Yelawolf revealed details about his music journey including getting dropped from Columbia Records before his debut album was released. The label, led by Rick Rubin at the time, dropped several artists, but Yelawolf remains unsure of the motivations behind his release. He returned to Gadsden, broke, but managed to make the cover of Ozone magazine and produced the mixtape "The Ballad of Slick Ricky Bobby." His eventual break came from collaborations with DJ Ideal to create "Stereo," a tribute to classic rock, and the creation of award-nominated work which led to him becoming an artist with Interscope and Shady Records. Yelawolf later admitted to building a reputation as the go-to artist for rock hooks, featuring in tracks with Slim Thug, Juelz Santana, and Big Boi before insisting he got the opportunity to rap, leading to a shift in perceptions of his talent. - Розваги

I was over at Columbia in 2008 when they just signed Sonny moore (Skrillex) Nobody in the building believed in him and he was shortly dropped. A year or two later he dropped scary monsters (which he played for everyone before he was dropped) and blew up.

Life is all about timing. Yelawolf career breakthrough was at wrong time for his music. It was an era where so many white hip hop fans were so depressed and was attracted to emo/ hip hop genre; mackelmore and logic was overshadowing yelawolf. I feel kinda bad for him considering what he could have become. He could have been a superstar. Timing is everything in life.
He created the lane for all these other white rappers to be able to blow up. I agree that he would have been a superstar if the timing was right .

He built his house with bricks. Those other rappers fell off overtime while Yela kept stacking. Almost 20 years I've bumped his tunes. I feel like he's definitely underrated, but he's a Superstar.

Yela would not have paved the way or likely even had a chance if Em didn’t come out like that. I didn't know that history with Rick Ruben, back when Wm was fuckin with him, I always thought Shady should put Yela on a Rick Rubin Track. Still wouldn't be mad at it. I like the tracks he did with Em, those type of tracks like "Bezerk" and "Heat" would totally work with Yela.
