Here I am, room spinning before Christmas, this video has been so helpful! How many days should we do these exercises for? Can vertigo maneuvers be done as prevention? Thanks very much.

I’m sorry to hear you had to deal with that today, but I’m really glad the video helped! As for your question, there’s only one study I’m aware of regarding whether doing repositioning maneuvers can prevent BPPV from recurring, and it was inconclusive. My personal experience suggests it might help with certain variants, but the evidence isn’t definitive yet.
What I typically recommend to my patients is to perform the maneuver at home once in the morning and once at night if you’re feeling pre-spin sensations. Continue this until you’ve been completely symptom-free for five consecutive days. Keep in mind that the maneuvers should resolve BPPV within a few attempts. If they’re not working, it might indicate something else is going on, and further evaluation is needed.
Always make sure to consult with your doctor about your symptoms and treatment to ensure you’re on the right track.

@@susanlazore56 Which maneuver worked for you? Was it the Home Epley, the Gufoni Maneuver, or the Barbecue Roll?

@@thedizzybusypt This has been one of my worse episodes, incapacitating me initially for almost 48 hours and happening on BOTH sides. Purely out of curiosity, I had asked my son to observe my eyeball movement and he said it was back and forth. Currently I am feeling nauseous, with pre-spins and anxiety over full blown vertigo returning. You are the only person that has explained these sensations, and as well as eyeball movement for pinpointing effectiveness strategy.
I had never perfected Epley and found it complicated, so I'd been trying Brandt Daroff and Somersault. But after following your Gufoni, which I've never heard of (nor the BBQ) I'm feeling better, so I will continue as you've recommended.
I've been messing around with Artificial Intelligence lately so I phoned ChatGPT to ask how to do the Somersault. It said something, like, kneel on hands and knees, tilt your head back, and do a somersault! Hahahaha, I started laughing and it responded, "Yes, it does sound like gymnastics!" Obviously, AI has a ways to go in some areas. Nothing like a real human being when you need one!!
Your personal experience, demonstrations, and research, far surpasses anything my doctor has been able to tell me. I love doing physical therapy in bed! There's no way I could drive, or even walk into any treatment center. Thank you so much.

I tried all of the things you suggested here. A quick question: I have both occipital neuralgia and osteoarthritis in my neck. I rolled over 4 nights ago, and heard/felt a pop in my neck. From that moment, I have had severe vertigo. I've tried all the inner-ear movements, but nothing is working. Could it be my neck instead of my ear? I've been doing a lot of work at my computer over the holidays, and my posture is terrible. I just need relief.

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re feeling miserable and not finding relief! Here are some thoughts that might help:
      1. Seek Medical Attention: It’s important to see a healthcare provider as soon as possible to evaluate your symptoms.
      2. When to Treat It as an Emergency: If by “severe vertigo” you mean an intense, constant spinning sensation that began right after feeling a pop in your neck, this could be a serious concern. While rare, certain strokes can occur in people with underlying neck issues. This should be evaluated immediately.
      3. Document Your Symptoms: I often recommend that people experiencing spinning record a video of their eye movements during the episodes. This can help your provider better understand the cause of the dizziness.
      4. Look for Red Flags: Symptoms such as numbness, tingling, slurred speech, sudden weakness, drop attacks, double vision, difficulty swallowing, confusion, or other neurological signs should prompt you to seek emergency care right away. Even without these symptoms, persistent spinning still requires medical attention to rule out serious conditions.
      5. Cervicogenic Dizziness: We do see many cases of dizziness originating from the neck, but that type of dizziness is usually described as a feeling of being foggy, off-balance, or having pressure, rather than true spinning. These cases often respond well to neck therapy, but it’s essential to confirm the diagnosis first.
I wish I could provide more specific guidance, but diagnosing and treating dizziness requires a thorough medical history and physical exam. My videos are meant to provide general information, not individual medical advice. I hope this helps point you in the right direction, and I truly hope you find relief soon!

@thedizzybusypt thank you for responding so quickly! I appreciate you care and empathy. ❤️ Going to the doctor is a bit rough. I'm in a foreign country at the moment and dont speak the language well enough to explain anything to doctors here. But maybe it will go away on its own. Im sure it's exacerbated by stress.

@@mckenzieallen7436 you are extremely kind. If you hold still and don't move, does the spinning stop? How long does it last?

@@thedizzybusypt yes, the spinning stops if i hold still, but the nausea and the pressure on the back of my head is still there. Ive tried both heat and ice, and while they lessen the pain, they dont fix the problem. Ive tried with contacts in or out. No change. The intense spinning, where the room looks like and feels like it is moving lasts anywhere between 5-20 seconds if I move. Both side and on my back. I also find it happens when i look up or down.
