    Very compelling and well thought out. As a Lokean myself I see a lot of pagans (and especially what I would call "fundamentalist" heathens) that try to paint that black/white, good/evil dichotomy on Loki, Jormungandr and other liminal beings, and I knew from my experience how far that thinking is from hitting the mark, but never had the words to explain. Ironically, as a former christian, I had the same blind spot towards members of the pagan community that identified themselves has Luciferian or Satanists - you've given me new insights into my own gods, as well as the twightlight gods of other frameworks. Thank you!

    • @ArithHärger

      Yes Dualism is indeed a problem deeply rooted in our collective consciousness, and when we come from Dualistic religious backgrounds we have the tendency to bring that line of thought into pagan spiritualities and religions.

    • @jackjohnson2309
      @jackjohnson2309 4 роки тому +4

      Nocturne Red yea and no. I’m Luciferian, and Heathen, and many other things. Some Satanists and Luciferians also follow pagan paths, some don’t. Depends on the individual’s interpretation of various ideas and ideals.

    • @nocturnered281
      @nocturnered281 4 роки тому +2

      @@jackjohnson2309 i heard about different "churches" of satanists and luciferians, but isnt they work with character from avraamic religion, so in my eyes its cant be together. Im myself not satanist nor heathen at that moment, just want to know more about alternatives

    • @jackjohnson2309
      @jackjohnson2309 4 роки тому +5

      Nocturne Red again, that would depend greatly upon the individual. Most Luciferians don’t “worship” Lucifer, or even view the Christian model of Lucifer as “real”. Lucifer is used more as a symbol of enlightenment, and freedom, similar to Prometheus in Greek mythology. Lucifer is essentially symbolic of the pinnacle of what man can be, very closely tied to the ideas of gnosis and apotheosis, or enlightenment in general. Satan is a bit different. Many are “atheistic Satanists”, who similarly don’t actually believe in the literal entity of Satan, but rather as a symbol of adversarial might, human carnal nature, etc. and those philosophies are perfectly compatible with most pagan traditions.
      There are, however, “theistic” Satanists and Luciferians who literally worship those figures in one way or another, and view them in more or less the same way as Christians would, as literal deities who represent “The Devil” of Christian mythology. These folks aren’t likely going to be pagan in addition to Satanist or Luciferian.

    I have always felt drawn to the Goddess Hel, sometimes I feel her calling to me, it’s not to die or anything like that, It’s a fellowship, it’s like she wants a relationship, I died 6 times as a infant. I kept thinking I need to follow someone like everyone else like Odin, Thor, Tyr etc. After watching this I feel it’s ok to have communion with the Goddess Hel. I feel this is the right path for me.

      THank you! Oh yes that would be an interesting subject to talk about. Sometimes I speak about certain germanic tribes as you will see in my upcoming videos. I do find the germanic sources very important for a variety of reasons, one of which is the fact that the germanic cults spread to Scandinavia and changed the entire religious background and brought new gods. Continental Germanic paganism in many aspects is the roots of Norse paganism.

    This is one of the best videos i have ever watched on youtube (and that includes cats being scared by cucumbers)
    But seriously, what a great insight you have, and were able to share
    Im afraid if i start to write exactly why or how this video touched me, i may still be writing a year from now, but so much of it made so much sense, some of it didnt, and some of it i disagree, but thats fine, and to be fair, thats how we *should* react to most videos about serious things like this
    Im months behind the release dates of thes, so i dont expect an answer, but if you can give one, thank you
    What did you study? what books did you read? To gain such insight and understanding, because i want to read and study these things too. It is great having you teach me, but i would ike to get back to the source, so to speak, rather than just become a cultist of Arith :)

    Well done !! Wonderful videos, much appreciated ! There are certainly verre pervasive influences from the dominant philosophical and religious traditions of the modern day. I have seen this in, especially American Asatru.. I no longer refer to my practise as "Asatru".. just the old ways. Religion, is only one aspect of our ideas about reality, the world, universe, how we should conduct ourselves, how we should live. Much of the old ways are, have been with us.. as an expression of our true nature, never minding what religions are in the high seat. The old ways to me start with my parents, and the threads continue to go back from there, eventually arriving at the Viking times, and , long before. ALU **

    I'm so glad you said that.
    Sometimes its rather terrifying what other people see norse paganism through the lense of christianity without real understanding. Its terrifying because that lense steal ummm a lot of peace from them, it start those small "christian wars" within pagan society. Which I found wrong and sad. Its not the way it should be (in my opinion)

I'm not even sure if they exist because I've tried to find and I just can't find a single book about it. My knowledge of Rokkatru comes from personal contact with people who have this spiritual path and that's about it, that's why this video is much more my own interpretation rather than supported by a more academic resource, because in academic there's nothing concening this because it's a contemporaneous spirituality and we sill haven't religious studies about it.

