Thank you very much for this. We have to keep shouting about PSprout greatness, maybe that way we'll get some more material in the future. Your opinions are well founded, though I beg to differ in some rankings. Andromeda is pure delight (I remember the Mojo reviewer saying he "was on his knees" after hearing it). The last two albums have some great songs but lack the human touch of real musicians playing on them. And what about the acoustic version of Steve McQueen? That was an album onto itself, though not with new material, and was gorgeous!

I used to have a huge crush on Wendy Smith. What an angel. Oh, and Prefab Sprout is the best band ever. First album I ever bought was Steve McQueen.

That is about as good of a first album as anyone can buy!

Thanks, enjoyed listening to this as Prefab Sprout is my favorite band ever. I think it would be fair to note that Let's Change the World With Music is basically demos from the 90s, so basically with no production. From that album, I would highlight Music is a Princess,, which would make my list of favorite Prefab Sprout albums. I find the spiritual theme that runs through the album uplifting and not cheesy. :-) Also disagree on the final section on Jordan: The Comeback, the spiritual, One of the Broken has a very profound spiritual message in the lyrics, and so does Doo Wop in Harlem. I also really like the words to When you get to know me better from The Gunman and other songs. Other than that I am with you all the way in your analysis,, although I probably like Andromeda Heights better than you do. All the best to you from Nigeria!

Thanks a lot for listening! I'm hoping the final section of Jordan: The Comeback will grow on me over time.

I concur with your assessment of this band. Other than switching out Protest Songs with Langley Park, I would agree with your ranking also. More people need to explore the earlier work of this incredible band. 😎

Great band fronted by one of the most talented and prolific songwriters but I still can't decide on the ranking. My favourite album is Jordan: The Comeback, possibly followed by Steve McQueen, but I haven't heard Andromeda and Gunman yet, only the singles (A Prisoner of the past, Electric guitars, Cowboy dreams). I used to love LCTWWM when it came out, played it a lot, it's full of heart but it's not a very clever record in retrospect. I still like it musically, more so than Swoon or Protest Songs. I Trawl The Megahertz is another great one but it's hard to compare a mostly instrumental record with albums full of songs with so much poetry and eloquence. The title track is in my top 10, other favourites are The Sound of Crying, The Ice Maiden and Wild Horses.

Broadly agree with this, although I'd have given Crimson Red an A and Let's Change the World with Music a B. I adored their first five albums, but the great mystery of their career for me will always be why they failed to capitalise on the success of Jordan: The Comeback, which was followed by a seven-year hiatus and then a relatively poor offering in the shape of Andromeda Heights. Jordan was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 1990. I think an equally strong follow-up in 1992 or '93 would have cemented their standing as one of Britain's greatest bands.
