That Gladiator switch feels like such a rug pull to get us to spend more. A lot of us skipped him and Grandmaster and this would’ve been a good week for us middle road players that have been on for 6+ months; while the X-23/Modok week would’ve been a good pull week for new players wanting necessary cards for their archetype. It’s like they checked the collection metrics last minute and said wait let’s change it.
I was sooo excited for tomorrow to get Gladiator, but alas, greedy devs changed to cards I already have. Now as an F2P, I don't want to spend keys on makkari and x23 just for the chance of gladiator, I hate makkari, and already have a spotlight variant of x23. I'll be getting phastos though. July seems fun
I am no way near collection complete but I have most of theee spotlight cards. That to me says this is a bad month. Seeing all the common spotlight card X-23 and Nebula seem to be in one cache a month
The Spotlight Cache system in general can use an update. I've been kicking around this idea in my head for a while: S4/5 draw - if you pull something you don't own should give you 1/2 value of tokens (S5=3K tokens, S4=1.5K. At minimum make it 2K/1K.) For the other cards if you draw a card you own, instead of automatically giving you the variant give you the choice between the variant or a nominal value in tokens (500 Tokens).
From my perspective on spotlight caches and keys, I've gotten into a situation where I basically pick 1 week per month and I save up through weekly grind and season pass rewards to collect at least 4 keys and see how I fare. I don't even think so much about the new card until you or Cozy tell me how good something is. My focus is on catching up my backlog of good cards I've missed. For May, that was Sasquatch. Cost me most of my keys but I got there. I couldn't tell you what the other ones were because I had them already but I pulled the variants just trying to get the guy I wanted. For June, it's looking like that will be Phastos week. I already pulled that Spider-Ham variant through a collection reward, so if I land in that spot, I'm curious what I could get. I'm gonna be spending my keys on Corvis and Phastos for sure. In July, it's gonna be the Copycat week. I've been wanting Cull Obsidian especially with some Bounce and Black Swan ideas I've been having. Plus I've gone FAR too long to not have the Mad Titan in my ranks. I know he's a shell of his former self, but pendulums swing both ways. It's only a matter of time. I feel the same way about him as I do Galactus. They may not always be meta, but they can still be fun to have. Sucks to think that I might be passing up on Arisham to get the most mileage out of my keys, but tokens cost WAY too much and take too long to procure. The economy of tokens is whack as hell. We get them 100 at a time, but everything costs 3k to 6k. They either need to give them to us more often or give more per drop. I would be more hype about the Nova/Hope/Midnight week, but since I have Hope and Proxima, it's less of a priority especially since there's no guarantee I'll have the keys for it after pulling the week before. I don't like spending money on games like this so I'm getting what I pay for, but I can't even feel comfortable getting people into the game because it's so hard to get all the pieces and I've been playing non stop for like a year or two at this point. Should I be playing more Conquest? Would that give me more resources in a more timely manner? I do still love this game, but sometimes the tilt is real lol
I am F2P. Since Launch. I play on Android Mobile , if you are on Android or have access to Android I would suggest singing up for Google survey rewards if you can get a lot of surveys completed you can use the reward money to buy your season pass or gold pass . Also I have taken to usually only upgrading from Grey or green border straight to infinite as much as I can and have been hording Grey borders . I'm currently around 13000-ish CL and am missing around 20 total cards . Good Luck !
@@shanedbunting I had no idea Google had a survey rewards program. I did pick up on Alex's advice to always go to green border on upgrades, but I haven't thought about waiting to go all the way up to infinite from there. I'm like around 8500 or 8600 last time I checked. Might do me some good to prioritize full sends especially since the collection can sort by booster count now. Thanks for the advice.
@@rider0zecter I just checked my collection and I totally could've sworn I had seen that variant come up while I was playing the game, but it's actually not there. Maybe I got confused or dreamed it or something. That's really weird. Maybe it's foreshadowing.
