I first heard OOH CHILD on a Soul Train 8 track compilation back in the early 70's and loved it ever since! A local Chicago deejay Richard Pegue told his listeners that The Invisible Mans Band was really the 5 Stairsteps. I had to have All Night Thing in my collection! I knew Keni was keeping the things alive and would see his name hear and there but didn't know the details that this presentation brought to light. Thanks again for the excellent soul facts!!!
The truth they broke up I believe money no one could write music and get a hit in the family same with the Jacksons that's why mike left it's a business it's hard to write music and make a hit I mean hard and to make a living at it lot of sacrifice hard work but it lives forever even when you gone
The Five Stair Steps really needed a great team of R&B songwriters, producers, musicians to give them that soulfulness they so richly with their music, their sound was too POP; therefore making it difficult for Black listeners to really get into their music.
I really enjoyed watching parts 1 and 2. I was in the audience at the old Uptown in N. Philly back in the day and saw them perform. I remember the 50 cents shows on Fridays after school.. did I say 50 cents?
By the time l came along it was $1.50 on Saturday:s for an Uptown show, We stayed for two shows then the Adults would come in by then it was nightime and full price.
I saw this Great and Talented young group.... they performed at " The Freedom Show " in Philly, PA. Other Artist were .... JJ Jackson, Maxine Brown and a variety of Talented Artists. Marvin Gaye was the Featured Artist I was a true fan of The Five Stairsteps & Cubie They wore Red Blazers, Black Slacks and White shirts. Their performance was Great ! " PEACE & BLESSINGS EVERYONE "
My little Brother gave me his 2nd Resurrection LP to check The Stair Steps Out.....I "Never" gave Him that LP Back! I was a New Devoted Fan! I Loved Their Style. It was Sooo "Fresh" yet Smoothe and Funky! What a Gifted Family. I'm sure they inspired The Jackson 5. Yep. 😁❤
O-O-H Child. YESSSS. It was the only Age appropriate song my Dad will allow me to listen to . And I played it all day long , on Saturdays and a few hours on school days. And Salaam.
Great documentary. I didn't know much about the 5 Stairsteps & what they did after "Ooh Child". Keni was a great Bass player at that age on that song. Btw, love the crack in His voice during the "things'll be brighter" part.👍
The first time I heard the sound of the Five Stair Steps it was that Summer of 1970, I was 11yrs old going on 12. I loved baseball and the song "O-O-Oh Child".......I loved that song!!... However, my all time FAVORITE is "World of Fantasy"
Thank you so much for these videos! They are forever one of my favorite entertainers. I was at the Uptown in Philly like others have commented. Those were good days. Just FYI Jimmy Bishop was “The Love Man” “Butterball” was Joe Tamburro. Miss those DJs as well. Patty Jackson worked under Butterball and she’s still at WDAS in Philly. She also has a UA-cam channel, Facebook and Instagram if interested. Again thank you!!
I really enjoyed this, just found your channel and subscribed. Now I have to catch up on your other videos. Ooh Child has been a lon time favorite of mine. I also remember I Love You Stop from back in the day. Beautiful family who made beautiful music.
Profiles in Pittsburgh Allegheny County PA it was a wonderful interview of this wonderful family. Having a father as a City detective in Pittsburgh I understand why these young men and sister became so successful. Their mannerisms were owed to their dad and mother which made them born with one another for so many years in this industry. I'm thankful to have lived on 70 9th Street right up the street from the Regal Theater worked at Jackson's Hospital on Stony Island. Was blessed to be at the Regal Theater when Jackie Wilson sat behind me with his mother who looked identically like him. He is so quiet behind me that I thought he had fallen asleep but my friend Mildred Merriweather told me to turn around and when I did his nose met mine where he had been smelling my hair throughout this hour and a half performance with all these great stars on stage. It was a night to remember because I just prayed honeysuckle in my hair that I have bought from Avon products. Wow bringing back so many memories and I'm thankful that you keep telling the story of people like La Verne Baker who I love listening to in the fifties coming up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Hallelujah hope to hear more of your interviews sister Nora Parker
There is scant video footage of the group. With the exception of television appearances of the group as children, Barbara McNair show and Soul Train, I would love to see videos of the group in concert, especially in their heydays! Thanks Chancellor
OMG! Right now my mind is blown. I never knew this about them. I thought they just broke up. I am so glad to hear this. However, I remember the first album from 1969. We were playing it at our house party in Philly.
Ooh Child was number 1 all over the world this song sold billions not millions so many artist sang this song. They should of got pay for this my opinion they was Rob they made it on Soul train and the song took off
Love the extra music you throw in between. Any chance I can get a playlist of the instrumental and other tunes that you threw in there as background music?
The 5 Stairs steps had a better version of dear prudence and the Beatles managers didn't like it that's why it was pulled even thou it was written by the Beatles the stair steps did it better musically and Vocally
Loved it and learned much..but Bro, How could you leave out "Mr Dream Merchant " and " Wild Flower" their two greatest hits???? Peace and Jesus to you all....
They began to sound like 5th Dimension- needed better writers, producers. They still should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of FAME which has become a joke with inductees who are not getting in on natural talent 🤦🏾♀️but money.
There's a recent interview from Narada Michael Walden's podcast, where he interviewed Keni. Keni mentioned that his mother is still alive, and she recently celebrated her birthday. The interview is on UA-cam.
@@garyt7855 OH, great to hear. She must be in her 90s! 😊 I never realized how much Aloha looks like her mother! And I missed coverage on James passing, if there was any. Thank you, I'm going to search for interview.
I love this group but towards the end it seems like the soul was leaving the music and they were making them sound like the white groups of the 70’s like mamas and papas
Jay,I totally agree.i lived in south Philadelphia during that time, saw them at the uptown theater in north philadelphia.was very good times.ALL PRAISES TO TMH.PEACE AND LOVE.
The five stairsteps was better the Jackson five because they all had strong voices like the silvers they can harmonize I don't think they all wrote and I don't. Like when parents live through there children don't trust that but they was good and seemed to like working together because they was capable of singing and writing if they choose to they was a listening group even though they did dance songs you could just sit there a listen
Chancellor you’re the UNSong of Unsong 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾♥️ this. This group deserves this and so much more!
Excellent presentation!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
It's one of my favorite groups. All night thing. Invisible Man's Band 1981. Ooh child is another favorite tunes of all time.
Watching both parts of the Stairsteps felt like I grew up with them! Thoroughly enjoyed these videos! Ur great Chancellor!! Mike
Wow thank you for this great work!
Loved this. Very thoughtful
Both halves in one day! Thanks, Mike!
Thank you Chancellor this was fire!!!

@@roberthorton6619 michael left because he wanted to do greater things
This is like going to the candy store :) LOVE THESE STORIES!!!
they made way for the jackson and the sylivers
They did! They were hotter than fish grease with those tight voices and beautiful harmonies.

wild flower was orignally done by skylark
Thanks for informing me, all 3 groups were fabulous
The family was all in n oi 4life
"Ooh Child" was also covered by Paul Stanley from rock group KISS
Honestly this group the music was played so much at our party in the day i will always ❤ them

Why was their father always in there photos mugging up the camera ??

Record companies, marketing and that crossover thing kills Black artists careers and the authenticity of the music. Artists still struggle.
