For safety reasons we gotta condem the house and replace all toilets and faucets. Then do a system flush...."
If you want the gas and go... it's gonna cost you the dough! 22 is expensive. I tell people all the time the prices will only get higher! Did a few gas and gos myself last week. Not everyone can afford to upgrade. Steve and the Baby dog are helping people to keep their cool!
Can anyone help me on what charging hoses are connected to this smart tool on the low and high side? I have never seen that tiny size hose in the market. Appreciate it. Thanks.
As always, a very entertaining and well put together video. The leak is what it is. People pay what they are willing to pay, or can at that time... I do have a question though. With a high head, low suction, high SH and high SC ( not sure what your amp draws were for added info) Do we suspect a restriction maybe a definite problem/worth a look at the td across the FLD? Thanks and keep up the great work and videos, the hvac youtube community is better with you in it!
He has plenty of videos doing leak searches. He will end up finding the evap leaking and be in the same situation. If you would waste time doing that on a 19 year old system you are nuts
It would be like putting a new $6000 engine into a used up $500 15 year old car. Even if a leak was found and fixed its still a used up old system. Why dump $500-1500 into fixing a leak.
m ph plus if you don't fix the leak you get to come back every year for a hundreds of dollars in refrigerant sales. and they think your doing them a favor, LOL
1987rx7guy all refrigerants are expensive these guys that are out here in the field working have to make a living as well to sustain their cost of living.
Where I work 22 is 40 per pound but we bought a stock pile of it years ago that's how we keep prices down but someone like Steve probably can't afford to buy a few hundred jugs at a time no offense Steve just making point.
AWESOME, this is my exact unit, which no less than five of these 'techs' said was too old to get parts for. Now they hype the 'old R22'...just criminals. I had one guy who fixed it and I'd let him do everything because he was an honest tech and didn't SELL systems. These other jokers here are commissioned salespeople and probably don't know how to repair. I'm tired of this industry and won't let them look at my unit anymore. Thieves (out here). BTW, how long should one of these RUUDs last? And if/when 22 is phased out (CA) will you be able to adapt to newer? (just like cars?)
if you were a trained HVAC Tech you would know what is and where to get it if you aren't EPA certified and certified in HVAC you shouldn't even be messing with it
Steven what is going to happen when can't get R 22 what your cost for a 30 pound cylinder your not doing any favor for customer if you gas go can't do that anymore the EPA law changing every one going have log the equipment that takes above 5 pounds .
Thats real world situation right there steve. To many youtubers scared to show the real situations you come across to often. Scared the youtube police are gonna call them out
I just had a HVAC repair man add a charge to my air-conditioner. He showed up with a bottle and gauges and just charged it. There was no scale. When His helper asked how much was in thetank he said about 1/4. Should I trust him to put in new unit? Or find someone else.
Absolutely not. He probably didn't even get the charge right if he just showed up with a tank and gauges. (1) Make sure you have good airflow inside and out. (2) see what kind of metering device you're dealing with. (3) charge accordingly. If he didn't do that, he didn't do it right. Period!
Bull Ainsworth repair men should understand, just because I'm a woman, doesn't mean I don't follow repairmen on UA-cam! I follow, tree arborist, plumbers, car repair men, etc...we now have access to great info. Jerks... I should have said where is your scale? I dang will next time!
catbirdfeeder It's not so much that he didn't have a scale. Although it is necessary so knows how much refrigerant he used to charge your unit for billing purposes. It isn't necessary in order for him to get the proper amount of refrigerant in your unit. It's the other stuff I mentioned that tells me he didn't do a good job. Along with checking airflow inside and outside, depending on the metering device at the evaporator, he should've either taken a wet bulb and dry bulb measurement, or determined what the sub-cool number for the condensing unit is. With that information he could then determine exactly how to go about getting the refrigerant level correct in your system. In a nut shell, charging an AC properly is a little more involved than walking up with some gauges and a jug of refrigerant. I hope this info will help you in the future. I really hate it when I hear about guys who work this way. It makes it tough on those of us who try to do a good job for our customers.
@@bullainsworth3130 'try to do a good job for our customers'? Are you new? Just kidding. I'm conviced all techs aren't bad and even the bad ones don't start like that, but I think the industry teaches most to be cheats ('you gotta sell more', 'why aren't you ugrading?', we're offering double commission on new AC units')....creeps.
I hate gas and goes. They can keep paying until that compressor finally fails from being flooded (low air flow) and then over heating with high superheat. She's gonna blow
This guy is old school. I love that!

I like the Sporlan setup Steve, nice job as always! Thanks so much for the education!

Giving the condenser a quick douche Mama! 🤣
Question to the smart professional man if I leave my AC running while evaporator is frozen will I lose Freon / R22??
They sell R22 on Ebay for $200 for a 15lb can or $150 for 10lb can with free delivery. Where are you people buying the R22 from?????
same place
Hey Steve did you forget your gloves on this job
Why don't you ever leak search?
He has plenty of videos doing leak searches. He will end up finding the evap leaking and be in the same situation. If you would waste time doing that on a 19 year old system you are nuts

ps not bagging on Steve, it's just the way it is.
all fine and dandy, you're lucky your state doesn't regulate how you handle refrigerant, many places dont allow you to charge and go
No leak repair?
$400! I just had the same thing done to mine for $160 and 4 lbs of RU22.
Damn $100/lb? I thought 50 was high on one of my systems here at home o.o
1987rx7guy all refrigerants are expensive these guys that are out here in the field working have to make a living as well to sustain their cost of living.
It depends which state you are in the refrigerant is expensive here in California

Never heard of 407C??
Well if its gonna be that hard to come across then most techs wont have it which means they will have no choice but to replace the old unit
Thats real world situation right there steve. To many youtubers scared to show the real situations you come across to often. Scared the youtube police are gonna call them out
Real world situation is fighting off a Pitt bull with the a/c door because "forgot you were out there".

you can get 25 years out of a system, 19 is nothing
First you have to leak search
Fix the leak .

I hate gas and goes. They can keep paying until that compressor finally fails from being flooded (low air flow) and then over heating with high superheat. She's gonna blow
