Recommendation for those amac boxes. Drill a hole at the top and use a nail or screw to keep the corkbark in place. It's easier and cleaner to remove when needed.
What I do when I have something glued is take a heat gun or hair dryer and heat the glue until it's soft then pull what ever is glued off. Love your videos!
Again, my stock comment of "I've been thinking of getting into these" 🤣 I miss my Australian Hunstman adventures so maybe a couple of these would bring back fond memories and give me some different behaviours to observe. They hunt so differently to any tarantula that I keep. I think I could just about cope with the rehousing with ample prep so maybe I'll give it a go soon.

Huntsman moult like stick insects/mantis. I think that it's mandatory for bigger huntsman to have corkbark glued also on the ceiling of the enclosure. When they get bigger its hard for them to moult while clinging plastic. They prefer higest easy to grab surface for that and they need much space to not end like cripple. Please have that in mind.
@@TomsBigSpiders For now i think plastic plant's are ok. This surface does not look tottaly flat. Like you saw L1 can moult on plastic without problem but heavier spider needs better texture. For next enclousure i would use corkbark on the lid since its best surface to grab on the most optimal hight. It is all about best odd's of succesful moult. Huntsman are quite easty to care but it can get really bad if they fall moulting, also if they start moulting to low they can get front legs deformed.

Feed the crickets the spiders feed on fish food, especially the fish food that promotes color or size or both. When I was collecting them about 20 years ago I did this and they grew extra plus the more colorful ones became brilliant.

Smooth as can be considering they're greased lightning on 8 legs. Hopefully, as they larger, they'll be easier to tackle as you can't lose them in the folds of your shirt anymore ;) Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
One thing I used to do with my spiders is when I would upgrade I would make sure that the old container could fit in the new container and then I’d let the spider come out on their own. And when they did I would remove the old enclosure.
I’m pretty sure I did the same with my jumping spider too. Also if you gently blow on them you can manipulate their movement with little stress to them.
Also don’t forget to gently blow on the spider towards the direction you want them to go. They don’t like it but it’s not so stressful that they would kick the irritating hairs.(new worlds at least won’t kick them)

Once again, nice vid work, Tom. I actually use the same Amac set up for most of my arboreals. It works out very well. Have you ever seen any color leeching from the moss? I have seen a few studies on the Pangea brand and it was found that they actually were dyeing the moss. It was non toxic but was found to leave green streaks on the animals it came into contact with - when damp of course.

These look like the sp. thai caves to me: … there are some true h. Maximas I just saw for sale on morphmarket I couldn’t believe it, I’ve never ever ever seen them available before ever in the hobby they are so rare. I see the thai cave huntsman All the time: I wish I could afford to buy some of the h. Maximas that they are selling on morphmarket but they are $500 a piece. Got a question completely unrelated to this video :D Some 1.5 years ago I got an adult, dehydrated and injured, d.pentaloris female as a mercy freebee from my local store (which is specialised on reptiles, not spiders) so they thought I might rescue it. Rescue it I did, but given all what I know and all what I can find online, it doesn't behave like d.pentaloris at all. Doesn't web at all, doesn't hide (not once moved in the premade burrow), despises humidity, is timid to the point of brachypelma-like apathy... So I thought it might be they got the species wrong since I seemed to remember having read there was another species looking similar. Checking some long outdated books from the 90ies I found the passage 'crypsidromus zebratus can easily be mistaken for cylosternum fasciatum'. Now, world spider catalogue says these are old names for d.pentaloris and d.ruficeps but I can't hardly find any information about the latter. Do you have any idea how to distinguish one from the other, and if d.ruficeps requires different husbandry?

In the wild, they don't always eat every day and can go a while before finding a suitable meal. In some cases, they will find something large that will make a big meal, and not have to feed as often. That's why people tend to feed them once a week or so. Also, most folks don't feed them 7 crickets at a time, as many won't take that many. The people that I've spoken to that feed them daily usually end up with a chubby T before long that take forevery in premolt.

Hey Tom. If you want the speediest teleporters, try Viradasius fasciata - they're so quick! Way quicker than anything else I have had. On a separate note, check out this behaviour I witnessed today - my Ephebopus murinus bobbing up and down when I dropped a second cricket into the enclosure. So, I have ask...they are faster than the huntsman and the wandering spiders? I have species of those two that are literally gone in a blink. I think that there gets to be a point where certain species are so fast that it's difficult to discern which is truly the "fastest." I will definitely keep an eye out for those! @@TomsBigSpiders I gave had Heteropoda boei, davidbowie, javana and lunula plus Cupiennius salei (Tiger Wanderers). The Zebra Wandering Spiders (the Viradasius) leave them for dust... They really freak me out. It's so hard to feed them when they're small as you check where they are before opening and then suddenly they're gone! 😳
In the winter time in New Englan, you pull the boats out of the water to store them. You then build a frame over the top of the boat and cover the tops in shrink wrap to protect them from snow and the weather. We used to do over 100 boats in a season that way.

Hello, Sonnyd. At 3:25 in the video, I use a paint brush to get the spider out. At 5:06, I also start by trying to use a brush to get the second one out, but I can't get the correct angle on it without having a situation where the spider could bolt up the brush and onto my arm (which could lead to escape. So, at 5:32, I decide to use a flexible piece of paper to coax the spider out.

I recently bought two H. sp. Thai caves, which look exactly like your spiders. Amazing spiders.
They are probably the same ones! haha It seems to be a variant of the same species from a different location, but no one knows for certain.

They likely aren't, and I talked abou this in a more current video. Although they were sold as maxima, they were likely Thai cave spiders.

@@TomsBigSpiders thanks i will try and get some dubias or locusts. the aphonopelma seemanni i recently bought had a small abdodmen that was smaller than the carapace so i wasnt sure if it could have some more food .

Hey Tom. If you want the speediest teleporters, try Viradasius fasciata - they're so quick! Way quicker than anything else I have had.

So, I have ask...they are faster than the huntsman and the wandering spiders? I have species of those two that are literally gone in a blink. I think that there gets to be a point where certain species are so fast that it's difficult to discern which is truly the "fastest." I will definitely keep an eye out for those! And I just checked it out!
@@TomsBigSpiders I gave had Heteropoda boei, davidbowie, javana and lunula plus Cupiennius salei (Tiger Wanderers). The Zebra Wandering Spiders (the Viradasius) leave them for dust... They really freak me out. It's so hard to feed them when they're small as you check where they are before opening and then suddenly they're gone! 😳
Why Shrink wrap a boat⁉️
In the winter time in New Englan, you pull the boats out of the water to store them. You then build a frame over the top of the boat and cover the tops in shrink wrap to protect them from snow and the weather. We used to do over 100 boats in a season that way.

Hello, Sonnyd. At 3:25 in the video, I use a paint brush to get the spider out. At 5:06, I also start by trying to use a brush to get the second one out, but I can't get the correct angle on it without having a situation where the spider could bolt up the brush and onto my arm (which could lead to escape. So, at 5:32, I decide to use a flexible piece of paper to coax the spider out.
