What makes Elvis so unique, is that a poor, marginalised white boy, considered subhuman by other whites, who grew up in poor African American areas, enveloped by Sanctified churches, would be the catalyst for change. Before Elvis there was a "Coloured Section" in music stores, after Elvis that section was gone, and that African American music, was mainstreamed and in the normal part of the music store. These are the things, he should be heralded for. An accidental revolutionary. 👍

OMG, that is so true! But EP didn't do street drugs, he took them because doctor and Col. Parker told him he needed them and that's what happened with the meds he was taking! Then all the people that was jealous of him told dam lies and acted like EP was drug addict because he took what his doctor said he needed! EP was only used by the people around him, they loved the money and gifts he gave all cars, house's, money etc. EP give millions of dollars to people in need! They did care about EP!!!

Elvis was so close with black community and he always defended them, because he actually learned everything from them and that's the "it has everything to do with us" comes from. So much respect for him.
Also it's Butler who is singing when he was younger wich is crazy, but the older ones are Elvis himself.

I'm reminded that Elvis' manager came from a carnival background, so that is how he managed Elvis, as a carny attraction, "the greatest show on earth." Elvis really thought he would not be remembered because, as he saw it, he'd never done a classic movie or sung a classic song. 🤷

    • @reneebush2399

    * * * There's more to Elvis than just R&B. He wasn't an R&B clone. If you listen to his version vs the originals he covered, you'll see the difference in the "emerging rock & roll" vs the blues. Hound Dog for example (Mama Thorton vs Elvis) check out the original studio version of both and youll see how elvis would speed things up & give it a stronger beat.
Also Missing from this movie is his Country Music Roots. Rock & Roll is not just R&B. Elvis fused Country with Blues and his own brand of Rock & Roll was born.
Also missing is the fact that Elvis biggest influence was not R&B it was Pop Ballad singers like Dean Martin & Bing Crosby. He did not set out to be an R&B singer, nor was he.
Even Gospel music, which the trailer shows, there were other influences beside those in the community. At age 14, he met JD SUMNER (of the Stamps Gospel Quartet), which he came to see during an all-nigh hymn sing in Memphis. JD was a big influence on him, and later joined his band!

As an elvis fan for 40 years this is going to open the eyes of alot of people . It concentrates on elvis and his manager and on elvis generosity to everyone especially the black community. He never took credit or wanted people to know what he did . But the director Baz is a big elvis fan and spent 2 years research at Graceland Archives . Version presley kept Everything so all the cheques he wrote to poor community are there .
This is going to be a great film

Elvis has regularly donated to over 50 charities. Including to organizations that help poor black people. This can be seen in the Graceland archive. Baz Luhrmann interview with Elvis's childhood friend Sam Bell was good. I don't know if it will be a complete story, since some names are not on the cast yet. They have BB King but not Rufus Thomas for the 56 and 57 WDIA Goodwill Revue, they have Arthur big boy Crudup but not Lester Melrose (his agent that kept his royalties from him) and Louie Robinson for the "The truth about that Elvis Presley rumor." (Jet Magazine, August 01, 1957) interview. You never know though. It will be worth it.

The movie was fire!!! IMO There were women throwing panties on stage, jealous boyfriends, all kinds of stuff. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr shooting was mentioned, which caused Elvis to perform his "If I Can Dream" song on TV. If you have not seen this movie, Please watch it, you won't be disappointed. No, he doesn't look like Elvis, but he sure sounds like him. Tom Hanks is in this, he played Elvis' slimy manager, Col. Parker.

Watch the interviews that Baz done before making the movie because he knew if he got something wrong, there would be one of the worse backlashes ever from his family and fans!!! Mr. Sam Bell died not long after the interview . He loved EP and EP loved his friends. You really need to watch them, you will learn a lot about EP and, the black community!

I know Carolyn! I saw him several times in Greensboro NC....
Still the best nights of my life!
      There was nothing like it!
His charisma reached your seat the minute he walked out on stage.
I love here, how they added at the end.. 'Elvis has left the building'.
For those who do not know....At his 70's concerts, this is what was 'blasted' repeatedly from the intercom after the performance.
They knew we young women were trying to find him. :-)
We stalked the airport and tried repeatedly to get to his hotel room, without much success. LOL
He was a legend in his own time and literally changed the course of American music.
This trailer is so authentic...the hair styles..the clothes, the reactions of the girls......etc...
I feel as if I am back in the 50's 60's and 70's.
He also really did make the statement...'no one will remember me'.
      If he only knew......
I pray that this movie does him justice.
I saw an interview with Priscilla Presley a few weeks ago.
She said Baz Luhrmann had made her promise not to see this, until she could watch it with him.
It will be interesting to see what the Presley family thinks of it.