@@AcePlaysTCGs LOL maybe 😄. i don't blame you. All the spider ham variants looks similar. When I first saw it I'm like "not that kind of variant again". If it was the venomized or the hotdog one, I gladly use 1 key for it. For now let's hope we both don't get it. Finger crossed
5:17 they've been doing this for months, even back when elsa bloodstone was a season pass card. I was saving my keys for loki week but just before spotlight release they shuffled the worst junk into it so i decided to pass and quit the game since
Thanks for your honest opinion. June is BY FAR the worst spotlights month EVER. Truly awful weeks. Im collection complete since December, opening for every single garbage since then. But this Month im not going to be collection complete anymore Thena > Tokens Sersi > Skip Makari > Skip Phastos > caches Arishem > Tokens
I was collection complete until last month. I didn’t get Valentina and I don’t regret it. Once I overcame FOMO I realized that I didn’t need to spend so much time on a game that doesn’t feel rewarding. I’m going to wait to see what their IGN announcement is. If it doesn’t include an overhaul to the collection and reward system(character mastery cough cough) then I will no longer support the game with an automatic season pass each month.
@@Moddox77 Even though i liked the last 2 Month cards, i agree on the fact that the Game is feeling worst and worst to play every time. I Hope Bald Man gets nerfed to oblivium and a good IGN annoucement. Valentina was the worst card last Month, Safe Skip. This Month was good too imo, and July seems fun and powerfull. But June seems awful. Time to hoard and wait. But im on the Edge of quitting too
@@spystar18 Miek and PF on the caches is terrible man. And i dont want to spend tokens 3 times in a Month, im not a whale. I have tokens for 4 cards only. Also what i would play Sersi when i can play Blink? But Will see... Maybe if Sersi breaks the meta ill pull the trigger

Looks like Hydra Bob has changed in the last patch - he’s now a 1/4 that moves each turn if a player has snapped. Pretty interesting card now, maybe even more so than before.
Modok is irreplaceable in Hela and reliable discard. It is probably one of the most important cards to be in spotlight weeks with new players as it opens up great archtypes
As someone with 15 keys and over 10,000 Tokens, while pretty much having all good cards in the game there is only about 3 new cards I want from this season and next. Which is certainly not a bad thing been able to save up even more resources but at this point grind for progression has ended for me, and I struggle to find that grip to keep me playing. Still gonna because I don't want to fall behind but all I can say is I hope that announcement is truly something good.
I'm only using my keys on the weeks where I'm missing 2 cards. Worst case scenario I spend 4 keys and get 2 new cards, best case scenario I use 2 keys and get 2 cards (this week I got Thena and GrandMaster for example)
Just moved into a house that needs a lot of tlc. Great timing to play vary sparingly this month seeing this month looks very meh. Try and collect a key here and there for next month. Looking much better.
I actually don't hate the Arishem week because I enjoy the variants quite a bit. But that's my own bias for enjoying those cards more than I should and not being a new playing looking to get a lot of new cards. I am sad about the Thena week because I plan on getting her spotlight variant and I was happy with both Gladiator and Grandmaster. I was tempted to try and get only the X-23 variant on Makarri's week and now that Gladiator is on it, they may have pulled me into trying. Thats one where I hope I "miss" though. Lol
God knows they need to buff him. In terms of playability, he is easily in the bottom five in the entire game. I love pure Move decks and Mobster Move. He is way too clunky at that cost to play in either.
Hercules sounds great and I've been wanting to get him! He seems great to enhance move decks and just give an extra bonus for free, or he could be used on the opposite and used with Kingpin so if an opponent doesn't move in the right lane, Hercules can do that job by pushing them again! I just also really like movement decks haha
I definitely have heard the concept of series 4 cards being worth less for the spotlight keys before, and the logic makes some sense to me. However, if you take into consideration that the 4th spot in the cache is weighted towards series 4 cards, would that change your perspective? Basically, S5 cards are near impossible to get through the 4th spot, but you might get lucky with S4.
June may be disappointing for long time players, but for a relatively new (about 2 months) player like me, I need some of these key cards, like X-23 for example. I got Hela for my free series 3 card this month, I spent 1 key trying for Modok, got Grandmaster, I probably should just save up for Corvus.
Im going hard for sersi, people are sleeping on that card. Originally i wanted phastos the most but sersi is going to be a surprise meta card in a newish archetype with blink and Jubilee. Plus i dont have meik so id be happy to get it even if i never use it.
I may not even get the season pass card this month, I’m certainly not using my keys, June is absolutely trash, but I guess that fits with The Eternals as a film too
The sad thing is that I will probably have 3 keys on the Arishem week, so I might be one of those unfortunate people 😅 (it already happened to me three times with Cull Obsidian, Red Hulk, and Sasquatch)
I wonder if Cassandra Nova would work in Darkhawk. Would she drain the rocks from Korg and Rockslide from 0 to -1 making the opponents draw even worse?
