It's up there with my favourite states, San Luis and Durango! Sonora is no longer an unknown deserted enigma for me, that's for sure! ALWAYS HAVE TIME FOR SONORA!!!
I haven't been to Sonora, but I've had Sonoran hot dogs in Tucson and I can therefore say that Sonorans do the best hot dogs on planet Earth. Using a bun that encloses the entire sausage so the ends don't stick out is genius. A Sonoran bacon wrapped dog with sour cream, pico de gallo and avocado, and a guava Jarritos at El Guero Canelo in Tucson is one of the best cheap meals I've ever had.
Yes as a native of Hermosillo I aprove. By the way is not pico de gallo we call it flag salsa because the colors it includes onion, green pepper and tomato the pico de gallo includes pineapple, jicama, and other fruits.
Guero Canelo's ones are kind of average, if you happen to cross the border, stop by Hermosillo, way more toppings, the ones at "plaza tutuli" are good representatives, but there are more places that have their own thing, I'd reccommend taking a tour. Cheers.

Tecolote is the Mexican (Nahuatl) word for owl. In Spain, it is called a buho. Tecolote llanero would be a plains owl. Having already lived in Tucson Arizona I can understand why expats wouldn't want to live in Hermosillo. You would need 24-7 air conditioning from April to October. Like Tucson though winters are pleasant. The nearest decent beach is in Playa San Carlos, which according to Google maps, is 139 kilometers or 1hr 29min away. I guess some people like the desert but I personally like seeing some green once in a while. Hermosillo does seem to be a prosperous city, as Mexican prosperous cities go, and it has a good university plus a lot of automobile assembly plants. Quoting Wikipedia, "Hermosillo was ranked as one of the five best cities to live in, in Mexico, as published in the study "The Most Livable Cities of Mexico 2013" by the Strategic Communications Cabinet of the Mexican Federal Government. Hermosillo was also ranked in 2016 as the seventh most competitive city in the country according to the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), based on factors such as its economic diversification, geographical location, access to education, government, innovation, and international relations. The major manufacturing sector has been the production of automobiles since the 1980s."
The 'Parque La Ruina' I briefly mentioned was a former automobile factory apparently. It was my own mess-up because I forgot it was right near Starbucks where I started the video and I ended up back in the centre lol, and by that point I had the energy of a corpse! Re Arizona I've definitely learnt more about the state since being in Sonora. I know a few people from there too. I can absolutely understand why those wanting to move to Mexico would not necessarily move to Hermosillo. God, the heat!
The nearest decent beach is actually Bahia de Kino, which is just about 40 minutes away from Hermosillo. As a long time resident of Hermosillo, I actually prefer Kino, it's beach is sandy as opposed to San Carlos' pebbled beaches.

If you’re going to Torreón I recommend going to Parras. It is a Pueblo magico located an hour and a half away. It has the oldest winery in all of the Americas amongst other attractions.
Thanks Deedee! In real-time I'll be back in Torreon on Saturday. I had Parras planned for last year but had some issues around determining whether there was a bus (it's actually why I ended up filming a video in Matamoros instead!). All I could discover was that it was easier to get a bus there from Monterrey or Saltillo. Do you know anything? My schedule is already planned to the letter (lol), but you never know, if I can get there I will try for a bonus video. My main Torreon video this year is actually part of my final videos, so it will actually come after my upcoming Serbia series. It will make sense in the end hopefully lol
@@davidostrowski679 you’re welcome. There is a bus traveling daily to Parras. You can catch that bus in Torreons “central camionera”. Or ask a local, most have gone.

