      I used 2:1 and 1:1 for this, but what you should look at for resin is the type of resin and if it’s ideal for your project. There are 1:1 resin that is meant for casting thicker pieces and 1:1 resin that is meant for top coating. Definitely read over the instructions for the resin you’re using or intend on purchasing to see how to best work with them. The specific resins I used in the video are linked in the description.

    How long does it take for the glue to dry on the back? Mine seems to be taking forever!

    • @EllafulDeco
      @EllafulDeco  9 місяців тому

      It usually takes ~24 hours for me. I have a fan blowing at my glued pieces to help decrease that time to ~6-8 hours. It’ll dry faster with a thinner layer as well. You can also look into liquid latex. It can be used for the same purpose, but it’s pricier.

    The pump on the left looks really hard to push down. I like the idea of the calibrated pumps. Does the pump by chance get slightly clogged causing it to be harder to push? Thank you so much!

    • @EllafulDeco
      @EllafulDeco  Рік тому

      They are not clogged, but just that the resin (part A) is slightly thicker than the hardener (part B) so it takes a little bit of force to push down. Think of it like pumping honey vs juice.

    • @EllafulDeco
      @EllafulDeco  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for watching and for your kind words! The heat helps create the cells for the coasters, but you can also try to spritz isopropyl alcohol on the surface after you spread your white. I tried that and it create some insane cells. I didn't do anything extra outside of the video to get these effects though so I definitely credit the resin and pigment for my oceans.

    Newbie here.. hi, why the need for the glue back when the coasters are flat down anyway when doing the waves? Desperate to learn as much as I can, beautiful coasters, thank you ☺️

    • @EllafulDeco
      @EllafulDeco  3 дні тому +1

      Hello! You’ll see that when I peel off the glue, there are resin drips on the glue that get peeled off as well. Without the glue layer, those drips will need to be sanded down instead because they will be cured to the coaster itself. Then we’d have to go through a whole sanding and polishing step for the bottom. I use the glue when I do any top coats to protect the bottom of a piece so I don’t have to sand.

      The heat gun helps with the cells in this video. I think the resin and pigment matters as well because I don't do anything extra outside of what was shown in this video. This table top resin has given be the best and consistent results, better than some expensive art resin that's promoted as made for ocean waves.

    Hi,
    Firstly your coasters are just way too beautiful. Haven't seen something like these anywhere else.
    One question- have you tried making the waves while the coaster was in mould and not after taking it out? Would that not prevent it dripping to other side?

    • @EllafulDeco
      @EllafulDeco  9 місяців тому

      Hi, and thank you! I have tried making waves in the mold here- ua-cam.com/video/NeynrE7jAoI/v-deo.htmlsi=MaC3dQ0mA5wnEQC5 and here- ua-cam.com/video/TjKYynOOCKQ/v-deo.htmlsi=q9w8asdnIj5KM_W4. I think the cells didn’t really turn out as nicely because when the resin is in the mold, it gravitates towards the middle. Doing it as a top coat, has given me better results. I have some other ocean videos where I’m not using any mold, so you can check those out as well to see other results.

    Wow, I didn’t think this would look too nice, but it’s so beautiful! I love love the colours. We are just beginning my 10 year daughter and I, and have wooden coasters to try on. She didn’t want to do the same old blue ones as everyone but loves loves these! Can you put glue on the back of the wood??

      Thank you so much for your kind words! I haven't tried glue with wood because wood is porous so I'm not sure how well it'll come off. I usually stick to blue painter's tape or green frog tape for wood. I have several videos going over how I work with wood panels that shows this step 😊

      As long as you measure the correct amount of both parts, it doesn’t matter.
