I don't even care about the recipe, this lady is the Bob Ross of cooking. So relaxing
This is Bob Ross!
Adam Kuzmicki yes she is very nice lady
I love this video. I'm from AZ but live in Scotland now. This is my go to of all the videos out there. My friend Gilford taught me to take fry bread years ago at his home by Tuba City. This is the best recipe, thank you.
@@bex2229AZ Wow!!! Ive always wanted to go to Ireland or Scotland!!! How are you doing there? It is so far away! I am from Texas & have wished to go there. I have never ever heard of fry bread either. Found out about it just today. Have you made this recipe much? Ive watched 2 other shows where they did not use yeast or dry milk. I wonder is there much difference in taste? Thank you for answering!
@@d.b.4201 Hi😁. I do make fry bread a lot, reminds me of home. If I dont have dry milk I just leave it out and add whole milk, I can't always get it. I always use yeast, there are other recipes without, but I get a better result. I can't get shortening either, if I can it's REALLY expensive. I make due 😁 Scotland is beautiful, but I definitely miss the desert! I'm glad I can cook though, there's a lot of differences in ingredients, I can make almost anything 😁
Her voice reminds me of my aunts in South Dakota.
When she said "aye" I had to smile lol.
Same!
Lol Aye...
@Paris Shangreaux I got family that lives on Kyle in potato creek pine ridge, my grandma , uncle and cousins live there.
The best ever
last time I went ome to LAKOTA COUNTRY My sister made me Indian tacos . The Best Ever!!

I'm saying, we need to have an all nations Fry Bread Conference and World Championship. It would be great to see how the different nations make their bread, and to have a top fry bread maker crowned every year.
ua-cam.com/video/Pto1xNsk98o/v-deo.html
It sounds like a good idea on the surface but it might be too dangerous to put all the warrior nations against each other in a challenge 😜
That would be absolutely amazing. I'd certainly watch.
Definitely. I took 2nd place in a frybread competition one year at a Stockbridge Muncee pow wow
I agree with that❤
this is my favorite "how to make frybread" video. i like to hear her talk.
First time i hear someone speak like that, well at least an American Indian women. It's weird, but cool without a doubt.
***** it's weird for me because i've heard only Black women have this accent which is odd for me to hear a Native American with this same accent.
I love how my family talk they have a strong Navajo accent. I sadly didn't inherit because I was raised in MS lol.
Some do,.specially the older ones,.but this is Soo tribe,,...depends where from too,..In Canada is quite different,..Ojibways are top,.for everything,.French is easy for most,.
Phill black women...us you crazy, that sounds nothing like a black
Watched her today and I made some tonight. Literally the best video ever. I halved recipe also using 3 cups of water, and 9 cups of flour, 1 tsp salt, half cup oil, 1 TB yeast, 1/4c sugar., (it made 6 huge frybreads for tacos and 15 small ones) :) I wish I could thank her personally it was so good.
Ah da says and my*****ment gave me no thing for pow and here I sit *u*less
101 years old to me on superior big mouth carseat queen
Do I bring the bugs now weirdo
Native American matriarchs never let souls go hungry.
truest statemtn i've ever read my brother
Or cold.
I’m white. But my friend is native, he absolutely loves fry bread and for his birthday I wanted to try and make him some. This recipe helped me make amazing fry bread! Thank you so much!
How’s the birthday fry bread go?🙂
You’re such a good friend for that.
I am Cherokee. My grandma took too many shortcuts once Bisquick came along, so I never learned fry bread. THIS RECIPE IS THE BEST!!!! And I love the lady making the bread. I wish I were as calm as her. She is a jewel. This is the BEST video out there, the best best best! THANK YOU!
Finally! Someone that makes frybread the way I was taught!! Every step that you did was exactly the way I have always done it :) I enjoyed your video so much! Pilamiya Naomi :)
How much baking soda did she use??
@@bennysrsilva732 None. It's a yeast recipe, not baking powder* They don't used baking soda in either recipe.
I wonder then if the baking powder is just for prop lol
@@studywithclass9082 I was thinking the same thing that she wasn't giving us the full recipe, however I did use this recipe 3x using powder milk and melted lard makes a big differents
@@carlahernandez8081 Okay! Please help! Ive never even heard of Fry bread until today & Ive watched 3 diff versions. Could you please tell me what was the difference & maybe what works best for you! Thank you so much for help!
Woah, great recipe, I decided to make half the recipe, turned out 20 fry bread,12 cinnamon buns and 2 pizza shells! :) Thanks again
Looked ALL OVER the web for authentic fry bread the way it was made in Tempe, AZ, around 1998.. Was surprised to see so many website presenters were using baking powder. Tempe Plains people used yeast - and when the fry bread was pulled out of the frying oil onto a paper plate, all those waiting looked forward to the drizzling of honey over the top. THANKS SOOOOO MUCH for this video and recipe! This native "chef" is almost my age!
Just made me miss my grandma, mom and sister
Thanks for sharing, most my Lakota elders are past on now,so to see her cook and talk is very heart warming. My grandma taught me how to make bread and it was this way,she was from rosebud,I must teach my daughter now.
