This was a really good and thorough guide. The repair itself was kind of a nightmare. I bent the aluminum housing a little bit near the volume rocker, which is annoying but not a big deal. Anyway thanks for the guide.
Thanks for posting this, got the new digitizer on and phone back into shape after 2 hours, boy was this a doozy. Ruined my old screen when my daughter dropped it into her potty full of pee. Ironically, the screen was fine, but the germaphobe in me demanded that I dunk the thing in isopropyl alcohol. I thought pure alcohol was fine for electronics, but apparently not for the m8. When I took the phone out of the alcohol bath, there were bubbles all over the screen and you can see the alcohol seeping into the screen itself. No amount of drying fixed the issue. Apparently what happened was the isopropyl alcohol dissolved the glue holding together the screen assembly, and seeped inside. After partially taking apart the phone, the digitizer/screen literally delaminated like a onion into it's components - the LCD screen, polarizer sheets, digitizer, and a gloss sheet I'm assuming was a diffuser for the backlight. End up taking the delaminated layers out and drying them one by one with a hair dryer. Got rid of the bubbles, but the LCD screen was fubared with yellow ring of what I assumed to be dissolved glue. For anyone reading this, don't dunk your M8 into alcohol without a good reason. Though it did make dis-assembly much easier by weakening the fabric tape XD.
Thanks for the great video, at the last step, plug the power in, I see the amber light come on but no screen. Which connection should I check? Some of those tiny connections are a lil wonky.
+shane palting I would try a couple things. Is it recognized by a computer? if it was just a screen issue it would be the screen cable on the back right side of the phone probably (the longest one)
+How2Tech well i got the screen to come on and show a charge symbol, left it for 30m still no 1%. Hooked it up to my mac and it doesn't see any device with "Android File Transfer" must have something else wonky. Thanks for the quick reply, i'll keep fiddling w/this.
thank you the video is very helpful to me although i have manage to replace the lcd + digitizer the phone turn on fine but the touch screen not working at all all the connections are in place but no luck for the touch screen have tried with 2 different part any suggestions will be appreciated
I just got a screen and lcd replaced by so phone doctors and now the on screen keyboard is messed up, when you try to press the letter A the letter Q appears in stead, and its like that with a few letters, is that a messed up screen/lcd that they put on or is it something they didnt plug in all the way? can you please let me know so that I can tell the technicians before they start giving me excuses, thank you very much, great video by the way
This and other videos are just what I need. My original problem was simply a bad USB port, it wouldn't charge. While I was at it, I thought I'd replace the battery. Got to that stage of the video and discovered the supplier sent the wrong battery, so I used the old one. When I got to the depicted test stage, I get a strong blinking LED indicating that it's charging, so that is a big improvement. However, the screen no longer illuminates. At one point I thought I could make out a very faint image of the battery charging. I checked all the ribbons, and even dissembled the whole thing up to batter removal. Any suggestions to try for a dead screen this dead screen?
Firstly great Vid! I dropped my M8 in the bath and after drying it for a few days realized it seamed fine apart from nothing on the screen (daily alarm going off, messages and emails coming through). So i bought a new screen and digitizer, followed your steps in both vids to replace but it now wont charge. looked at it and seems though all connections have been put back into position ok. Any Ideas????
Hi thanks for this detailed and informative video. I had a cracked screen and used your video's to reassemble my device. However I now have an issue with the battery. The power seems to run down 3 times as fast. It also doesn't charge very well. It only had 80% after leaving it on charge over night. Do you have any idea's on what I should do or why this has happened?
I took apart the phone again, checked all the connections as you said, put it back together and it now doesn't turn on. With or with out the charge cable in I cant get it to turn on. I'm extremely worried that I've broken something. If you have any advise please please help.. Dan
Hi, i meticulously followed the directions for disassembling/reassembling my M8, but when I turn it on, it just shows a snowy screen. Does this mean I bought a bad replacement screen? Thanks in advance and thanks so much for providing this great video! :)
Hi replace a screen and phone has purple/white snow on the screen! could you please advice for solution, what is goin on? Phone was working befor but screen did have damage! Thanks for good demonstration!
hello, thank you for your nice video i am expert after your video :D i have a question i did evrything ok but the screen the adhesive tape is not stack to the phone, what you think is the problem the tape or i did something wrong? the screen is going out and i used black adhesive tape 1mm and 3mm! thank you
i try new tape and again the screen when is pushed one side is going open to other side, when i put the back cover then the problem start!!!(is the adhesive tape problem or something else?)
hi after i replace the screen the back light was not working. when i turn off all tights on my room, its appears very lowly. backlight not working bright. can you please give me a solution??? think in advance
Hello i was repairing the phone and im on the point where u stopped to test the phone the blue connecter is not connected but the other wires are, My phone is at 0% and when im trying to charge it the led light keeps blinking and the charging screen stays on there. What is the problem?
+Rtruth040xx I know this comment is old, but I had the same issue and the simple fix for me was just to reattach the batter connecter. (the silver piece with two screws you can see at 19:46.) Make sure its lined up correctly. After i did that I plugged it in and it charged right away. Good luck.
Is the 3M tape 1mm thick, what are the exact dimensions? I see that it is 1mm wide, but is the thicnkess also 1mm? On the bottom, can I use the same 3M tape as on the sides, or does it have to be thicker (I want flush screen)? Also, is it possible to replace glass only, are there any videos on this?
Zazmiz Yes you can use the same tape on the bottom as the sides but it might not stick as well. I am unsure of the the thickness but I believe they are mostly the same. I refer to the width of the tape 1mm, 3mm and 5mm are the most common.
RyanLuna909 Sorry man only make videos. I use iFixit tools www.ifixit.com/Store/Parts/54-Bit-Driver-Kit/IF145-022-1 You can probably get less expensive tools.
The video was great I plugged in the charger and the phones shows it charging with the battery display in green but when i try to turn on the phone nothing happens. Any tips about this issue? Has anyone else had this issue. The only screen that shows up is the battery with the green charging mode.
After a repeated disassemble-reassembly (and enough curse words to make a sailor blush), I'm having that same issue right now, except the led light is red and yellow for whatever reason. Did you solve the problem?
***** Sorry to hear, Alberto. :/ Oh, wow! You are quick. :P But it's been charging for over an hour, and yes; already tried a hard reset, much to no avail. Originally, only the LCD was broken, so the digitizer and rest of the phone both functioned until the dissection - but seeing how the screen isn't sitting exactly flush with the bevel (which was already damaged from the fall), that probably has something to do with it.
removing the glass is almost impossible unless you have really expensive equipment. Also you need a special glue otherwise the touch function goes haywire.
at 12:05 i caught myself yelling at you bc you put your damn thumb right on the lense and left an imprint...ugh...everytime i replay and see that makes me cringe and yell at you...every damn time. why?!?!
+carlos davalos You can get the screen here: www.etradesupply.com/htc-one-m8-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-black.html?acc=f4b9ec30ad9f68f89b29639786cb62ef
Cannot thank you enough for this. Tragically, such invasive surgery has left my poor phone in somewhat of a vegetative state right now; but should it decide to fully resurrect, I shall call you Jesus. Phone Jesus.
Brilliant, I am a complete novice and these 2 videos took me through step by step perfectly and saved me a small fortune
I did it!! I have never done anything like this before and followed the video step by step. Everything works perfectly! Thank you!
Lily Samardzic-Rafik That is awesome!
thank you!!!!! it takesme about 1 hour to change the display! the besttutorial over youtube :D
Did it first try without a single issue, thanks! This was WICKED easy!
Sufferred SWEET!
Thank you very much. I followed your instructions and it works perfectly.
This was a really good and thorough guide. The repair itself was kind of a nightmare. I bent the aluminum housing a little bit near the volume rocker, which is annoying but not a big deal. Anyway thanks for the guide.

