The C&C 27 mk V was passed to windward. You can see it crossing behind the stern of the C&C 29 mkII at the 13:20 minute mark. The 29 mkII is faster than the 27 mkV. They're both great handling boats and very well constructed.
Awesome sailing! I watch these trans oceanic sailing channels and they're always broad reaching if not going straight downhill. Seeing you jamming close hauled is more like it! I grew up sailing on the finger lakes and lake ontario and we'd leave from the cottage, you upwind for a while, then come screaming home. I have a question, in the foreground there's block and tackle coming from the corners going up to the mast. Pretty sure that's the backstays. I need to learn more about fractional rigs and back stay adjustments etc. Anyhow...that was a great video, thank you so much!
The block and tackle that you referred to is the backstay adjuster. The C&C 29-2 has a split backstay that is tensioned by the adjuster. It's a masthead rig but the mast can still be bent to flatten the main. It also has a very powerful baby stay adjuster. That, in conjunction with the backstay adjuster can easily bend the mast. Glad you enjoyed the ride!
Couldn't help but notice that you're sheeting the jib from the inboard tracks. My MKII did not have them installed but I would like to get a set to help my uphill point. Any tips?
The inboard genoa tracks really help the C&C 29-2 point higher than the standard track location. Very helpful if you race or just like to get to your destination a bit quicker. I recently sold my boat but have an enormous amount of hardware, self tailing winches, autopilot, spinnaker pole and many like new sails available for sale. I have the original inboard genoa tracks and cars available also. If you have any interest or need something specific for your 29, send me an e-mail at replusted@aol.com. I may have exactly what you need. My wife thought I was planning to build another boat in our basement with all the extra parts that are in storage. LOL
I was sailing the Ketch Rig. Even if I had all sails up, both of those C&Cs would still have blown by me.

Hi Jack:
Say what? Were you in one of these boats?
Looks like off Oakdale with a S, SE wind?
How do you keep yourself from talking like a pirate the whole time?
