Premium is simply the price you pay to obtain the coin. My premium on eagles right now is $125, but I had to pay $75 in pre.ium to get it from my distributor
@@themillennialnumismatist so how does that differ from profit? When I buy a car they don't tell me about their wholesale price then tack on a profit margin. This is not a criticism. I'm honestly trying to learn. Thx
I grew up with a bunch of Klamath Indians and one of their terms for money was duckets. I never knew where it came from and I'm not to sure how they incorporated that name for money into their every day life but now I know what a duckets is lol
Every time i’m look at the high premium gold i always end up going for our good ole European gold for fractional😅 The premiums on eagles and the like are just to much to stomach.
We go thru this exact lesson many times a weekend at our little shop in Myrtle Beach. We find that there is a decent mix of value minded Gold and Silver shoppers and those diehard ASE and AGE buyers.
Love this...This is reason 421984 I am a collector and not a stacker...Premiums are required to keep the people I buy from in business...If I loose the premium, I loose the business that sells me the coin I love. This is not currency anymore and cannot be assumed to be treated as such. People assume sometimes that it should be like stamps bought at the post office...and complain that the post office can't make money!
Now and then i been drooling few coins in your shop through MA-shops. I once did ask some details about one coin but got no reply. Harlan sells only for US customers?
Personally i like having a relationship with my LCS where i'm able to buy product at a good price and sell product at a good price. They treat me fair and honest, and I'm happy to help support their good honest business... Thanks for sharing...
I don't like the foreign gold because of the weird, awkward weights. I do not want to have to explain to someone what it is since most (if any?) don't have the weights on the coin. I just think it's a harder sell. Of course, most coin stores are going to know but I think a lot of them may not be interested (especially the smaller ones) because they may have to sit on it for a while. I buy things that I can sell easily with little to no explanation. It may cost a little more but worth it IMHO. BTW, I am not buying any fractional gold right now because the premiums have really went up. Thanks for the explanation. We certainly understand you need to make money to be in business.
From what I've seen so far in my short time stacking, high premium gold and silver sell easier/quicker, but very near spot. Low premium sells near spot but requires a bit more effort. I lucked out on a constitutional silver collection that should be very liquid if the time arises when I must sell. Now I'm focused on gold, and foreign coins are the best deal. I'm never going to pay over 3% premiums. I'd rather accumulate foreign, commemorative, and scrap. I think the market will shrink LCSs and more transactions will be brokered online in the future. The future is chaotic and exciting.
I like your wooden flag. It looks like cedar. I collect a BU and a Proof AGE yearly for my date collection. I wanted to do that with the frac Buffalos, but we all know what happened with those. For stacking gold weight, I like Mexican Pesos. I gave up stacking silver for weight. I had to evacuate from a wildfire last year. My silver was a pain because of the weight and room it took up. When I finally returned home from the evacuation, I decided to sell my silver and replace it with gold and graded classic coins. I am pleased about that decision. I like my graded classic gold coins, but my favorite is my 1/2 oz 2018 Reverse Proof Libertad. It is my most beautiful gold coin. I recommend collecting graded classics and stacking Mexican Pesos. Thanks.
I agree that silver is too heavy plus the % premiums are too high. I stack cash and store in fireproof pouches until I get a good low-premium gold opportunity. Gold is going to crush it in the next 2 years IMHO.
Glad you responded to T's video. I am a new stacker but foreign gold just seems like the best deal. I also like there are different varieties which makes foreign gold fun to collect. What do you think about the liquidity of foreign gold? It seems that is why a lot of people don't like it.
Totally agree with you. My LCS says and the end of the day it’s about weight.
Just found your channel and noticed your 36th ID plaque on the wall. You just earned yourself a new subscriber.
Thanks brother! I left 2-142 in late 2021 as a SSG!

Brilliant advice....I totally agree....other countries have been making gold long before the US.
What's the difference between profit and a premium?

This is the truth of any business. You have to make a profit to stay open.
Definitely great points. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate Your advice and I do also agree

@@MrDavidknigge That’s a good deal for almost an ounce of gold.
Shouldn't that be the same with silver, buy the cheapest you can find...
Absolutely!
Great video. Stay your course, Russ. I appreciate your openness and honesty.
I appreciate your straightforward honest information. I understand dealers must make a profit or they will not be in business for long. Thanks!

What do think about keeping a portion of your holdings liquid while persuing foreign gold?
