The sad thing is he wasn't even weak; Both are breath users of the sun and moon, two halves of the same whole. All users afterwards are derived from their styles, and koku could've done so much more with his skills and experience.

It would be an amazing battle. In fact, Kokushibo and Tanjiro could even be polar opposites. They became strong for different reasons, they breathing styles are perfectly different. Kokushibo stabs Muzan in the back, stealing his power, becoming the Demon King Kokushibo, and achieving the power he spent almost 5 centuries trying to achieve. While Tanjiro takes a piece of Muzan's power(or drink Nezuko's demon blood) to fight him in equal conditions. They both fight around the entire disctrict using all of their breathing techniques. The Sun vs the Moon, the Light vs the Darkness, the Hope vs the Jealosy. Until they both create and launch their final technique:

Tanjiro: Fourteenth Form: Sunrise of Hope
Kokushibo is beheaded in the middle of the sunrise. In his deathbed, Tanjiro gives him his blessings and asks him to atone for all of his sins. Kokushibo appears in the limbo with Yoriichi in front of him, who tells him: Are you happy, brother? You managed to surpass me. He burst into tears in front of his brother and realize something: strength will never overcome love. He reflects on all the people he has murdered in the last 480 years and apologizes to Yoriichi, thanking him for never stopping at loving him. Then he walks straight to hell to clean up all my crimes, but not as Kokushibo, but as Michikatsu Tsugikuni.
