@@richardwarnercool1 I kinda should mention, that in regular dungeons we see only 4 enemies while developers' idea was there are a lot of small enemies and big ones are same numbers as ingame. We are not fighting 4 enemies, we actually fight a horde of them.
5 years late but one of the best things about the heir is that one of his skills drastically reduces the enemy's accuracy, so using him against the mob is a good tactic.
Thinking on it, there's a very, very grim thematic to the plague-doctor being good in this bossfight. Think about it - who else would be excellent at quelling a massive riot, than one who throws poisonous gas and horrible chemicals into the fray with wanton abandon?
It did say on the loading screen to show the peasants your more powerful and cruel then the friar, alongside the doctor, the hound master or abalest are military forces, policemen hound master and the ranged soldier, you can interpret them as police brutality used to quell riots.

The strategy to win this fights seems to be the same strategy to disperse most riots. Take out the leaders inciting violence and prevent the crowd from escalating in violence. Granted, police want to make sure that they aren't the target of the mob, but that's not an option here.
What is very clear is the symbolism between this fight and the Ancestor's deeds, as he too had the Hamlet rise up against him, and he as well used mercenaries in his employ to quell the riot. There's also a similarity between the Whisperer and the Prophet, although the Whisperer actually got the people to listen to him whereas the Prophet was ignored.
If the commoners are this strong, im starting to understand why the Ancestor hired those bandits to keep them in line. Hell, i would happily pay to have a brigand pounder aid me againts these upjumped peasants.

Riots can easily get out of hand and you see the mob throwing torches and also it looks like the background is lit up by the hamlet already burning. *This is exactly what the ancestor wanted to stop.* Religious zeal is a very dangerous thing if not tempered and if it goes this far then order must be restored, with violoence if diplomacy fails. Which he tried first btw.

Also, the whole place could have ended up burning to the ground, the ultimately preferable outcome if it meant stopping the ancestor. This does not change that riots are usually a bad idea and that religious fervour is extremely dangerous.
How so? Maybe you're right, I've only just finished playing it on the hardest difficulty. The lore is designed to be open to interpretation. Isn't the heir at least postponing the time of awakening? If he didn't answer the call, the God would have awakened?

@Александр Костров All of the heroes are there in the Hamlet to seek some sort of redemption (just look at their comcis, barks, trinkets - especially Crimson Court sets) and my understanding is that the physical death is one thing but to deprive them of a chance to win the personal struggle with their inner demons is the true kicker for the Heart to take full control. Also makes more sense for the lovecraftian-type horror story. What do you think Alex?
@Александр Костров The Heir's heritage is not only mansion and other physical "possesions" - there are also sins of his Ancestor, who cowardly escaped them by suicide. Egoism and corruption made him too weak to bear them any longer. I think that the Heir SHOULD have come to the Hamlet. After all it is possible to win, right? For the Heir it is a quest to restore the honor of the family since his Ancestor did lots of horrible things in the name personal gain. Therefore the Heir is a leader of Heroes both in a practical and spiritual sense. It's up to Player to show whether he prevails or fails.
I actually really like the idea of an uprising of the public of the hamlet, as the whole reason behind the brigade pounder being the only boss really tied to the regular people of the hamlet
@@ILyaCyclone I had my well quirked bounty hunter crit them killing them very early in the fight. I guess he performed an execution and the mob just ran away.
Hey there this Smarmy Mormon Jesus, I happy you liked the mod, I kinda had a minor heart attack when I found out this was for a contest. I had fun making this and it was a learning expirence to how the game works, but the real polish credit goes to An Real Bird and Slightly Startled Seal on fixing most of the bugs and putting up with my errors. Edit: also I did the maps I made a new one for the the find the friar one that isn't a horrible clusterfuck and is much natural and diffcult
I find it interesting because the game does try to make you hate this guy but in true Darkest Dungeon fashion he isn't what he seems... and what to you is a traitor, is in actuality a good person trying to stop unspeakable evil.
It's even better/worse than that. It shows another example of the circular nature of the story. The Mendicant Friar is to the Heir exactly what the Prophet was to the Ancestor. And in putting down the Friar and his followers, what have you turned your people into? The bandits that the Ancestor hired to quell the Hamlet uprising in the first place.