I honestly think the reason we see x-23 and Modok often is for newer players as these two cards are critical for the destroy and dicard archtypes and it gives newer players regular access to them. And these two decks can also be built on a Series 3-4 except for these two cards (you can argue Proxima Midnight for discard but the deck can function without her).
If they want newer players to have access to them, then they should series drop them... Like that's the entire point of the series system. They shouldn't clog up the spotlight system with them.
@@freeofgreed Yeah but as a company, they also need to make money, so like Alex said they give duds to long-term players. If SD wanted to series drop these two cards they would have done it ages ago. Seeing as they are not, thus my thought process is based on my first comment.
@@pjjacobs286 There's plenty of ways to make money in ways that are significantly less scummy. Obviously they're doing this to make money but that doesn't change how slimy it is.
This is a best case scenario gang, considering the scenario is rolling these cashes. I'll restack some keys, and I'm really hoping that Arishem brings some life back to card creation. It's been so long since it has been good or ever really playable, hope I don't get Hercules and uninstall.
The only 2 weeks that interest me are the phastos week cause of phastos but cause of corvus glaive dont have him yet and the cassandra nova week for proxima midnight dont have her yet thats it everything else im skipping
I just can’t justify using 2 months worth of keys to possibly get 1 card…. I don’t play as much so 4 keys takes me like 2-3 months. And if I have the other 2 cards, there is a chance I use 4 keys and get 1 new card…. I just can’t convince myself to get a new card.
Was looking forward to Hydra Bob because I’d finally get Galactus too (just to have him and never use him). But the datamines show that Bob was changed and now he seems pretty bad so that’s another skip.
I have every X-23 variant. I can't stop now. Edit: Funnily enough, we always joke about Knull having so many spotlight variants, but X-23 actually has the most. By an extra 1. 🤣
I was looking forward to Sersi but people helped my realized all the potential bad draws she can have so I think I’m gonna skip lol everything until Phastos and Arishem. Really need to get lucky on the last week lol
I'm still intrigued by Makkari even though she's trash and I don't have Gladiator so I'm definitely spinning that week. Spinning on Phastos week as well as much as I already have the other cards. Feels like more people have Corvus Glaive than Proxima Midnight (me included). They could check the stats and put Proxima instead of Corvus. Arishem is fun but the week is ass. I'll spend one key if anything. I don't have Kitty Pryde or Hope Summers so the bounce package means nothing to me. I can skip Thena, Sersi is also a skip lol so I'll be saving up keys for a while
Gladiator and x23 in the same week im saving keys for them maybe get phenix too with some luck. Just like the immortals movie disney made the cards for thim also do not thrill me
I get what you’re saying for people that have been around for awhile…but they have to appeal to newer players too. Modok and X23 are good for those people trying to make those staple decks
they should change the black swan and supergiant effect like how they change spider from its release to the latest version. Change SG and BS to be i discard archetype
@@rainmanmarcus7208 Thanks for the reply. Oh I see, sorry I thought you meant swapped him from dropping down a series. My friends pretty annoyed as he wanted him. Even more annoyed as he pulled Modoc from a spotlight, when it could have been Gladiator! 😂
Arishem seems like a must and surfer is a top 3 deck for me so phastos seems like a no brainer, then big save for July also 100% going for the Ajax week for that beautiful beta ray variant
Yesterday i reported one proving ground bot and today i got a response from 2D that they analyzed the player and what theyre doing is allowed. I guess botting is now legal!
Do you think thier OTA changes help determined what goes in the cache? Like, it'd be best if all these crap cards got buffed when they're put in the spotlight.
Season pass need to give S3 cards and conquest S4. It’s a struggle for a new player to get collection if every week they release a new card and I barely can get a new S3 card from collection level. Not even talking about the 6k token threshold
So im a newish player who has managed to snag a ton of keys and has 0 of the cards in these caches. I am guessing that in terms of “how often these cards have been in the spotlight” that doesnt really apply to me, and i should be more concerned with how good the card is. I am 99% finished the discard and destroy decks and lack only corvus and x-23, so i assume these are no-brainers given their power level??