    Thank you for this videa - I am truly amazed!
    I must admit that some of my perspectives have been shaken a bit by what you say here - but I had to ask myself at the same time, how new was it to me, frankly? When you talk about the possibility, that the Creator could be a rather negative deity, I was thinging of old Gnostic, who (either they were Christian or not) claimed pretty much the same - the Creator is a Demiurg, who blinds us and forces us to worship him and consider him to be the only true God.
    Nevertheless, it seems very hard to me to stop viewing Odin as Alfader - even though your reasons are very strong. But my relation to him is very strong, too, and I am not really sure that it is something bad. But I will be thinking about it a lot now.
    And is there still no book on this topic you would know of?
    Thanks a lot

    Good evening, I always learn interesting things from your comments. And I love how you do your posts.
    This post about life after death is interesting.
    But there are some points I would like to make, if I may.
    The afterlife is also placed in the Bible, Torah, Buddhist teachings, Goddess Shiva of Hinduism and some philosophies like Yin-Yang, day and night, black and white, as well as on earth as in the sky, etc. Could this not be linked to our cycle of reincarnation? The question remains to ponder.
    Another question is which God would create something and then destroy it? If God is perfection, what is this God who creates and destroys? Wouldn't that be a contradiction? Only man or another entity does this kind of thing. Build something, but not being to your liking destroys it to rebuild it. In my opinion, if I may. These "Gods" are not real Gods but someone or something posing as God (Anunnaki), destroying a failed creation.

    How does oneself truly disconnect from so very basic fundamental elements that define the large monotheistic religions? Abrahamic faiths have all grown more friendly with each other (on a larger scale in peaceful and prosperous nations) and thusly even those that try to be neutral between them still end up accepting their fundamental ideas as a norm.
    By fundamental I mean:
    having a religious main text or doctrine
    some sort of organization or community
    having an afterlife centered believe
    having a concept of something akin to sin and good deeds
    How can people raised and developing in even less religious societies that still feature this themes and ideas constantly truly disconnect from them? Or if they can not does this mena such people can never really become "pagans" or "heathens" and the like and at best can hope to be some form of polytheists or henotheists?

    One of the things I'm very curious about is the fact Odin is referred to as a Wanderer. The original meaning of the word planet was Wanderer and included the Sun as well as the Moon. Is there any pre-christian evidence that the Norse Gods were connected to specific planets? 🤔

    I'm on board with all of this except for giving any glory (or even excess of thought or attention) to Loki. A pre-Christian Odin has all of the cleverness attributed to Loki, except that he does it all one better in that he actually accomplishes the goals he seeks to fulfill. Whereas Loki just does stuff without any plan or recognition of what result may come to be. The "chaos" of a forest fire does provide for new life and growth, but Loki doesn't pay attention to or in any way care about what follows from his "chaos." And all of the benefits that do come about because of him are purely accidental.
    Just one example is Mjollnir: Loki never stipulated the dwarves should create a weapon, or a hammer, or even a gift specifically for Thor. And Loki didn't provide Thor with the gift of Mjolnir, the dwarves did. And through all of the final three gifts, Loki persisted in trying to ruin each and every one of them. How great might Mjolnir have been if its handle were as long as was intended? We'll never know.
    Did he intend to get pregnant and birth Sleipnir? We don't know. But we do know that he didn't give Sleipnir to Odin, One-Eye claimed the horse, seeing the benefits of the steed. And we don't hear Loki complaining about it, so he obviously doesn't possess Odin's insight into magical horses, even after having been one for a good long time. Loki never seems to learn anything from his actions and their results.
    Every "follower" of Loki I've ever met was little more than a wannabe EDGELORD!!! with a hard on for the character provided to us by Snorri the Christian. That doesn't mean they all are, just that all of the ones I've met have been. And the majority of them couldn't name any deity outside the edda roll-call. They weren't interested in Rökkatru, they were just desperately trying to appear dangerous and cool. They call Loki sly, but he's entirely incapable of forseeing all of the trouble he causes for himself or in discerning the intrigues of other outsiders like Utgard-Loki. It would be extremely difficult to convince me that he's any more clever than Thor, and that nothing more than pure luck (by our modern meaning) pulls him through, which abandons him when he tries to air everyone's dirty laundry.
    Ultimately, I view Loki as an example of how one should not lead one's life. Not because he's evil, or because he's an agent of chaos. But because he's a bumbling fool. Even looking between the cracks of the tales involving him doesn't convince me he's got anything to offer that can't be gotten better from others.
    Does Odin claim names suggesting he's a king and father of everything? Or are those names given by others? I'll have to look into that. I haven't read anything in the nature of pre-Christian Odin that suggests he required everyone to do things his way, or that anyone needed to revere him. He seems to me to be a character who leads by example, and the majority of those examples are outside the notions of Christianized Norse society.
    Because it's obvious to me that Odin was more than willing to work in a "Satanic" manner to find what he's seeking. And all of the Thurses would agree that a great way to find the truth of a thing is to break it. The only way to break Ginnungagap would be to impose an order. I think it's quite likely that Odin was motivated in this way - rather than with a goal of becoming some shining god-king of order and light. And then when one is stuck on the shining god-king of order and light throne, what better way to free oneself than to get outcast by the very society one created so that one may wander and seek true knowledge once more.
    By my reckoning, using chaos for a purpose is "Satanic." Creating chaos for the sake of chaos is not.