Despite the *BIG* bug that kind of screw everything on it XD Don't get me wrong, I love the mod and the way it make it, it is just that, those bugs can really put down the mod. I'm talking about: A) You need to start a new run if you want it to work, other wise you get in the bug where the second mission is never an option and then you basically get stuck. B) I hear from many people that, if you fail or don't do the quest right away (basically you do ignore it and do another dungeon), then the quest disappear and never return, a.k.a, you are stuck again....

I downloaded this mod without realizing it and just thought it was part of the crimson curse dlc. If that dosent speak to this mods quality I don't know what dose
I had the exact opposite take on defeating this boss, I brought a marking party and focused the rabble (completely ignoring the cleric and friar) in order to take them out before they ramped out of control. worked really well I won on turn 4 or 5.
i went for double leper, an exile(modded class) and a vestal. Pretty easy fight, its really more of a stat check fight than trying to play around the boss mechanics.

Totally. I also really love that they were able to come up with an enemy which feels like a growing army in this fight. Not something we've really seen to the best of my knowledge.
Remember, the heir can be defended by simply pointing out that before the people revolted from their relatively safe and decent lives, he did nothing to harm them. then comes this zonked out madman and makes them set their own homes on fire. like brah.
The fight just made me feel horrible, I spent the entire game gradually upgrading the hamlet and cleaning up the ancestor’s problems, and I felt that I had the innocent townsfolk’s interests at heart. Then, I end up having to brutalise and cull the people I am trying to protect, to defeat a man who all things considered, is probably completely justified in his actions against me. The whole thing just felt like the ancestor and the prophet, and the brigand pounder, except I murdered my villagers with chemical warfare instead of a big gun, to keep them in line.
This mod is amazing in conception and execution! I absolutely LOVE this art as well! I'd love that shield, no joke. Plus, the explanation and the edits, it's just *chefs kiss* Awesome job as always sir!
the friar probably aquired some insanity downstairs, bacause he begins this shit right after you save him. He didn't even bother to talk things through, ask the heir his opinion on things, something a paranoid/abusive dude would do
E5 You mentioned Friar has a ability similar to Vestal's Smite, but it is actually Vestal's Judgement, Smite is a Crusader Ability. Great video and Best regards!
I think this miniboss is expertly crafted! I also went into this blind, and was not disappointed. The boss fight itself was brutal, but doable. I used the composition of Bounty Hunter, Houndmaster, Man-at-Arms, and Musketeer. I know this team is missing a dedicated healer, but that wasn't too problematic for me, since I relied on guard skills and dodge tanking to absorb most of the incoming damage. This team also relied heavily on mark synergy, which allowed me to deal with the rabble before they could get too problematic. Once they were finished, the friar himself wasn't difficult to finish off. Overall, the fight is very challenging, but manageable with the proper team. And now that I know some more possible strategies, I can experiment a bit in the future. And as a last little note, wouldn't it be cool if mod bosses like this could appear in the Farmstead's endless harvest? I think that would be great.
This fight is like pick your poison: Do you want to target the mob so they don't get too strong but the cleric make it more annoying to kill the Frier or do you want to take out the cleric to make killing the Frier easier but at the risk of the mob get too strong and start killing your entire party
I actually managed to beat this fight with an odd team. Main Front: Hellion (Main purpose was to focus on the Rabble and chip away at it quickly) 2nd Slot: Abomination (Main DMG and Rabble focus) 3rd Slot: Houndmaster (Debuff Rabble & Guarding) Back Slot: Vestal (Healing and Rabble Stun) Group Lvl: Master
I think the best thing to come out of this mod is that candle trinket. It is one of the most useful trinkets to any class that forces guards by others and is incredibly useful in the Farmstead and Courtyard, since it loses its downside in those locations.
The sisters destroyed the front with crimson dance alternating spots with a shieldbreaker. I might be miss remembering from all my time with the falconer mod but im pretty sure after the cleric and mob died the friar fled the encounter, giving me the win. It might be a requirement for finding him again since you straight up killed him in the video but idk.
Seems like a pretty neat boss :o I'd probably use a Vestal, a Doc, a Highway man and a Bounty Hunter. Not the most tanky bunch but they have served me well but the mob would probably overwhelm them if I didn't finish them off quickly. Darn peasants ):L revolting against me, ME?! My soldiers will blight, bleed, and whip all those who try to take my precious Hamlet from me. I wonder what the trinkets do, I'm a hoarder trinkets and bobbles even if I don't use then they look cool in my chest of goodies (-w- I appreciate the video! That mod is neat, I love that body guard design with the shield having candles on it. Nice touch ;3
You dare to doubt the mighty pommel? Now being serious maybe the others are tripping over the body of the one guy who took the hit or his buddies are busy helping him back up.
Thankfully, the only issue I ran into was that the "Find the Friar" Ruins quest wasn't showing -- and as it turned out you just have to make sure you don't have a boss fight waiting in the ruins already. As soon as I cleared it the quest popped. :)
@@E5games Sorry for responding 2 times in a row, but the second quest I believe I miss it and now I can't do it....I think that is one of the bugs that it have.
@@E5games I just open my DD again and check, nope, no boss, only 2 champion missions and one 3 lv., again, it seem that there is a bug where if you ignore it, the quest is gone and can't be completed, I think the creature acknowledge the bug, but they say that it require a major change in the coding in order to fix it, so at the moment, no fix for it.
Well, I´m a bit late - it´s awesome they did this mod :) I wonder how DD2 will look like. The final boss mechanics is really interesting one and it would probably kill me in few fights xD
I really like this mods like this cuz of one thing - it matches to the original lore of the game. This is the reason that classes like Falconer, Snake charmer are my favourites. Talon brigands seems very realistic in DD’s theme, Ancestors letter to Snake Charmer’s master is really good idea to synergize with the lore, Seraph and the Sisters lore seems like its made by Red Hook and the actual HEIR of the estate as a playable hero. I wont even start talking about how well Catraphact, Werewolf, Fawn, Thrall, Lamia etc. fit into the theme of all the other classes. That theme is: Being an outcast, criminal, or someone that screwed something up and now has to seek redemption
Well I progressed this storyline up to the point where I have to fight the mini boss, so spoilers are not something I’m worried about as I am here to gather info on the boss fight.
for some reason I can't get over the rabble and this design in general, but the rabble with that fervent energy, the cleric's shining light (and candles on his shield!), and even the friar, old and tired and decrepit but still clearly trying his best to do the right thing these are the nobledark heroes we need unfortunately they are too good for us :

