VCS3 - The Power Of The Darkside!

  • I thought I would do a slightly longer video with some VCS3 exploration. To add flavour I have used the Eventide H3000 "A Mixo Air" patch and some Eventide Black Hole reverb.... no they don't pay me LOL.
    I had the VCS3 outs patched into the Focusrite ComPounder just to keep the levels from distorting and it also adds some nice warmth to the sound.
    I really enjoy some of the sounds that came from this session. I always find it best not to plan an outcome but just go with a "I wonder what would happen". I hope you enjoy the sonics :D
    BTW If anyone is interested in a VCS3 sample pack let me know in the comments and if there is enough interest I will create one!

    i have the same 'kit' to build but could only get larger ghielmetti matrices - about 25x30 or so - should be interesting to see what other functions one might bring into the patching matrix!

    • @100ThingsIDo
      @100ThingsIDo  6 років тому +2

      Hey there , great to see another builder. My matrix is the 30x30. There quiet simply built if you tear them down and you can convert them into any size with a bit of work. I just made mine 20x20 to allow for extra functions and used the top cover to mask off the rest (check my building the VCS3 video). The best idea I have seen was from Alessandro Cortini, who uses the scope out on the back plugged into the line in.. It goes you access to a hidden Inverter circuit :D

      Sorry, I don't save or photograph my patches. I like it it be a fresh creation each time (slightly mad on my part maybe ) !! :D

    You should bring it down to MESS and do a comparison video

    • @100ThingsIDo
      @100ThingsIDo  7 років тому +1

      That could be interesting. From the ones I have played at MESS they are very close. Even to the level of things I thought I had done something wrong (like the crazy vicious Res and the mass of saturation giving almost FM sounds if you turn it to the osc's max). Still should do a direct compare :D

      I assume you mean tone based music :D ..If you connect a keyboard via CV to one of the inputs you can play notes :D

    Hello my friend can you do one with jarre type sounds

    • @100ThingsIDo
      @100ThingsIDo  7 років тому

      I'm pretty sure Jarre sounds on the VCS3 has already been done (if you check youtube i'm pretty sure there is a clip) :D

  • @GangiFilms
    @GangiFilms 6 років тому

    would you custom build to order?

    • @100ThingsIDo
      @100ThingsIDo  6 років тому

      Hi there, I possibly could but it would come out almost exactly the same price as the portabella @ wp.thesynthi.de. The amount of time to build a VCS3 is surprisingly massive and the pin matrix alone is around $600! :D

      yeah ive seen the original PCBs for sale on ebay. you bought those and built the synth?

    • @100ThingsIDo
      @100ThingsIDo  6 років тому

      Yep... Its a stunning amount of work to build one... everything is point to point wiring. I have a "How I built my VCS3" on the UA-cam channel if your interested! Its still not properly finished but works good enough to enjoy :D

    These sounds are so psychedelic. The way the tones get in and out of tune creates this confusing dissonance, and my brain can't decide between if this is music or a soundscape.
