Yes Karl Richter recorded a mitic version of Reger's (for my humble opinion) Fantasie and Fugue on B.A.C.H ... on vynil... I Have bought the historical remastered version of all his Bach's perfomances...
It's a pity tha t almost all of KRs life recordings are of this incredible awful sound quality. There should be a new professional CD edition of all these immortal documents that will teach us the true musicality!
Wow! Thank you, KR, for sharing this. Did not know that Richter recorded any Reger. 6:22 Fugue (too fast) Strange things happening - rushed and unsteady rhythms in this fugue. He loses me. Rushes through and ruins this Maxnificent fugue.
Actually I think the Fugue could go a tad faster. Reger marks it Vivace......also I think to truly get into the mindset of the fugue it should EXCRUCIATINGLY difficult for the organist.....!!
@@andrewlarson603 Reger, I think, marked Vivace because too many organiststruggle and never get it up to speed. (After how manyears?, I stilhave not finished the Maxnificent fugue.)(No interest in learning the Fantasia.) The finest performance I recall is Heinz Lohmann on Musical Heritage Society. (I regrethat I never sent him a letter thanking him.)
@@andrewlarson603 Too fast makes the fugue less stately, mighty and massive. My score is packed away somewhere. Ha! I commented 6 years ago! Th.is worse than I remember. So rushed sounds like he is trying to get it over with. Hispeed makes it sound lessignificant. Now I need Heinz Lohmann as an antidote.
Well, sorry, but that very bad sound quality just kills this video. Can't it be improved upon by some technical measures? I at least will remember not to play this one again, Mr. Richter playing magnificently or not, because there is no pleasure in this playing this video.
My first favourite Organist and Teacher ....

I think the ideal tempo for the 12/8 section is around 60BPM to the dotted quarter......
