Gary Atkinson, Halle Barre and I wrote How Long Has It Been in February of 1992. The song was written in Flemish. It was written while we were driving from New Mexico to Idaho for the funeral of Garry's mother Lorraine Atkinson. The song was sung at her funeral.
Just now! October 21, 2021. Had this going through my head but couldn't find it in any of our hymnals! Thanks to Google, and the great Gaither musicians, my husband and I got to hear it! MK in TN
Gaithers are my favourites I feel like listening to all each day those voices from my Christian legends the old men and old women that inspire them my favourite players there on piano Antony Barger
How Long Has It Been was written in Flemish on the night of Valentines Day. The song was written as we drove through the night going to Idaho for the funny of Lorraine Atkinson. Gary Atkinson wrote the first verse in Flemish. The second verse was written in German by Gary. Then I finished the verse in Rhodham. Halle Barre started the third verse in Latin. At dawn we crossed the border into Idaho. I wrote the third verse in Italian. Then we arrived in Pocatello and met some other relatives for breakfast. Some of the family members had spouses that were Sioux. I finished the verse in the Nakota. The copyright has been stolen and additional verses have been suppressed. The additional thoughts were mostly in Native American languages which various family members knew. If my members is correct there were 12 verses and all of them were sung at the graveside service for Lorraine.
I wrote How Long Has It Been with Vestal Goodman on New Years Day of 1971. The song was written in Flemish and translated into Italian. The English translation was made by my mother.
Hello! You can look up Gaither Homecoming Series, then look at the titles in each one. This one should be one of the first. They had to change to much larger venues for the group Homecomings after about 4 of them or so.
And, judging everybody and their brother for this, that, and the other makes YOU a immoral person (as the bible says NOT to judge or condemn). Jesus never condemned anyone (even the prostitute that the people were getting ready to stone to death). He forgave and pardoned her. He hung out with the people who YOU are condemning. The outcasts, the prostitutes, the criminals, etc., etc., etc., And, He didn't lecture them all the time. He was their friend. He loved them and cared about them. GROW UP!
Just soooo wonderful ... sweet Jake and George, gone now, but certainly their fabulous voices and spirits are not forgotten... truly men of God.