So true! Brings back my personal memories of going to the hotel he was staying at after the show and waiting with hundreds of people as we waited for his limo to show up. We tried to take the elevator up to his room…..the elevator was padded. That was after seeing him perform at the Anaheim Convention Center. Amazingly, I first saw him at the International Hotel in 1970. And multiple Las Vegas performances and concerts. HE WAS AMAZING. I was devastated when he passed, as was my entire family. Never have I experienced the excitement he generated…..his CHARISMA WAS OFF THE CHARTS. His voice penetrated your soul. He was just……….Elvis….no one like him and never will be. He was an original, authentic and pure Gold!

@@Newuser03 So well said! You described him perfectly! I hate I missed the Vegas performances. I did not visit Vegas until the 90's. Your post brings back more memories, Laura. I also tried so many times to get to his hotel room. I made it up the elevator numerous times, but they always had guys guarding it when it opened on his floor so you could not get off. Later they adjusted the elevator so it would not stop on that floor at all. I once tried to climb up balconies on the outside of a Hilton, but did not get very far. LOL When I was newly married, I attended a concert with my husband. When Elvis came out, everyone including myself was trying to get up to the stage to see him better. I was on the 16th row this time. My husband was so annoyed. I said "you did not think I was actually going to stay on the 16th row, did you?' LOL I would not trade those concert memories for anything! Most especially my night on the 2nd row.....

@@GenieKOHara So exciting! We should of been hanging out together!!! My friends were not as persistent as I was… a little too timid. We did get to the front row in Vegas a few times and tried to get a scarf and kiss! I wasn’t bold enough to push through the taller women, but we did get a picture of him kissing the girl in front of us….ughhhh…oh so close. I had the best seats in Vegas early years. The concerts were wild. Like you said, the minute he walked on stage it was like everyone was hypnotized! What artist out there today can captivate an audience the way he did. Add the voice, his humbleness and the whole package and just WOW. The best entertainer that ever lived. A legend. Human, with faults like all of us, but he brought a lot of happiness to people and continues to today through his music and videos….and oh the memories that will last through our lifetimes. We were blessed to see him live!

    • @GenieKOHara
      @GenieKOHara 2 роки тому +1

@@Newuser03 @Laura Tilghman LOL Yes Laura.. We indeed should have been hanging out together! :-) Like yours, my friends were also not as persistent. When I was on that 16th row, I had to fight through people and climb over chairs to get to the front. :-) Elvis threw me a scarf when I was on the second row. I caught it, but the woman behind me grabbed the other end of it. I was so annoyed because he looked at me and said 'here'. It was more than obvious that he threw it to me. Neither one of us would let go. They were going to throw us both out. I had fingernail scissors in my purse, so I cut it in half. This was the only way I could get the security guard to leave. When I was married, my husband was going to take me to the Bahamas. My friends all laughed at me because I said, "I want to go to Memphis.". Back then, Elvis' Uncle Vester was guarding the gate. It looked much different there, than it does today. There was no place to park. It was drizzling rain and my husband went to park the car. I was standing on a brick wall about a foot high, trying to see over the brick wall. No one else was there that day. I thought I heard someone say something, but convinced myself I was imagining it. Vester than appeared and said, "I will let you in'. Those musical gates swung open. I ran and was halfway up the hill (without my new husband LOL) when he yelled, 'Wait, I will ride you up in the golf cart.'. My husband was still trying to park the car and arrived back, just as Vester came with the golf cart. :-) Vester told us that we could not go inside or around back, but could sit on the porch and take all the photos we wanted out front.

@@seungcheolswife That's f'd up. Elvis was a pioneer. One of the architects of Rock and Roll. He did not steal black music (or anyone else's music). The 1950s was an era of music and culture experimentation and many thousands of hours jamming melding of R&B, Gospel and Rockabilly. Elvis was a genuine part of this era and new sound. He was a pioneer. Not first. But still a pioneer. In that era, it was an age of legendary song writers. Elvis performed 800 songs. He was a musician who played great rhythm guitar and piano and boy could HE SING. Legendary sought after rich baritone. ZERO of his works were stolen. EVERY SONG WRITER GOT PAID, and some paid really well (Little Richard. Otis Blackwell.) Yes -- Including the black song writers that sold their music to Elvis to perform. Legends such as Al Green, BB King, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr, Chuck Berry and Little Richard roamed the Earth at the same time Elvis did and they all knew Elvis, loved him, and praised him very highly. Elvis merged black and white music to help form Rock and Roll jolted a youth movement and civil rights movement to the forefront so both could succeed. It’s safe to say you know nothing about Elvis. Elvis learned to dance in a black Baptist Church as a child. It was absolutely a part of his music. I love Tom Hanks and I don’t want to see him as the Col. Elvis’s manager. I do not like him, he took 50% of everything Elvis earned and he made him make movies he hated. Elvis wanted to make good movies without singing, not stupid teen stuff that was all the same. Even the two old movies he got to make were not his choice. He was owned.
I can tell you when Elvis died and when he was born. He was born the same year as my Mother and she died just weeks after him. He was 43 in 1977 and gone way too soon.
