    Jason, 4 for 4 here too! Your videos, presentations, information and professionalism is second to none. The topics and the instructional way that you present them, as well as the different camera angles and the production of the videos are off the charts as well. I have learned so much from all of your videos, even back to when you were just a skinny young guy with puffy hair. lol. I am very thankful to have you as a vicarious instructor, and you have helped me hone in my flying skills, situational awareness, risk management, ADM, and so much more, and I'll take all of your lessons and tips with me every time I fly. And as you know it, "a good pilot is always learning"!! thanks again Jason, your the best!

    4 4 4 hello again Jason, Energy management is the key for me. I was paranoid at an airport that I used to drop in for breakfast for here in Ontario Canada. The tree line with mature pines just east of the threshold was always intimidating. I’m glad to say now those fears have been overcome by certainly understanding your description of “ Energy management“ no longer do I have to land long and then backtrack to get back to the apron. Thanks For the videos and your tips also the production team . I enjoy doing Shortfields much more now and I believe the Cherokee does as well……!

    Blancolirio said to make every landing a precision landing. That advise is making me better Everytime I fly. Last summer I did my first off airport landing over a powerline and into a field. Picked a field that I knew was perfectly flat and had a go around option. Since then I've done some short field with no go around. Off airport landings are amazing but it's critical to develop short and soft field skills.

    Earned PPL flying out of Tucson Intl back in 1976 using C-150s with 40 degree flaps. SOP was to call your touchdown point for *each* landing to include a make-believe 50' tree ridge at end of approach. Excellent practice, also fun.
    Now retired and 73 years experienced, I'm seriously considering getting back in the sport. (Haven't told my wife yet.) I am thoroughly enjoying your video series.

    I learned at an airfield with just 400 metres of runway (1312 feet) with a forest not far from the runway (obstacle). I am so glad, I learned these techniques very early. Actually, I chose this airfield for this very reason. In fact, later I had difficulties landing on big runway because I was flaring too early and too high.
    You can find a video of my airfield and ,e explaining how to land in my list. Unfortunately, it is in German. But, you will get the idea…

    Airspeed and altitude is key to avoiding floating that you can’t afford. Do you do aerodynamic breaking on short field landing, or just soft field? How much do you have to why about yaw from left turning tendency when you release the brakes for a full power short field takeoff?

    Number 4 for me! Your speed was just a little too fast for a short field landing. It was a bunch of float. My approach on short field Landing is 5 kts above the bottom of the green arc. Then when I reduce power I have zero energy and I usually can do a roll out in less than 800 feet.

    Currently about to get my PPL, just went over short field landings with my CFI a couple of days ago, so once you clear your obstacle, you manage your power right until you touch down and get ready to flare? Where I’m messing up is I’m not keeping enough power in and flaring too high on this maneuver

  • @chuckmartin5773

    That "obstacle" seemed to be way out on approach? Is that typical for the checkride? If so, seems like you could just do a normal approach, just a little above glide slope? Honest question. Thanks

    My CFII told me that after touchdown I should retract the flaps for better braking, but is that really a must?

    • @bryant3483
      @bryant3483 2 роки тому +2

      Hello Henrique. As I gained more flight experience my instructor also informed me that retraction of the flaps upon landing was going to help a great deal in controlling the aircraft while on the ground, by doing so you place more weight of the aircraft on the wheels because of the decreased left from zero flaps . The instructor also advised me as the aircraft begins to slow down you can use full aft yoke input to create aerodynamic breaking.I practically do this all the time especially when I need to get off the active runway quickly it also saves much wear and tear on the brakes for the Older Cherokee I fly.

    • @riquelaboissiere
      @riquelaboissiere 2 роки тому

      @@bryant3483 Yes I understand how it might help, but my question is more about whether or not it would be a required action for the checkride.

    • @christophvz
      @christophvz 2 роки тому +1

      I doubt any DE would fail your check ride for that (they are not looking for perfection), but they might mention this to you during the debrief if retracting the flaps is specifically called out in the POH for your airplane (under Normal Operations > Short Field Landing). That’s the case for Cessna T182T for example.