    Where did you find a myth that His Majesty created the universe? I have found different myths about the birth of the universe, but not creation. Being (mostly) Hesiodic Chaos gave birth to the universe, which any mother would tell you is very different from intentional creation.

    • @ArithHärger
      @ArithHärger  6 років тому +3

      When I mean creation, I refer to the myths of creating the world and life in it, especially human life, although in the case of the Christian god and Yahweh, they are so powerful it seems that in certain accounts the universe was also create by them. The concept of universe for proto-historic abrahamic beliefs was quite limited, it's not the same concept of other cultures such as Hellenic, Norse, Celtic, Lusitania, Egyptian etc. which go beyond the realm our world is in. So that "universe" has limits in the ancient mind of midle-eastern cultures, unlike in Norse cosmology where Ginnungagap itself is an endless realm with no time where everything originally came from, and in that case it's not the creation of the universe by Odin. Odin as a creator god is strict to the mortal world and the creation of human kind, either with his two brothers or his two brothers are just 2 aspects of the same creator. That's what I meant.

    In polytheists/panetheist religions, there isn't any supreme deity. It's cos these religions were destroyed in the West, this concept crept in. Normally, anyone can have his OWN main deity, whom he'll place at the top. For him, this deity is absolute. But it's ONLY for him.
    Here in India, probably the only surviving ancient civilisations, there are countless different sects each having a high deity of it's own. Maybe that deity has no real significance in the myth, but for that sect, s/he is everything.
    The reason is simple: we are as individuals very different. Some maybe very loving and kind, some wrathful, some artistic, some introverted, some extroverted and so on. Each is supposed to choose an archetype deity (forces of nature, thought form, energy) based on his or her character trait. In fact the person doesn't even have to choose most of the time. Somehow the he'll get introduced to the deity if he's seeking honestly. This is why it's often said "the gods choose the seeker".
    Now the problem with monotheism, or a system that puts one deity on top, is that if a person doesn't really find THAT specific deity attractive, he will just ignore the entire system. Or he'll just have a superficial devotion which is mostly out of fear.
    Cos of Islamic and christian invasions this has crept into Indian general consciousness too. Unconsciously they're practicing these faiths. Only a few serious seeker truly understand.

      Elizabeth, I first began working with the Norse pantheon when, right before a series of grievous life-changing events, Loki made himself present to me. I, of course having heard bad things about him, was a little bit terrified. I faced up though, did a lot of research and asked him to make himself known, and I asked why he was reaching out to me. He did make himself known to me in a few ways, one being a dream where I saw him as both an adult and as a small child. He honestly came to me right when he knew I'd need my faith the most. He is a tough-love deity yes, but he is also amazing. He is funny, he uses humor and lightheartedness to teach you at times. He is a prankster that will watch you trip over you own foot if it means you learn something. He gives me the silent treatment at times because he knows I hate that. But he is loving, caring, ultimately stands beside you. He doesn't give direct lesson as much as he likes you to more or less "figure things out", he loves and protects children, outcasts, he shines his light on the darkness that consumes people. He forces change, because it is needed. Do not be afraid of him, he is often far from reckless. There is much to be learned from him and his kin. And if you have any question about him and/or his family I'll happily answer what I can!!