I have used this recipe several times and every time the bread comes out perfect. Thanks for sharing this with us.
This is the real. Reminds me of watching my mom and my aunties cook frybread growing up. I just wanted to give this lady a hug.
fry bread , fresh beans n chilli can't beat that :)
I’m half Comanche half Assiniboine but I was disconnected at a very young age, love videos like these to reconnect as much as I can. I’ve made this dozens of times at this point, amazing ❤️❤️
I am from new Zealand and fried bread is what we Maori grow up with. It is refreshing to see other nationalities making the same food that we eat. Awesome video and you explain the recipe step by step.
She has a very calming voice, easy to learn from. Looks delish!
Beautiful tutorial!
I never did get my grandmother's recipe before she passed, but your recipe looks like the same thing I watched her work with for a lot of years.
Thank you for that
Awh❤️ I’m full blood Sioux, from rosebud. She reminds me of my unchi rosemary, she passed away. 💖
I been making this exact recipe for my family for the past 4 years and it always comes out great ! I just wanna thank this woman
*Dancing in joy* OMG... this is it!!!!! My daughter is Ho-Chunk and we got the family together once to recreate the recipe to write it down. Her father lost the recipe and I have been searching for it ever since. I haven’t made it yet but can already tell this is FINALLY the correct recipe! I can’t thank you enough!!!
This is great! I grew up in Mission, SD and went to many feeds and pow wows. My mom was Hunkpapa and Mniconjou. She was born in Cheyenne Agency (now Eagle Butte) and we are members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. I miss my mom so much and I miss her frybread!
I am Mi'kmaq (Atlantic Canada) and we call fry bread, lusknikn - or luski, for short. Eventually it ended up being called "four cents" because of how cheap it is to make....lol. Normally I use a traditional recipe...using cat-tail pollen as a sweetener instead of sugar, and no milk...and for a real traditional version, I will cook it over an open fire, wrapped around a fresh, green, sugar maple branch...only using lard to baste it during the cooking process...or for frying it in if cooking it on stovetop...but everyone has their own recipe, and they all claim to make the best fry bread, ever...lol...
Yours looks yummy...I'm gonna try your recipe...I'm always interested in other types of fry bread...
Thank you for sharing!
Wooooowwww pollen?!
This is the way my momma made fry bread. Thank you for showing all of us the true traditional way.
Yes
This was uploaded 10 years ago, I’m so glad I clicked it now. I just make a bunch of bannock and a loaf of bread! It’s delicious!!!!
The best recipe I’ve come across by far. ♥️♥️& so easy!!!
🤗
Yep ❤🎉😋👍
@@sveltergamer5934is this like a much better version of the outside of a chalupa?
@@darkangelsoaps8258 I'm not sure what that means
@@sveltergamer5934 sorry I don't know enough about it to even properly ask the question. I will try again ... I know taco bell is just junk fast food but I'm trying to find out how to make the outside bread/shell of their Chalupa. The closest thing I've found is fry bread and I was asking if it is similar but of course much better. Like can it be folded and used with taco toppings?
I like how the lady worked so hard making all that fry bread and then all the fellas came in and ate it with coffee. It must have been really good! 💖😊
My boyfriend is native Deer Tribe of Omaha. He always tells me about the times that his father use to make fry bread, so I looked everywhere for a recipe. I watched a lot of videos when I landed on this one and your voice was so calm and relaxing. I felt good about this one and decided to try it. It worked....I got his seal of approval. ..THANKS
Man I tried a lot of different recipes of Indian bread this one on VHS is the best everrrr! Now many people are demanding my fry bread!
Would like to thank you for posting this. I am married to a Dakota man, and tried so many recipes for fry bread. Each time he would try it, and tell me it was delicious, but not quite right. And I would begin the search again. I made this recipe with you, and offered it to my husband again. He says it’s every bit as good as his grandmas was. That is high praise! I’ve made this recipe 8 or 9 times. I would make it more often, but there are just the two of us at home. I know I could half the recipe, but don’t want to mess with perfection. Lol.
Thank you for your recipe. Your voice and demeanor are so calm and soothing. Looks delicious.
Mrs. H her voice and demeanor are natural and what you actually find in most of us Lakota, its genetic, passed down from our ancestors, hard wired in our genes. and yes this frybread does look very well put together and I bet its tasty, I've my share of frybread. lol.
OMG what a wonderful lady...so relaxed..but also humor.. i love her soft laughter. AND this is the recp. i will try.. TO DAY :) !!!
My late wife was warms spring,,,she used to make this allot. I miss her and the bread. Thank you for sharing this and renewing some old memories.
Her FRY BREAD DOUGH recipe is:
5 pounds flour Apf
6 cups warm water
2 packages yeast OR 2 Tbsp baking Powder
1/2 cup sugar= 100 grams
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk or milk powder
1 cup oil
( 1 cup liquid is 240 ml, 1 pound = 455 grams )
Instant or regular yeast, please?
