  • By 1972 the Spinners had moved from sitting on the shelf at Motown, to a rejuvenated career with Atlantic Records. Thom Bell at Philadelphia International Records contributed immensely to that success. Mervin and Melvin Steals, twin brothers from Aliquippa, Pennsylvania had a song that they wrote, and they brought it to Thom Bell. "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" was the 2d single released by The Spinners on this self-titled album, after "I'll Be Around." It was no. 1 on the R&B chart, and no. 4 on the pop chart at Billboard. Melvin and his wife Adrena, about whom the song was penned, tell Tom about their magical, musical journey.

Great interview. So pleased that you are taking the time to track down these important Soul/R&B pioneers and allowing them to tell their stories and have them preserved for history. A vitally important project that future generations will appreciate.

This is is such a fabulous interview about one of my life long favorite songs and the beautiful boys--and a gal--who brought it to being a 1973 hit song in myvhigh scho senior year. Thank you for an inspiring listen.❤
