I think the joke is specifically referencing how Hikaru likes to look at the ceiling while contemplating the game much like Beth.
i'm so obsessed with this soundtrack. the series itself is breathtaking but THE SCORE IS SO EPIC I JUST CAN'T

When I was a child I use to play video games in my head while laying in my bed.
I use to think I was crazy for doing that,I now know I am crazy and I'm ok with that! =]
I use to dream entire movies that don't exist,I've written them all down and one day I want to be a film maker so I can share my vision with others. It's such a beautiful world we live in,and I can't imagine living in a different one. All the things ive done and seen,the good and the bad,I wouldn't trade it for anything.
You're not only one here I thought you where talking about me I do the same I can also imagine an entire scene biased on a piece of music I don't know if you do that as well?

I haven't heard something like this in years. Upon listening to this song my whole body is in goosebumps and, tears just started collecting in my eyes purely because of the melody
I find it similar to the Harry Potter soundtrack or Pirates OTC, it kind of sweeps you away with the action of the movie

The grandeur of this music and the choreography during the last game of the series (chess pieces through the ceiling) was simply too much for me to handle. Had tears of joy!

“Let’s play…” what an ending
0:34 to 0:40 simply glorious! But then 0:41 to 0:47 - during these 7 seconds, God himself must composed this part through Mr. Rivera because it’s just beyond incredible! I feel lucky to have seen the show and listened to the sheer magic that is this piece of music.
Right after finishing the last episode(just now), I went straight back to the beginning of the 2nd episode when they look out the window at the couple who had come to adopt Beth. The music is what made that ordinary scene so special. Came looking for that but found something else.

Best soundtrack in a long time.
Very nice indeed. There are not that many series on television/streaming be it limited or otherwise that have such impactful music. Not only did it contribute greatly to the scenes but it is also very memorable imo. If i should hear this in a couple of years i'll probably still go "Oh yeah, that's from The Queen's Gambit."

As a young person who is passionate about scoring movies on the side of studying and hoping I can keep getting better, this is without any doubt the most inspiring soundtrack I've had the pleasure to experience as long as I'm alive. In a more or less sad modern reality where most Hollywood scores seem to be coming out of a factory line, this soundtrack is truly marvelous on restoring my hope on originality. I haven't heard such a fitting and original score from anyone but Desplat. Truly genius music!!!

Man, what an ecstatic composition, and the mixing of this track is absolutely marvelous.
I think those fast paced string ostinatos and many counterpoints showcase the quickness of Beth Harmon's brain when destroying her opponents during chess games.
This got me motivated more than ever to compose some music.

One of the best themes to go with the apt credits for queen's gambit. Black, white and all the gray in both the beauty and madness of chess. A masterpiece of a track for it. I humbly complement and laud the composer for this piece. It puts me in a pensive mood whenever I need to be.