Thank you for these vids, I was able to replace my screen!

Is there a way to do a glass only replacement? Like just the screen or no?
Hay i was wondering where did you get the tape that was used?
So do I need some tape of adhesive to hold the LCD into the frame?
I just got a screen and lcd replaced by so phone doctors and now the on screen keyboard is messed up, when you try to press the letter A the letter Q appears in stead, and its like that with a few letters, is that a messed up screen/lcd that they put on or is it something they didnt plug in all the way? can you please let me know so that I can tell the technicians before they start giving me excuses, thank you very much, great video by the way

Which double sided adhesive are you using? Where can I buy it? thanks
Hi, i meticulously followed the directions for disassembling/reassembling my M8, but when I turn it on, it just shows a snowy screen. Does this mean I bought a bad replacement screen? Thanks in advance and thanks so much for providing this great video! :)
Hi Mina! did you fix your phone, I do have thesame issue! If you did what has been wrong? Thanks in advance!
For the last part, the speaker grills, what adhesive would you suggest? Clear silicone or 2mm double sided tape?
Double sided tape works fine but silicone might give you a flusher finish. Either would work.
***** What do you mean by a flusher finish?
Roland Dave Double sided tape to me feels like it is raised higher than normal. Silicon might give it a more original feel.
***** Got it. Appreciate the quick reply.
Hi replace a screen and phone has purple/white snow on the screen! could you please advice for solution, what is goin on? Phone was working befor but screen did have damage! Thanks for good demonstration!
what do I need to do if my phone wont power one?
sim cards how do you put it back in which way
is there a way i can send you my phone for screen replacement
Thanks!!
Is the color quality and touch the same as of the originial pre-installed LCD on the m8?
Martin Castillo It seems very close but I have not compared side by side.
***** When I tried charging it after plugging everything in, the image on the screen is all distorted. What's wrong?

im having the same problem did you figure it out? Rtruth040xx
Yes I dont know the exact piece but u didnt put something in With the screws Jamie Anderson
Where 19:46 that little sliver part was not screwed in i think thats what fixed it
Rtruth040xx okay thanks I will try it again!

Did you solve the problem?
No I still have it in the same spot as that day I will attempt a second try soon.
How long did you leave it plugged in for? does anything appear if you use power and volume down at the same time?
***** Sorry to hear, Alberto. :/

I broke my lcd digitizer attempting to separate the glass for a glass only repair... going to order a new set ...
