In the Name of Allah A New Muslim should understand the principles of Islam and begin the process of living life according to the principles and study. But it should begin as a process.
I agree with you about bringing food for the other kids or just taking his son out. The reason being, is that when the man had a relationship with the woman, the other children were acquainted with him. It would be disingenuous for him to just leave food for one child. I grew up, and my father would bring enough food if he knew there were other children in my company.