      @@chrisinreallife2022 I agree with this sentiment, Loki has helped me make immense improvements to myself and my life, sometimes he injects a little chaos into your life and watch stumble and fall but he also expects you to be strong enough to get back up and pull yourself together and in the end you're better off with that lesson the chaos was able to teach you and it makes you a much stronger person, you sometimes have to suffer a little to reach your full potential, nothing worthwhile in life is ever easy, if you're not strong and able to endure and learn from the chaotic aspects of the world you're doomed to fail in the end and you will probably end up getting destroyed by the chaos instead of working with it and using it as means to improve yourself, chaos is not bad and order is not good, it's all a balance, too much chaos and you fall and stumble over everything and can't hold anything together, too much order and you stagnate and rot begins to set in spiritually and mentally and you become like a robot, a slave to certain rigid ideas that has become stuck, then you need a little chaos to bring back the balance and Loki is great for that, he's probably the best life teacher i've had, yes he's tough and unforgiving at times but when you show your strength and get back up he will be ready for you with open arms because he is also very loving to those willing to greater lengths to become better and to learn.

      I am coming to a conclusion lately that Loki might be more apart of my life than ive realized. Although ive been very spiritual and pagan naturally since birth. Spending mostly my entire childhood outdoors, hearing my name blowing in the wind, pretending i was a wizard that commanded nature and such, but only now at age 40 decided to go down my ancestors path being almost entirely from germanic Scandinavian roots. Needless to say ive been on this "path" now for 2 months now and my life has totally changed in certain ways. But back to point with Loki, at work the other day i was like a dog chasing his own tail for 2 hr almost to point of panic until i had a realization. After that situation was normal then came the next realization, i called out to Loki and he responded back with a giggle.

    In Ásartú the existence (and its necessity) of Chaos is perfectelly accepted, the divine Order came from primordial Chaos. That means the Chaos isn't understood as "evil" or something similar, but neccesary in the cosmic cicles. However, it's totally unrecommendable to pray this chaotic forces or even more if you pray for Loki, the Supreme Lord of Chaos. The reason is because when you performance a blót, you are intechanging energy and power with the beings that you are offering. The food or the drink that you are offering is not the actual sacrifice, but a mean, a bridge between you and those beings. You actually are sacrificing you will and effort in order to support this beings and, in the same way, you receive something from them. When you performance a blót in honor to the Aesir or Vanir, you are giving your will and energy with the porpouse of support them in the fight against the chaotic forces, so you are contributing to the cosmic order. They also give you their blessing, is a "gift to gift" game. On the other hand, if you performance a blót in honor of the Jotnar or other wild spirits, you are supporting the chaos and you don't receive any gift from them, but a curse. Of course the Chaos and those beings are necessary in order to establish a ballance in the cosmic circle, but Do you really want to attrack chaos in your life instead of order?

      Arith Härger at the same time, the end of the current order will come with violence and death. Odin created his order out of murder and it is his murder that will end it. It is no wonder he frets so and gathers warriors. Saturn tried to devour the young too. It is a harsh reality to find out that order is kept through murder and war. All things will come to pass and the night happens before the dawn.

      Arith Härger I am a person who enjoys hiking and camping into the wilderness. It is strange how people are afraid of the wild, but when I go into the wild, I find peace and beauty, when I come back to human civilization, I see it is the human ways that are dangerous and are self destructive. I hope in our next civilization, we can live as richer beings, closer to nature and spirit.
      I really see both sides on this though. Humans are dependent on order. I think chaos and anarchy is temporary and not as pleasant as an anarchist might think they are. Maybe the order needs to be renewed from time to time. As your last video says, when the king gets old, it is his turn to be sacrificed.

    I do not agree 100% with every detail here. Though I highly agree with the direction in general.
    I would not go to the extent of separating the 2 concepts, Asatru and Rokkatru. Though I understand why you have. The way I look at it is Asatru as a religion is the introductory path to return to the deeper pagan traditions, ideas and so on. Many people will just stop at this 1st level. But some will seek more, ask questions and delve deeper, as clearly you have. Such is also my way. And I feel the "name" or "lable" we use is more or less irrelevant. Other than for the purpose of discussion with a pre agreed definition.
