- Hi friends! Welcome to a new video! Today's video is on the truth about college musical theatre. I am a rising sophomore at the University of Michigan studying musical theatre so I thought I'd share some tips/truths on how my first year went. omg this made me feel so much better about everything im auditioning for mt programs this fall and I am SO NERVOUS !!! mt is the only thing that I am THIS passionate about and I truly feel like I found what I was meant to do and I hope im right. but anyway I think its so cool because we decided we wanted to be mt majors at the same points in our junior years !!!
I'm a high schooler in my sophomore year and am already nervous I won't make it into any colleges, and I know that's unrealistic but I don't know how to grow enough in such a short time to make it into colleges, Like you, I'm not a "strong mover" or a dancer, and I don't have the time or finances to take a class and I don't know how to improve, sorry this turned into a bit of a rant, but UMICH is my dream school and I really admire you for getting in, but thank you so much for this
I totally understand and relate to you not knowing how you can grow in such a short time. I started theatre my sophomore year and I’m now a senior. I constantly feel like I don’t know enough, but I’m learning that there’s so much information online that I can gain. Have you tried ballet classes on UA-cam? I had to do a lot of UA-cam classes during quarantine. There’s definitely some good ballet videos. I suggest Kathryn Morgan for ballet classes! I’m currently having to try to find tap classes on here because that’s something I haven’t learned. Just know that you are 100% capable of learning what you need to get into the college that’s right for you!💛

I’m a sophomore too and I’m definitely already thinking so much about what I can do to get better to get into a program! Look up Rodney Howell on UA-cam- he has some great online tap classes for a bunch of different levels with technique and combos :)

@@orchidsarepretty1422 I am currently in the process of applying to schools! I’m trying to send my pre screens in early so I can focus on community college. (I plan to transfer to a MT program)

I'm from México and I would like study there, in University of Michigan, because I love musical theatre; but, here, we don't have too much preparation like there and is a very small industry. It's too hard.

Do you have to have a certain amount of ballet experience for musical theatre at university of Michigan
Do you have any advice for someone that has no experience in Musical Theatre before hand. My current situation is quite complicated. Where I am living does not have any theatre classes for high schoolers but next fall I'm going to be at a different school for senior year so hopefully they have a theatre program, would then be too late. Also I have no vocal training, never taken any dance lessons either.
hello love! musical theatre prescreens are due by the fall of your senior year in high school. if you’re not familiar with this process, google “musical theatre prescreens” or videos on youtube. most people will start preparing for these prescreens towards the end of their junior year (so for you, in a few months) and then film them late summer/september. this is an overwhelming and expensive process, but if you love this, DO NOT be discouraged! also, make sure to take advantage of the opportunities available online during this pandemic. watch as many online performances as you can, check out virtual dance classes (Kathryn Morgan on youtube has great classes, and I know laduca shoes on instagram and Tiler Peck have classes on instagram). also, if it’s within your budget, voice lessons will help you TREMENDOUSLY. i totally understand that this isn’t doable for everyone, but if you can find a way to meet with a voice teacher at least a few times (even virtually) before your prescreens, it will help you greatly. best of luck, and follow your dreams!

Hi. Thank you for your video. Please can you clarify one point please. How many hours face 2 face coaching do you receive per week? Is this the same across all MT college courses or dependent on which college you attend. Very hard to source that info beforehand. Thank you.
