers who have crashed into our tree!!! A couple of weeks ago, a guy crashed into the driver's side of a car that got between the drunk driver and our tree. Someone was seriously hurt in that accident too.

To be fair to him, it was entirely logical that he collected the truck with a trailer and has not insured it or put it back on the road. I don't find anything unusual about that at all. Presumably he has more than one vehicle. I don't believe for a second he was not drinking though. Plus he is bit of a nasty piece of work for not paying for the damages he caused.

My husband pays car insurance and house insurance yearly and it's every February. He's been doing this 45 yrs.

A mature tree cannot be replaced in a day or even in 10 years. It's going to take 20 years or more.
