My boy and I are at 3:22. Thanks for the GB, we are a huge part of the Chehalis Cam chat and local group. We have to watch a GB every night before bedtime or he won’t go. Thanks for the effort into these! You make our night a little easier
Many years ago growing up.. my brother who was 11 years older than me was taking me to see a movie at the IsIs theatre downtown Ft Worth. Well my brother wasn’t always the best role model but being his little sister I adored him and would do anything he asked me to. To get to the theatre we had to cross a ton of tracks.. and we also jumped on and off the trains. I was only about 9 years old then. Sure glad we lived through our dumb years!
That Searchlight signal in KC JCT was a subtle reminder that the lens in a searchlight is such to really point the beam into the cab so the engineer will not miss it. Thus, I got it and I appreciate you featuring it @ 7:45. I caught the dropped signal at 20:48 in Skykomish. Thank you.
I’m surprised nobody is talking about the two heavyweight coaches on flatcars. They’re from the Fillmore and Western, now going to the Everett Railroad in PA.
0:14 BNSF AC44C4M leading solo. This unit is a DC to AC unit like those on the NS, but has no special markings. I'm surprised by the amount of exhaust its putting out 2:54 Sperry car at Cordele 3:42 Amtrak 160 'Pepsi" leading the Coast Starlight 4:14 locos being added to a covered hopper train 8:00 Amtrak 40 and 130 with eight private cars! No Amtrak cars! (seen again at 22:54)This makes me want to see some of the private car owners buy their own P42s or even upgrade some old E units and F units for special trains like this 8:38 the two heavyweights on flatbeds passing Elkhart. I wonder where they are going? 10:18 BNSF H2 with a Leslie horn, CP red, two Ferromex units, and two BNSF H3 units 11:10 nice horn on that CP SD70ACu 11:40 NS 8114 and BNSF 5280 doubleheading 12:32 NS, CSX, UP, and BNSF in one lash-up 20:02 the two G&W dash 9s again 20:10 ALC42s 302 and 300 pulling the Empire Builder without a P42 24:40 train race in Wichita!
If only I had a nickel for every time a set of empty centerbeams got flipped over in a curve. Three mile long trains and yards building said trains in block/cuts format to follow “PSR” protocol instead of building them for actual safe running are the main culprits. The derailments on Horseshoe come to mind.
We amatures here know not to put a string of empty centerbeams in the middle of a heavy consist. Maybe someday the rail professionals will figure it out.
Hunter Harrison's PSR is a cancer to the modern railroad industry. Any time a Class I railroad implements PSR it is followed by accidents like that. All in the name of cutting costs, which PSR supposedly to create. The irony.
Pretty cool seeing the Amtrak pulling the private passenger cars. I've now seen the consist 3 different times on 2 different channels. First in Pennsylvania on the CSX Engineer's channel 'DJ's Trains' ( part of an full Amtrak Passenger Consist), then twice on VR in Virginia and Georgia, very cool!!
Djstrains channel mention a higher percentage of Derailments occur in the “Yard” and Not on a “Main Line”. String Line is a Common Reason when the trains are NOT built Correctly. Problem is the trains are Built so a String of cars can be easily dropped off in one (1) City and a Different String of cars is picked up in another City on to the Final Destination.
Then there’s the ETMS that runs the train in conjunction with PTC - once the train starts moving, the engineer just sits there and the train mostly runs itself.
Yeah, I watched his video too. I don't know how real life RR doing. But in Derail Valley (train simulator), when I build a long train with loaded and unloaded cars, I always build it like this (in Run8 format): EE==========loaded==========EE====empty=====. There are many sharp curves with steep slope in DV's terrain, and the longest train I ever build is over 100 cars, I never have empty flatbed derail on curve or switch. The mid-engines not only work as DPU for better grade handling, but also make half-way deliver or pick-ups much easier.
I work at a nearby grocery store in Ft. Worth and had a BNSF blue-shirt man in line today. I should have asked him what was new. He probably could have told me about this much earlier in the day!
WAMX 3511 looks to be an Ex Western Pacific GP35, you can see the spot on the nose where the Gyro Light was plus the rear light was the Ash Can Type till WP put twin sealed beams in. probably was WP 3011, WP was originally supposed to get GP30's but were discontinued so they got GP35's instead, that is probably why the WP GP 35's were 3001 to 3022. Then they numbered the GP40's in the 3501 to 3559 number range,
I wonder how hard it would be to have some kind of coupler that includes a universal joint, or some ball-bearing arrangement, such that when one car tips over, it does not cause the adjacent cars to tip. Sure, the immediately adjacent cars might be pulled off the track, but this would "firewall" the damage so it doesn't spread to other cars farther away from the derailed cars.
It's only April, but it's already a nightmare of a year for UP Public Service Relations. Also, if the "Revelstoke Bear" had a little one, then where's the cub?
Just like the one In KS not too long ago with yet again the empty center beams being the culprit. When are they gonna take a hint and maybe stick those in the rear? Would that prevent this? Who knows.
Empty centerbeams strike again. I think it's time the FRA or someone sets a rule for Empty centerbeam placement in trains before one involving hazmat happens or something.
The last thing this world needs is another rule or law. How about a little common sense instead? Gets to the root of most problems without the band aid
I see a lot of derailments with empty center beam cars twisted off tracks like horseshoe curve did a while back. Does light weight cars affect derailments especially on curves and yards?
Empty centre beam cars in the middle of a manifest taking a tight turn again. Same issue as the Santa Fe yard derail your camera caught. They are too light when unloaded and get pulled over.
Looks like the same wreck not long ago at santa fe junction. Maybe psr will realize "hey, let's not put lightweight, empty centerbeams in the middle of mile long consists"
The derailment looks like a string line derailment. Too many lightweight empty center beams in one place with too much weight behind them. And Nice double warbonnets after that. The Santa Fe warbonnet never gets old
Ahhh those empty center beams always get cought in the middle of the consist! Weight in front and rear push on em while slowing and the weight ahead kinda slacks a bit causing tension on the center beams to the cars behind em.. That audio clip sounds like it hurt..

Empty center beams..

@Kara Faunt..

Centerbeams, big surprise!
Oh my , bears done with hibernation...
Great catches...

It's amazing watching the two old coaches on the flat cars travel across the country from California to Indiana so far.

Engineers are very good any more either. Pushing it to Run 8 then waiting for the air hoses to break is not train handling.

Yikes! That’s probably why some of the trains on the Austin subdivision can’t move passed Fort Worth.
What was the "passenger" train at Ashland, VA - appeared to have Amtrak motive power and a hodge podge of clean antique passenger cars.

Imagine that! Center beam flats involved in a derailment again.
Another fine example of PSR
Nice race at Belleview! (Ups, I mean Wichita ;-)).
It is always empty center Beames that will tip over. great grab bag
Centerbeam cars again because of the derailments. Are the being streamlined which causing them go on the ground?

You're talking about rotary couplers, which have been common on coal cars for decades.