@@barbra429regular
@@barbra429She uses active dry, but you can use instant yeast. If you use instant, you don't need to dissolve in water and can add it directly in with the dry ingredients.
@@PositiveJ888 😊
How much cups of flour is 5 pounds?
If you make this bread any other way, its just not as good. I have made over 20 variations of frybread. Her technique is easily the best. Nailed it!
I have found and easy resipie too www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/fry-bread
Totally agree, this is the best tasting fry bread!
I make fry bread a few times a year. This is my go to recipe! love it!! thanks for posting this!
Looks very delicious 😋 Thank you for sharing.
Do you make as much? Can you divide in half or 1/3?
I use this all the time for all occasions, we have large families here in NZ and this feeds them all.
Did you use baking powder in this recipe??
@@bennysrsilva732 no baking powder as i found the yeast was enough
I found myself wanting to hit the thumbs up repeatedly and thank you ma'am. This needs to be a National Treasure video in the Library of Congress if it isn't already.
This is My very favorite of all the videos out there on how to make fry bread,. It's not as easy as it seems like it should be, there's an art to it and takes practice. Very accurate to the point and just helpful instruction wise . I have made this with my grandchildren. We only recently found out that we are part Cherokee & Souix. It's a heritage we're very proud to claim and can't wait to learn more about all things native. Thanks for doing this and teaching such a valuable skill.
Best fried bread video ever..she is so calm and her voice is very relaxing!after so many videos I tried to watch but ppl where to busy worrying about the camera it was good to see someone get straight to the point
I married a Native guy and he told me he wanted me to make "fry bread". We both looked for a good recipe and that was about10 years ago. I've been making it ever since. Everybody loves it.
This is how i was taught how to make fry bread, but lost recipe. Thank- You, so much for your time for putting this on so we can enjoy this again.
damn those commods bring back many memories! those were the good old days..
I’ve watched this video more than any other video on UA-cam I think 😂 she reminds me of my auntie and just hearing her talk reminds me of family so it makes my heart happy.
As soon as she said AYE I knew this was coming from a true indian :)
Ayee, what does it.mean again? When in context can it be used?
+courtney mizzou cammod ingredients..dead giveaway lol
right.. reminds me of my aunties, Rose, Iris, Marcy, and my other relatives back up north in Fort Bethold.

I love the sound of her voice...so, calm. This is a family I would love to have dinner with. I can just imagine my crazy Hispanic family and theirs, forget! good times.
Beautiful, The Great Spirit blesses us by letting us get lost in our spirits creating, cooking, gardening and working the land.
This is Beautiful Old School... my Uncle, that was a Navy cook, learned shortcuts that work and are very tasty, but Man this is the frybread I want to taste. Mouth is watering so much right now. BTW, I'm full-blood, but half Comanche, half Kiowa. The role system does not allow us to enroll full blood with either parent, only half. Just some info for any of those that did not know.
Thanks so much
My husband is also half Comanche and he’s enrolled with his tribe
My Kaku Suda Tahsuda Kosechata and her siblings all not with us anymore my Kaku was born in 1906 enrolled 4/4 Comanche my grandfather as well was enrolled 4/4 Comanche. You can only enroll in one tribe but if you’re full blood of one tribe, your enrolled full blood. I’m enrolled 7/8 Comanche tribal member.
my daughter is Ojibwe. Her family on her father's side live on a reservation in Wisconsin. They always say there is no recipe for fry bread and that they make it different every time. I wasn't sure if that was true, or it was just a recipe they didn't want to share, which is understandable of course. I've always wanted to try to make it from home and am glad I came across a video of someone who clearly knows what they are doing. Great video. your voice reminds me of my daughters grandmother. Very calm, soothing.
+iTrena my grandmother doesn't measure either! lol
+Heather Michelle you can make biscuit dough it's all the same.
Yay, its getting cool outside. Time to make fried bread. I really love this recipie. Thank for posting it. My family loves it . It brings my family closer when i make it. You r a blessing. Hope my family never forgets that we also have indian blood in our veins. Now its time to unite as brothers and sisters.
Best fry bread I have ever learned. Thank you so much Sweets. 🥰
This is one of the realest recipes I've ever seen on video. Truly awesome
This is the best video I’ve seen and I’ve watched many. I never get tired of seeing this. Thank you for sharing this.
I haven't tried the recipe yet. I haven't had fry bread since I visited my family on the res with my dad many years ago. I watched many videos, but I saved yours because I liked listening to you. You have a very soothing way about how you explain the process, and I liked the stories as well. I can't wait to try it out! Thanks for posting!
Reminds me when I made myself Navajo Fry Bread. Love her Vibe and culture in her Voice. 😊
Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial and your recipe!! I really like how you explained everything step by step. Thank you for that also! Just when I was about to give up on making my own fry bread, I found your video! Really excited to give this a try! Thanks again! You have some beautiful displays of art work on your page!
The best fry bread video ever! This was my first fry bread and I've had many others with different recipes, but nothing tastes the same - they are all missing something! Thanks for sharing this! :D