I've heard on many comments and reviews that this mod comes with many bugs and causes issues with the current build of the game since it hasn't been updated in a good while. I'm uncertain whether or not to use it now, which is sad because it looks like something I would just absolutely love >,
Ok guys, if you have The Slayer mod and this one... prepare for the most damage you have ever seen in a single unit. High risk high reward. Fourfold Harm Charm + Oppressor’s Trophy Thanks to the Opp’s ability to IGNORE PROT you are dealing a full 20-30 damage per attack with Biting Blade, and BFG ignores PROT dealing max damage against every boss. Make sure to get a good healer like Librarian to keep him alive... but god damn is he so damn strong.
So i just did it for the first time ever, and with modded classes. I composed my party as ultimate bleeder team, because i thought the bosses would be human, and luckly i was right lol. I had a revenant, a were wolf, the sisters, and the druid. the druid was mainly providing very useful heals over time, healing everyone off deathsdoor whenever necessary. I decided to kill the mob and then work my way to the back. so i spammed repost on the revenant and place huge bleeds on the mob together with the werewolf (also debuffing bleed resist). these 2 classes were meant to repost and bleed the mob, and the other bosses. Then i also had the druide to occasionally stun and place a mark the mob for the warior sister to crit at some point i had above 20 bleed on the mod lol. since i quickly realised i lacked backrow damage with this comp xD. Also the friar decided to not really heal the mob but only his guard, or attack my heroes. So guess thats why i could kill the mob with out to much trouble xD. it was a great vid, and interesting to learn your point of view. Will there be more minibosses like this, with the same quality?
On the estate I fought these guys in, I was running *only* religious characters. Without my flagellant raining pain on their backline, I'd have been toast even with my vestal and holy-lance crusader combo.
This begs the question as to what would the Friar do if the riot would have succeeded with him supposedly in charge of the Hamlet. In my opinion I think the Friar only seems to know the surface what happens at the Hamlet. He sees the evils of the various areas and makes the connection of the Heir and Ancestor being at fault for them. While entirely true the Heir is simply trying to mitigate the damage that is caused and while selfish, knows that this crusade will be costly and that there is no other option. The Friar seems to be the guy who thinks that with some hocus-pocus hope and faith the darkness can be pushed back, kind of like the generic anime MC who believes in the power of love and friendship. I for one if I have to choose I would side with the Heir, since they guy knows of the adversity and does what needs to be done in contrast to the Friar who thinks he knows what needs to be done. A long ramble and a stupid one. Please correct me if I get something or this entire thing wrong.
Except he doesn’t have hocus pocus and simple faith. He has actual power which he can literally smite you with. I believe he is actually trying to achieve the same end as the ancestor, to stop the darkest dungeon from winning. However he recognized that each heir inevitably becomes the ancestor and the cycle is a cycle of stagnating the eldritch god as opposed to truly defeating it. He rose up because he likley wanted to break that cycle and truly defeat the godling. Could he have killed it? Probably not it’s a gestating cosmic god. But unlike the heir and the ancestor who simply keep it gestating, he has the stones to not give into defeatism and try to win one for humanity.
Are you required to do each mission one after the other when they pop up? The reason I’m asking this is because none of my heroes are even close to being able to take this boss on. The highest level I am at is 3.
I installed the mod. checked it in the mod list, startet a new campaign, first some old man shows up and helps the hamlet, later the big guy gives me the quest to find the whisperer. The quest however never showed up on the quest map. and from there on I never heard of it again.
Hey Decimus, couple thoughts: Do you have any boss fights awaiting you in the Ruins or Weald? Do you have any other major mods as a part of your list (more than say modded classes)?
@@E5games well, a disctrict system overhaul and some trinket mods. other than that only class mods. And it is a fair while ago now but it may totally be possible that there were some bossfights there. why? what has an optional bossfight to do with it? I checked all the descriptions of the available quests that week and the whisperer was nowhere mentioned :(
I personally disagree with the immunities of the rabble. It is a whole army of people, how can one stun or push a group? Everything else in the fight is spot on though.
Thanks for the feedback! As you can imagine, I get a balance of requests to show more detail, less detail, cover trinkets, leave them for discovery, shorten the length of overviews, etc... and it's never easy to really know the right path. I think I've not really given trinkets enough focus in general, though... as they are an interesting and thoughtful addition to most of these mods. It's difficult with time restrictions due to not finding/owning the trinkets in game and thus not being able to really experiment with them, and they tend to be one of the things people tweak and change after publishing. In this case, the trinkets are really quite interesting and have some very powerful mechanics, and I do regret not showcasing the couple I had. :)