Sonoran dogs are awesome. One thing to not about the university in Mexico is Public Universities are free in Mexico, all you have to do is pass the entrance exam and be lucky in the entrance lottery, there are also private universities that cost.
Me gustó mucho ver tu vídeo.
Great video....you were in top form in this one. 'It's f*cking owl family under there...little baby owls' needs to be a tag line of some sort. Or maybe a t-shirt in your 'merch' store (like the really awesome youtubers do)
I'm in Phoenix, Arizona, right next door to Sonora, but it is a relatively unknown place to many here. If you were to ask a few random gringos up here I bet many have never even heard of Hermosillo. Looks like an interesting place. In the summer I'd probably want to drive a little further to San Carlos for some slightly cooler weather.
Funfact about university in México: Universities don't have dorm rooms the way they do in the US and other places, which makes tuition incredibly cheap. I went to Universidad de Sonora and I paid I think like 400 pesos every semester (which is equivalent to 20 American dollars or 16 British pounds). Of course, the infrastructure of the universities here is very different to what you see in countries where you pay more money, and there's also the fact that not having dorms can be very inconvenient for people coming from other places because they have to invest in getting an apartment in the city (which, if you're 18 and don't come from a wealthy family, can be extremely difficult). So there's downsides and upsides to everything! The upside here is that it makes higher education a lot more accessible to people don't come from money. PS: I'm glad you saw the owls! I wish a roadrunner had shown up cause it's pretty common to see one or two once in a while making a dash at Universidad de Sonora xd
AWESOME! Yes I agree re university in general, there are upsides and downsides everywhere whether it's paid or not. I remember someone telling me from an EU country where they only paid an 'admin' fee that the quality of education was dire in comparison to a Masters they paid for subsequently in the UK. I have many English students in Russia - for most of them, university is simply seen as regular education. Many career paths supposedly don't have much in the way of on-the-job development which I was fortunate to have. I was even running workshops for graduates at one point... as a non-graduate! Those owls were quite possibly the highlight of the year!!
Wow, great video of Hermosillo, as always you brave the elements specially the kind of elements that Northern Mexico dishes out, deserts and heat during the summer. I said wow because you probably did not expect to hear Ravel's Bolero in Hermosillo in that hot summer. Definitely Northern Mexico has its own personality compared to Central Mexico, where you still are surrounded by the ancient presence of the Aztec empire and Colonial Mexico, less so in the North. Congratulations again in your EU citizenship, you will be able to put your hands in your new passport.
Gracias Francisco as always! Bolero has to be one of my favourites of all time, I used to play it on the clarinet as a teenager! I picked up my passport a few days after this video in CDMX! That pic is actually my passport, and my hand!! Since then I've been back in SLP and Zacatecas on my way back to Torreón. I feel like I've traveled half the country recently... I kind of have!
@@davidostrowski679 l forgot the video time and real time, you are a truly European citizen now, see what you have to say about Torreon and Zacatecas a second time.

A comment about your climbing that Bell Hill, "Mad dogs and Englishmen Go out in the midday sun,". I actually don't know if it was midday but I didn't see many people in the streets. I am like you though, climbing hills in desert cities just because they are there. Be careful with actinic keratosis though. It is a form of pre-skin cancer and only starts to appear after the age of fifty or so. The Australians have the highest incidence in the world and your type of skin makes you a perfect candidate.
Thanks for the advice Ray! You're definitely right about Englishmen! Exactly, if it's there, I climb it! It was about 3pm because I filmed the previous video in the morning. It wasn't actually too bad heat-wise!
You are so "Loco" to walk on that horrible temperature. I was born, raised and still live in this city. As a local, I don't walk around the city in the middle of the day in summer. It's good to know You were around here though!

Hey Diego! Jaja that's exactly why I titled this video 'the best dogos', I knew there would be rivalry. It's very difficult to compare because I was in Obregón for 4 weeks and had dogos in about 4 places, but in Hermosillo only from the 1 place (although 2 nights consecutively!) so I think I'd have to say Obregón. Both amazing though, zero complaints. I like how there are so many ingredients! In UK it's basically just like an Oxxo hotdog, ketchup and mustard from a sachet lol
Why don't you go to empalme Sonora which is next to guaymas Sonora. It's my familys hometown. They have the train museum. Lots of great food and fresh seafood.
Jaja don't let anyone in Obregón or Hermosillo hear that jaja #hotdogrivalry LOL. As a foreigner I can just say Sonora hotdogs are the best in general!

Sonoran dogs are awesome. One thing to not about the university in Mexico is Public Universities are free in Mexico, all you have to do is pass the entrance exam and be lucky in the entrance lottery, there are also private universities that cost.
I heard about UNAM!
Great video, and tanks to visit us...!!! y...Arriba el Norte..!!!
Gracias Jorge! Arriba!