So honestly June seems like a weak month besides season pass and maybe Thena. But then July will be a great month so I think saving resources this month is the smartest thing to do. Btw I expect Hercules to be buffed soon to make him desirable for more players.

Now as an F2P, I don't want to spend keys on makkari and x23 just for the chance of gladiator, I hate makkari, and already have a spotlight variant of x23. I'll be getting phastos though. July seems fun
Thank you Alex for the video and also calling out the negatives of what the developers are doing to the players with regards to our resources
Darkhawk is series 4
Nevertheless, great video alex
It's funny how he makes a comment about him being perpetually series 5 despite him dropping quite a while ago lol.
Yeah I don't know why I got this mixed up lol
I am no way near collection complete but I have most of theee spotlight cards. That to me says this is a bad month. Seeing all the common spotlight card X-23 and Nebula seem to be in one cache a month
The Spotlight Cache system in general can use an update. I've been kicking around this idea in my head for a while:
S4/5 draw - if you pull something you don't own should give you 1/2 value of tokens (S5=3K tokens, S4=1.5K. At minimum make it 2K/1K.)
For the other cards if you draw a card you own, instead of automatically giving you the variant give you the choice between the variant or a nominal value in tokens (500 Tokens).
Good Luck !
That David Nakayama's Spider Ham will release on 25-06-2024. So you must be thinking about another variant
But this Month im not going to be collection complete anymore
Thena > Tokens
Sersi > Skip
Makari > Skip
Phastos > caches
Arishem > Tokens
I was collection complete until last month. I didn’t get Valentina and I don’t regret it. Once I overcame FOMO I realized that I didn’t need to spend so much time on a game that doesn’t feel rewarding. I’m going to wait to see what their IGN announcement is. If it doesn’t include an overhaul to the collection and reward system(character mastery cough cough) then I will no longer support the game with an automatic season pass each month.
YOU'RE SKIPPING SERSI?
I've been saving my keys for Phastos and especially Arishem! Arishem giving free energy AND random cards that I like playing with and adapting to sounds AWESOME! But Phastos giving reduced cost OR extra power to every card sounds amazing too! This month has great new cards so I've been saving my keys and trying to get 4 more for over a month!
Pulled the last 3 spotlight cards on my first attempt, the RNG gods are smiling up one me.
Thx for calling out second dinner. Really respect it, and got my sub.
Looks like Hydra Bob has changed in the last patch - he’s now a 1/4 that moves each turn if a player has snapped. Pretty interesting card now, maybe even more so than before.
Modok is irreplaceable in Hela and reliable discard. It is probably one of the most important cards to be in spotlight weeks with new players as it opens up great archtypes
so excited to get corvus and proxima and built a dope discard deck
As someone with 15 keys and over 10,000 Tokens, while pretty much having all good cards in the game there is only about 3 new cards I want from this season and next. Which is certainly not a bad thing been able to save up even more resources but at this point grind for progression has ended for me, and I struggle to find that grip to keep me playing.
Still gonna because I don't want to fall behind but all I can say is I hope that announcement is truly something good.
I really want sersi because i like the idea of brood into sersi which is essentially playing 3 4* cards and 1 5* card for 8 power
I'm only using my keys on the weeks where I'm missing 2 cards. Worst case scenario I spend 4 keys and get 2 new cards, best case scenario I use 2 keys and get 2 cards (this week I got Thena and GrandMaster for example)
I figured the “hype” you’re anticipating in July is the new Deadpool movie being a hit (hence the pass theme too and the spotlight cards).
Lol
Think Hercules will get buffed? They do seem to buff stuff as it comes into the Spotlight...
God knows they need to buff him. In terms of playability, he is easily in the bottom five in the entire game. I love pure Move decks and Mobster Move. He is way too clunky at that cost to play in either.
no they don't
Hercules sounds great and I've been wanting to get him! He seems great to enhance move decks and just give an extra bonus for free, or he could be used on the opposite and used with Kingpin so if an opponent doesn't move in the right lane, Hercules can do that job by pushing them again! I just also really like movement decks haha
While art is subjective you can tell when more effort has been put into it or has flashier qualities to it, which spotlight variants should have.