if you kill the peasants, the friar runs away and the cleric dies. same number and quality of drops, far as i can tell

If he runs away. Does he come back later or is that just the end of him. (except for when you encounter him later in dungeons)

i went for double leper, an exile(modded class) and a vestal. Pretty easy fight, its really more of a stat check fight than trying to play around the boss mechanics.

Totally. I also really love that they were able to come up with an enemy which feels like a growing army in this fight. Not something we've really seen to the best of my knowledge.
The last candle trinket is clearly OP, turning a Jester into an unstopable group healer, allowing an infinite Farmstead
Remember, the heir can be defended by simply pointing out that before the people revolted from their relatively safe and decent lives, he did nothing to harm them.

The fight just made me feel horrible, I spent the entire game gradually upgrading the hamlet and cleaning up the ancestor’s problems, and I felt that I had the innocent townsfolk’s interests at heart.
Then, I end up having to brutalise and cull the people I am trying to protect, to defeat a man who all things considered, is probably completely justified in his actions against me.
The whole thing just felt like the ancestor and the prophet, and the brigand pounder, except I murdered my villagers with chemical warfare instead of a big gun, to keep them in line.

I would love to see classes as mods or in DD2 that take up 2 spots in your party just like large enemys can

the friar probably aquired some insanity downstairs, bacause he begins this shit right after you save him. He didn't even bother to talk things through, ask the heir his opinion on things, something a paranoid/abusive dude would do
E5 You mentioned Friar has a ability similar to Vestal's Smite, but it is actually Vestal's Judgement, Smite is a Crusader Ability.

