Yuba River Spring 2022

- Hey youtube. Here is my latest video. It's a collection of a couple of days I spent on the Yuba river in March and April. I spent as much time, as possible, on the Yuba between January and April this year, trying to learn the river. It's an amazing fishery. I still need to explore much more and fish it through the different seasons. At the beginning of the year, I wasn't filming, I was concentrating on fishing. Later in the season, I wanted to get some footage. Unfortunately, I lost a lot a great footage, too lazy to strap on the Gopro, forgot to hit record, or I accidentally changed camera modes on the Gopro. I added some vocal overdubs, which are only in the right speaker. If you don't feel like listening, just remove the right head phone. Hopefully, I will get some more films out through the spring and summer. Let me know what you think. Be safe, stay healthy and enjoy.

Informative video for someone new to fly fishing and new to the area.
The Yuba is a local treasure. Great hatches and amazing fish. I hope you find your way there soon, after the flows drop.
The Lower Yuba can be tough most days, but when you are there at the right time, it can be spectacular! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment. You are correct. I have found that I may struggle in one area, but when I move, I may come across something special. I really want to float this river, but don't have a craft worthy yet.
Nice footage and good collections of fishing videos and clips, very nice water too.Tight lines, thumbs up and hello from New Zealand, Tony.
Enjoyed the video! Only fished the Yuba once and got skunked but got to see a big 'ol salmon spawning. Cool stuff!
i was up there last december, it’s always amazing to see active salmon.
Gotta throw the egg patterns behind em
Making it looks easy. From reports I've heard from others, many have been struggling down there.
Thanks Eric. The Yuba has definitely been hard to fish this year, although there are still some great opportunities. I am looking forward to venturing up north soon. Take care.
Really nice video!🙂 Did you get a chance to fish the Swkala hatch yet?
Thanks for the post and nice comment.
I haven't been up there since early December. I am planning on going up for a couple day next week, although the weather isn't looking good. I guess we will have to see how it develops.
Hey Flow. I love how the first couple times a big one got off you cut to flowers - like you're reminding yourself to stop and smell the roses 😊👍. Great vid!!
Anyway, it's super refreshing to have specifics on the river, location, set-up, etc. Thanks so much for that! If I may I ask: do you suggest up stream or down from the bridge? thanks again for the great video.
Hey old fart, i like the section up stream from the bridge. it’s a big river so it takes time working the water. I’m looking forward to moving out to some other larger water- lower feather and lower sac.
@@flowflyfishing2131 Thanks Flow. I'd like to explore the lower feather myself. How to you think the Lower Yuba will be fishing the next week or two.?
@@willbryant7895 - I heard it’s been fishing better lately, but i haven’t been up there since about a month. I also heard some caddis where coming off in the evening
@@flowflyfishing2131 Hi Flow. I have a question about access at the Yuba - can I DM you somehow?
@@patsheridan. Post your email to this chat thread, and I will send you an email, then delete your email, once I send the email you
The Yuba river is a very unique river that I have yet to figure out. I like your style. Awesome fishing and great video.
Thanks for the post. All I can say is keep fishing it, your persistence will pay off. Although, as soon as I think I got something figured out, it seems the river slaps me in my face and says, "try again". LOL
Nice videos Todd! I watched a bunch of them, they were well made and enjoyable. I had no idea you were such a serious fisherperson (?) either. Well, good luck I'll catch and release you later.
Right on Daryl. We should grab a coffee sometime. It would be great to catch up. I really enjoy the Pencilnecks video.
Nice collection of videos. That is a different part of the river than what I have been to. where are you gaining access to that part (if you're willing to share)?
Hi Docjoe, Thanks for the comment.
Thanks!
I forget the name of the business but it costs 1,000 a year to have access to all the gates. If you guide the Yuba its worth it. If not it isn't. You can access all the same water if you don't mind hooving it
@@Frankov81 I think the private property, fishing clube, access is more than a 1000 bucks for 9 months of access.
Love this video! Some days on the Lower Yuba are 🔥 and some days lessons in patience. Always beautiful though. Do you have an email, would love to pick your brain.
Hi Matt. Thanks for the kind words. Feel free to ask questions here. That way, others can see them.
@@flowflyfishing2131 thanks Flow. Curious if you have found a distinct steelhead season on the Lower Yuba? Just follow the salmon? Also, curious if you’ve chucked streamers on the lower Yuba? Also curious about upstream access points, mostly found private property above the bridge. Don’t want burn any spots though so understand your caution with putting it out there.
@@mattcervantes5470 Hi Matt. I haven't fished the Yuba enough to know about the steelhead. I like to go up there in around December for the egg bite. Also, if you are lucky, there can be a great BWO hatch in winter. I like fishing the Yuba in spring too. The only access I know is hiking up from the bridge. If you belong to a fly fishing club, you can rent the UC property ranch for the weekend - This is how I get access up there. Last time I was up there, early Dec, I got a couple fish swinging a black wooly bugger. The river was high and muddy.
@@flowflyfishing2131 thanks for the info! I’ll be fishing the L Yuba my second full year, always looking for more intel to make me a better fly fisher on the water. Appreciate your videos, see you on the water!
@@mattcervantes5470 - Sounds like you can give me some info, lol. Do you belong to a fly fishing club? It's a great way to get to fish that upper area. Keep in touch, and let me know how you are doing up there.
