We did not have a place to be or go, but we jumped on Amtrak's Coast Starlight and headed off on a three day train adventure. Our first time EVER overnight on a train. We had a roomette for day 1 or our train journey - and we'll give you a full tour. Day one is from Klamath Falls, Oregon to Portland. Totally not what we expected!

Those narrow stairs taught me you want bags no longer than 20 inches or so. The (clothing, medical) bags went in the upper bunk of the Roomette.
I love trains! I have been wanting to take a trip on Amtrak but I have seen reviews about how the cars haven't been updated in a long time...that has kept me from taking the leap. My other train adventures have included several trips on the Alaska Railroad (first class and coach) and lots of trains on a Europe trip back in 2000. Train through Switzerland was insanely pretty.

I have probably logged thousands of hours on trains over the years, and slept many of those hours, but never overnight. Just commuter trains for me.
@@evansmith7266 I think my only long ride was Punta Arenas to Santiago. No clue how long it was. But I for sure didn’t have a room! Not much else on a train.

Yes, twice - once to LA on the Coast Starlight, and then Back to Portland - in May 2021.
I became a train Nut from that trip.
You want a Roomette if you’re older, have serious health problems, and are (justifiably) socially phobic due to be disabled.