These are amazing.
I think this miniboss is expertly crafted! I also went into this blind, and was not disappointed.
The boss fight itself was brutal, but doable. I used the composition of Bounty Hunter, Houndmaster, Man-at-Arms, and Musketeer. I know this team is missing a dedicated healer, but that wasn't too problematic for me, since I relied on guard skills and dodge tanking to absorb most of the incoming damage. This team also relied heavily on mark synergy, which allowed me to deal with the rabble before they could get too problematic. Once they were finished, the friar himself wasn't difficult to finish off.
Overall, the fight is very challenging, but manageable with the proper team. And now that I know some more possible strategies, I can experiment a bit in the future.
And as a last little note, wouldn't it be cool if mod bosses like this could appear in the Farmstead's endless harvest? I think that would be great.
Hear ye! Hear ye! That NPC is my second favourite, after the Ancestor with the Sanitarium NPC close behind.
This fight is like pick your poison: Do you want to target the mob so they don't get too strong but the cleric make it more annoying to kill the Frier or do you want to take out the cleric to make killing the Frier easier but at the risk of the mob get too strong and start killing your entire party
I actually managed to beat this fight with an odd team.
Main Front: Hellion (Main purpose was to focus on the Rabble and chip away at it quickly)
2nd Slot: Abomination (Main DMG and Rabble focus)
3rd Slot: Houndmaster (Debuff Rabble & Guarding)
Back Slot: Vestal (Healing and Rabble Stun)
Group Lvl: Master
Could someone make the Cleric Skin into a Man at Arms skin, because it would just be perfect what with that shield and hammer!

I think the best thing to come out of this mod is that candle trinket. It is one of the most useful trinkets to any class that forces guards by others and is incredibly useful in the Farmstead and Courtyard, since it loses its downside in those locations.
The sisters destroyed the front with crimson dance alternating spots with a shieldbreaker. I might be miss remembering from all my time with the falconer mod but im pretty sure after the cleric and mob died the friar fled the encounter, giving me the win. It might be a requirement for finding him again since you straight up killed him in the video but idk.
If only we could we could be as grossly incandescent as him

I'd probably use a Vestal, a Doc, a Highway man and a Bounty Hunter. Not the most tanky bunch but they have served me well but the mob would probably overwhelm them if I didn't finish them off quickly.

It's a fun mod, if you can actually get it to work.
Thankfully, the only issue I ran into was that the "Find the Friar" Ruins quest wasn't showing -- and as it turned out you just have to make sure you don't have a boss fight waiting in the ruins already. As soon as I cleared it the quest popped. :)

@@E5games I just open my DD again and check, nope, no boss, only 2 champion missions and one 3 lv., again, it seem that there is a bug where if you ignore it, the quest is gone and can't be completed, I think the creature acknowledge the bug, but they say that it require a major change in the coding in order to fix it, so at the moment, no fix for it.

Well, I´m a bit late - it´s awesome they did this mod :) I wonder how DD2 will look like. The final boss mechanics is really interesting one and it would probably kill me in few fights xD
I really like this mods like this cuz of one thing - it matches to the original lore of the game. This is the reason that classes like Falconer, Snake charmer are my favourites.
Talon brigands seems very realistic in DD’s theme, Ancestors letter to Snake Charmer’s master is really good idea to synergize with the lore, Seraph and the Sisters lore seems like its made by Red Hook and the actual HEIR of the estate as a playable hero. I wont even start talking about how well Catraphact, Werewolf, Fawn, Thrall, Lamia etc. fit into the theme of all the other classes. That theme is: Being an outcast, criminal, or someone that screwed something up and now has to seek redemption
Well I progressed this storyline up to the point where I have to fight the mini boss, so spoilers are not something I’m worried about as I am here to gather info on the boss fight.
I ran into this guy as a randboss in endless mode.
Used Abom and SB to just splatter the mob - it’s killable if you do it fast and.
for some reason I can't get over the rabble
and this design in general, but the rabble with that fervent energy, the cleric's shining light (and candles on his shield!), and even the friar, old and tired and decrepit but still clearly trying his best to do the right thing

I've heard on many comments and reviews that this mod comes with many bugs and causes issues with the current build of the game since it hasn't been updated in a good while.
I'm uncertain whether or not to use it now, which is sad because it looks like something I would just absolutely love >,
I used it without experiencing any major bugs, just one fo the trinkets not dropping