Me gustó mucho ver tu vídeo.
Muchas gracias Diego! Saludos hermano!
Great video....you were in top form in this one. 'It's f*cking owl family under there...little baby owls' needs to be a tag line of some sort. Or maybe a t-shirt in your 'merch' store (like the really awesome youtubers do)
#unexpectedowlgate22
Thanks David!
Seems like Hermosillo and San Carlos is more popular for people that live in Tucson and the people up in The Valley are more oriented to Rocky Point.
That’s funny you say, 🍊 do the same for me. As always you have done an amazing job giving a cliffs notes overview of this city.
So sickly sweet. I prefer oranges x

Bien venido a Hermosillo sonora y te falta visitar Todas muestras playas y nuestra hermosa sierra y pueblos del río
Buen Viaje! IF you EVER comeback, let's do some sandboarding at San Nicolás that is really close :D
Sounds like a plan hermano!
"Climb the bleeding hill, mate!"
CLASSIC
Thank you for showing Sonora to the world! 😀 when are you comming back to do all the other things ?
Maybe in a couple of years but not with UA-cam as I'm coming to the end of that. 6 years is enough!
@@davidostrowski679 ok 👍 El Pinacate, isla Tiburón 🦈 and the towns in the Sierra are worth seeing, hope we can bring you back soon to see all that, saludos desde Hermosillo
A comment about your climbing that Bell Hill, "Mad dogs and Englishmen
Go out in the midday sun,".
Hello David, I loved your video. I'm going to be in Hermosillo for a couple of days, I wanted to ask you if you think it's safe for a solo female traveler,, I also intend to vlog, have you had any issue filming around with your phone or gopro? Thank you so much :)
David historically Sinaloa used to be part of México also the current state of Arizona thats why some similar things. The mochuelo is endangered here but are refugees to them in University of Sonora where you saw them. Gracias por tú visita!!!
I love your video, you made me laugh so much 😅🫶🏻

btw, are there mosquitoes there? If it is going to be hot, then at least there should be no mosquitoes.
When it rains, it becomes mosquito central unfortunately.
I didn't see any. As the other person said yes when it rains. On Isla Holbox near Cancun I counted 120 bites on one leg! But it was very wet and flooded at the time. And that was with mosquito repellent!!
Hello David! So in Sonora we have this fight about which one has the best dogos Hermosillo or Obregon, which one do you think?
Reminds me a fair amount of both El Paso and Albuquerque
Te vamos a extrañar werooo :'c

The heat in Hermosillo is, well...intense.
I forgot to tell tha Mexicali is the hottest town in Mexico, average summer is 42 degrees or more.
I definitely wouldn't go there in summer that's for sure!
What happen to visiting Navojoa?
I was too injured to go there. I left Sonora a couple of weeks ago unfortunately
Ponte un sombrero 🤭
A movie quote"There's fuckery afoot" Has fuck all to do with anything but I like it!
👏
wow, it surprises me to see people who speak english talk about hermosillo and most don't even know it
Yuo are now and forever a persona non grata in Obregón.
Gracias Juan! VIVA OBREGÓN!
Why don't you go to empalme Sonora which is next to guaymas Sonora. It's my familys hometown. They have the train museum. Lots of great food and fresh seafood.
I explained why in the Guaymas video. Almost broke my pelvis and knocked myself unconscious on day of filming
Their baseball team is called the Naranjas. There must be a lot of oranges there.
Elctrolit its not a placebo at all! Its actually or go to Sonorans beverage to cure a hangover
Brillliant! It's literally magic in a bottle. I would have been dead without it in Sonora!
many business close during the hottest hour 1-3pm . Sonora is beautiful October - April.
Best hot dogs 🌭 and tacos de asada are in Guaymas 🙌🏼💯
Jaja don't let anyone in Obregón or Hermosillo hear that jaja #hotdogrivalry LOL. As a foreigner I can just say Sonora hotdogs are the best in general!

I'm a Sonoran from Hermosillo. Is just a little big town, besides the junk food here, there is nothing to see as a tourist and the extreme heat negatively impacts in the quality of life, also we're suffering a water crisis since the 90's. If you look for good vacations or where you could settle as an inmigrant is better to try in Baja California, Baja California Sur or Bajío/Central/Southern Mexico.
“JESUCRISTO VIENE”= “JESUS CHRIST IS COMING”
It’s been on that hill for years. He never comes!!! 🤣🤣🤣
