  • Winnipeg Police Service Communications Division Named Public Safety Answering Point of the Year
Today, at the 82nd Annual APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) International Conference, the Winnipeg Police Communications Division, Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), was awarded the 2016 PSAP’s Finest Awards - PSAP of the Year award.
Sponsored by NICE Systems, PSAPs’ Finest Awards is an annual global recognition program for emergency communications professionals now in its eleventh year. Awards are presented annually in a number of categories. New for 2016 is the addition of an award for PSAP of the Year.
The winner was selected by an independent judging panel of Public Safety peers; evaluating each Service based on their exemplary achievements, knowledge, and years of commitment to public safety. This year the PSAPs’ Finest judging panel included representatives from a cross-section of the Public Safety industry, such as Commanding Officers and 9-1-1 Directors.
You can read more about the PSAPs’ Finest Awards Program and previous year’s winners by visiting their website at … finest.nice-fil...
As a PSAPs’ Finest award recipient the Service will receive a personalized PSAPs’ Finest plaque from NICE Systems. NICE will also be publishing a news feature announcing the award winners of the competition. The news feature will be disseminated to all of the leading Public Safety magazines.
The Winnipeg Police Service PSAP serves the City of Winnipeg, has 92 front line employees 10 administrative staff, and covers a population of 700,000 + citizens. In 2015 our PSAP handled a total of 255,139 911 calls and 188,889 non-emergency calls, as well as providing dispatch services for the Winnipeg Police Service.
While the award recognizes the good work of Division 36, we must recognize the significant contribution of many other units to their success, including ITSD, Radio Shop, Services and the HQ transition team.
The Winnipeg Police Service Communications Division is a trusted lifeline between members of the community and the public safety services they require. We are proud of the work they do on a day to day basis.