A better challenge that would make this fight all the more thematic is by bringing the Rightful Heir along.
I just lost 3 heroes to this... Does the bodyguard ignore deathblow resist? None of my heroes survived the check
So i just did it for the first time ever, and with modded classes. I composed my party as ultimate bleeder team, because i thought the bosses would be human, and luckly i was right lol. I had a revenant, a were wolf, the sisters, and the druid. the druid was mainly providing very useful heals over time, healing everyone off deathsdoor whenever necessary. I decided to kill the mob and then work my way to the back. so i spammed repost on the revenant and place huge bleeds on the mob together with the werewolf (also debuffing bleed resist). these 2 classes were meant to repost and bleed the mob, and the other bosses. Then i also had the druide to occasionally stun and place a mark the mob for the warior sister to crit at some point i had above 20 bleed on the mod lol. since i quickly realised i lacked backrow damage with this comp xD. Also the friar decided to not really heal the mob but only his guard, or attack my heroes. So guess thats why i could kill the mob with out to much trouble xD.

On the estate I fought these guys in, I was running *only* religious characters. Without my flagellant raining pain on their backline, I'd have been toast even with my vestal and holy-lance crusader combo.

This is my favorate boss mod.
This begs the question as to what would the Friar do if the riot would have succeeded with him supposedly in charge of the Hamlet. In my opinion I think the Friar only seems to know the surface what happens at the Hamlet. He sees the evils of the various areas and makes the connection of the Heir and Ancestor being at fault for them. While entirely true the Heir is simply trying to mitigate the damage that is caused and while selfish, knows that this crusade will be costly and that there is no other option. The Friar seems to be the guy who thinks that with some hocus-pocus hope and faith the darkness can be pushed back, kind of like the generic anime MC who believes in the power of love and friendship. I for one if I have to choose I would side with the Heir, since they guy knows of the adversity and does what needs to be done in contrast to the Friar who thinks he knows what needs to be done.
A long ramble and a stupid one. Please correct me if I get something or this entire thing wrong.
Except he doesn’t have hocus pocus and simple faith. He has actual power which he can literally smite you with.
I believe he is actually trying to achieve the same end as the ancestor, to stop the darkest dungeon from winning. However he recognized that each heir inevitably becomes the ancestor and the cycle is a cycle of stagnating the eldritch god as opposed to truly defeating it. He rose up because he likley wanted to break that cycle and truly defeat the godling.
Could he have killed it? Probably not it’s a gestating cosmic god. But unlike the heir and the ancestor who simply keep it gestating, he has the stones to not give into defeatism and try to win one for humanity.

Question are mod class like Siren will be good on this fight. I am thinking she, shield breaker and doc will blight them all like an acid melt.

Are you required to do each mission one after the other when they pop up? The reason I’m asking this is because none of my heroes are even close to being able to take this boss on. The highest level I am at is 3.
The missions unlock in linear order, starting with an easy mission.
I installed the mod. checked it in the mod list, startet a new campaign, first some old man shows up and helps the hamlet, later the big guy gives me the quest to find the whisperer. The quest however never showed up on the quest map. and from there on I never heard of it again.
Hey Decimus, couple thoughts: Do you have any boss fights awaiting you in the Ruins or Weald? Do you have any other major mods as a part of your list (more than say modded classes)?
@@E5games well, a disctrict system overhaul and some trinket mods. other than that only class mods. And it is a fair while ago now but it may totally be possible that there were some bossfights there. why? what has an optional bossfight to do with it? I checked all the descriptions of the available quests that week and the whisperer was nowhere mentioned :(

Cataphract from S-Purple can assault the backline pretty well and pop up front for healing when necessary.

I personally disagree with the immunities of the rabble. It is a whole army of people, how can one stun or push a group? Everything else in the fight is spot on though.

Thanks for the feedback! As you can imagine, I get a balance of requests to show more detail, less detail, cover trinkets, leave them for discovery, shorten the length of overviews, etc... and it's never easy to really know the right path.
I think I've not really given trinkets enough focus in general, though... as they are an interesting and thoughtful addition to most of these mods. It's difficult with time restrictions due to not finding/owning the trinkets in game and thus not being able to really experiment with them, and they tend to be one of the things people tweak and change after publishing. In this case, the trinkets are really quite interesting and have some very powerful mechanics, and I do regret not showcasing the couple I had. :)