Ngl the moment my keys fail me Im also out and just come back if the card acq gets better if thats even possible
I may not even get the season pass card this month, I’m certainly not using my keys, June is absolutely trash, but I guess that fits with The Eternals as a film too
Oh trust me I’m pisser about the modok and Gladiator switch
That c nova week looking really good for me, I don't have a single one of those cards
Arishem is a new Archetype so hell yeah want him
I got Hercules, when i was trying to get Werewolf by night. He hasnt been used once
This month, I'm only gonna go hard for Arishem, as it is so distinct in its playstyle. The rest, either a skip or spend a single key at most.
Cassandra Nova against Arishem is going to be juicy
Thanks for the video and the information.
I will get Arishem, and by that time I will also have Herc, already have Swan variants , sure , but I will get Arishem. ✊
I would not be surprised they buff Hercules before that spotlight week drops
I’ll take the Hercules lmao. Just because I need his base card to get the Dan Hipp variant to complete the “move your Hipps” album 😂.
I'll go all in during the Corvus week haha. So sad that I skipped him.
Was looking forward to Hydra Bob because I’d finally get Galactus too (just to have him and never use him). But the datamines show that Bob was changed and now he seems pretty bad so that’s another skip.
in my case i'm defiantly gonna spend those 6k tokens for Arishem, no way i'm rolling for that trash week
I would like Thena but I'm not giving up potentially 4 keys to get her. I'm pissed they moved Gladiator to be with Makkari as well.
I have every X-23 variant. I can't stop now.
Edit:
Funnily enough, we always joke about Knull having so many spotlight variants, but X-23 actually has the most. By an extra 1. 🤣
I still don't have x23 😢 saving my keys
I can skip Thena, Sersi is also a skip lol so I'll be saving up keys for a while
The spotlight cache rotation has been terrible for the last couple months. Shouldn't every card in the cache be desirable?
Great video and agree with it, guess I’ll be saving my keys for a while 😂
I've got 8 keys and just haven't had any caches that have felt worth opening for a while I dunno what would change my mind though
I didn’t mind the variety of GM or mODOK. So I spent one key. Got Athena
Thank you for doing these videos.
Wow they switched gladiator I was definitely gonna get him this week
What do you mean they swapped him? It’s showing as a series 4 in my game (I own him) and its listed in the patch notes
@theartfulrogers he was supposed to be in the spotlight this week but they moved him til later this month
Im going all in for spotlights in week 4, 5 and 9 but maybe I'll skip week 5 and get Arishem for tokens, idk... Sersi is tempting for tokens too.
Arishem seems like a must and surfer is a top 3 deck for me so phastos seems like a no brainer, then big save for July
also 100% going for the Ajax week for that beautiful beta ray variant
It doesn’t matter much matter, but the first Grand Master card shown is his furst spotlight variant and not his base card.
Call them out Alex!!!!! Never change man!!!
*Gladiator’s not dropping now?*
Just read this in the comments. It’s listed in the patch notes they released today. What’s changed?
Yesterday i reported one proving ground bot and today i got a response from 2D that they analyzed the player and what theyre doing is allowed. I guess botting is now legal!
What's a proving ground bot do exactly?
@@INMATEofARKHAM play a deck heavy on priority and escapes while turn 3 is resolving to maximize boosters
Do you think thier OTA changes help determined what goes in the cache? Like, it'd be best if all these crap cards got buffed when they're put in the spotlight.
Arishem and blob combo oooo
Season pass need to give S3 cards and conquest S4. It’s a struggle for a new player to get collection if every week they release a new card and I barely can get a new S3 card from collection level. Not even talking about the 6k token threshold
Isnt darkhawk s4?
I’m saving a my tokens for Arishem for this exact reason.
Is arishem confirmed a big bad?? Will he always be 6k tokens. If so I’m just gonna token shop him.
So honestly June seems like a weak month besides season pass and maybe Thena. But then July will be a great month so I think saving resources this month is the smartest thing to do. Btw I expect Hercules to be buffed soon to make him desirable for more players.
I need to get that Phoenix variant 😍
Would Herc be better if he was a 4/9 or 4/10?
I can't wait to play a arishim (spelling?) Thanos Agatha deck
Luckily, I do not have Hercules and that Black Swan variant looks dope
I been getting burned in the spotlight cache lost 3 keys trying to get white widow ended up getting variants of cards I already have and tokens
I have tokens saved for arishem for this exact reason
